PAT MCKINNEY WITHDRAWS FROM SC LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR’S RACE

Wealthy Lowcountry, S.C. developer Pat McKinney spent several months – and several hundred thousand dollars of his own money – running for lieutenant governor at the request of S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley.

It was all part of Haley’s effort to exact a measure of revenge against her nemesis Glenn McConnell – who inherited the lieutenant governor’s job in 2012 but wound up declining to run for reelection to the largely ceremonial, part-time post. McConnell and Haley sparred extensively during her first year as governor, and she wanted to do everything within her power to make his life miserable.

So she did …

Haley was also grooming McKinney to take her place in 2018 – and his campaign commercials (produced by Haley’s political consultant) repeatedly stressed his connections to the governor.

How’d the plan go?

Fairly well. McKinney finished in second place in this week’s “Republican” primary for lieutenant governor – with the results of an official recount expected to confirm his participation in a June 24 runoff election against former S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster.

And while McKinney would have had to overcome a big deficit to beat McMaster, most political analysts agree he had a “path to victory” against the intellectually challenged good ol’ boy.

McKinney ended any such speculation this week, though, by announcing his decision to exit the race.

“While we have likely received enough votes to be in the runoff, after much thoughtful prayer and consideration, I am withdrawing from consideration relative to the ongoing recount and will not participate in a runoff,” he said in an email to supporters. “Despite the emotional drain and grief over burying both my father and my wife’s father in the last eight weeks, we persevered because we felt so strongly about our message. Given all of these circumstances, I am ready to once again be a full time husband, father and grandfather.”

McKinney accompanied his statement with an official notice of withdrawal to the S.C. Election Commission (SCEC).

Hmmmmm …

McKinney’s announcement caught several key members of his own campaign – and several of his prominent political supporters – completely by surprise. That’s understandable, less than 24 hours after bowing out of the race his spokesman was telling reporters how excited he was to continue bringing his “message of change” to the people.

Well … a dwindling percentage of people, anyway.

“I was blindsided,” one of McKinney’s top staffers told FITS.

So … why did McKinney drop out? Is it really due to the “emotional drain” of losing family members? And the result of “thoughtful prayer?”

Of course not …

According to sources familiar with his decision, McKinney didn’t want to shell out anymore of his fortune on a race he didn’t think he could win.

“Nikki offered her endorsement but told him he would have to pay for the television time,” one of our sources says.

Another source says McKinney was told he would have to pay out of pocket for several hundred thousand dollars worth of negative ads against McMaster  (who is as vulnerable as he is dim).

In the end, McKinney dropped out of the race because the bill for all of those ads was too steep … and victory far from guaranteed.

As a result of McKinney’s decision, McMaster is now likely to face Mike Campbell – son of the late two-term Gov. Carroll Campbell – on June 24. While Campbell is expected to receive some significant family money in support of his bid, his “path to victory” against McMaster is much more difficult.

I figured you were an idiot reading your comment about Sellers winning the election, then you confirmed it… it’s “lose”, not “loose”. I have a hard time understanding how people can fuck up the use of those two words, kind of like “sell” and “sale”. I think it has something to do with people who have to mouth the words as they read them.

Separation of church and state…sound familiar?

Bible Thumper June 13, 2014 at 4:31 pm

Very.
“Luther’s doctrine of the two kingdoms marked the beginning of the modern conception of separation of church and state.” Wikipedia

It was a concept developed by Christians to protect Christian minorities from the government and extended mostly by Christians to protect all.

As written in Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802. In that letter, referencing the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, Jefferson writes: “Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.”

This was to protect the citizens not the government. This is one of the many gifts Christianity has given to the world. There were hints of it in the Roman world, but it was merely a practical policy not a human right.

euwe max June 13, 2014 at 7:49 pm

The religious views of Thomas Jefferson diverged widely from the orthodox Christianity of his day. Jefferson was most closely connected with Unitarianism and the religious philosophy of Christian deism. He certainly would not have passed the “baptism and indwelling of the Spirit” and “personal relationship with Jesus” requirements of the Pentecostals.

This is an open debate.
He attended church. He invoked God and scripture in his writing and speeches. By all worldly definitions he was a Christian. I don’t judge a man’s salvation. Personally, I believe only John 3:16 is required.

Since you and I are in this world everything else is speculations.

I identify with that statement.

euwe max June 14, 2014 at 9:33 am

Anyone may say they’re a Christian, but people who call Jesus a “philosopher” probably are in the back of the room. I don’t care where God chooses to place the line between “Christian” and “non-Christian”.. that’s His business, not mine… if He asks me, I’ll say everyone is a Christian, and if he goes along with it, that will be fine with me.

But, when you’re looking for a definition of Christian – even in a worldly sense – there’s no way you could include Jefferson in any formal way that couldn’t be stretched to include everyone.

Bible Thumper June 14, 2014 at 10:03 am

I often here liberals promoting a cause and then criticize Christians. They don’t realize the origins of there cause are often Christians or influenced by Christian thought. There were many influences for Jefferson’s ideas, but one the major ones was Christianity.
Japan is not Christian, but it’s democratic institutions were developed in Christiandom.
I am not debating Jefferson’s faith. I’m debating the influence of Christianity.

Bible Thumper June 13, 2014 at 8:12 pm

I have a non standard view of this. God made covenants with mankind or Israel though Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David. Man failed all of these covenants, but it was instructive. Paul calls the Law and the Prophets our tutor during our childhood. These covenants demonstrate failed ways to organize society and relationships with god.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 —-  For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

A welfare state involves compulsion. Does scripture I endorse compulsion?
ACTS 5
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power?

euwe max June 13, 2014 at 8:41 pm

I have a non standard view of this. God made covenants with mankind or Israel though Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David.

——-

No – he did not make covenants with mankind – his law was specifically for the Jews through Moses to inherit the promise he gave to Abraham. Only after Jesus opened the door for Gentiles was a new covenant available for all of mankind. It was not associated with the covenant of the Mosaic Law… since the promise was not to Gentiles, but exclusively to the seed of Abraham.

Paul made it pretty clear.

A welfare state involves compulsion. Does scripture I endorse compulsion?
——-
yes. Unless you discount the command of God as “compulsion”

——
Have you thought this out?

If God gives you a template for government, and Satan gives you a template for government.. is it Theocracy to vote for a law that agrees with God’s template more than Satan’s template?

If you’re going to *be* a Christian, and allow the Spirit of God to define your morality, what would prevent you from voting for a law that encapsulates mercy? Fairness? Would greed be an acceptable alternative to mercy – just to add balance? Maybe instead of arresting everyone for murder, we let a few go free so we don’t seem to be biased towards a Theocracy?

voluntary is not an option, you are required to give… even if something is being stolen, you are still required to give it… not only to give it, but not to hold them accountable… so much so, you are required, beyond this – to give more to those who stole, eliminating the entire notion of theft.

Taking is what we do every minute of every day – those who refuse to give (because it’s not voluntary) are the bad

Matthew 18:21-35

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Matthew 25:31-46

King James Version (KJV)

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

All of these verses define our relationship to God and our fellow man, not to the government. You are suggesting that government should punish us for refusal to give.

euwe max June 14, 2014 at 10:23 am

Actually, government is an extension of our relationship to God.. if you refuse to believe this, you refuse to believe that your relationship to government is derived from the grounding principles of your faith that defines your relationship to your fellow man.

All avenues that lead to your treatment of your fellow man must be based on the relationship you have to God, and your responsibility to Him for your care for your fellow man.

There’s no “get out of responsibility” clause…. “I gave at the office,” or “be of good cheer”… faith without works is dead.. works are the evidence of faith – both for government and for the individual.

In the same way Israel was required to care for the widow, the orphan and the stranger – you, as a member of a “Christian” government” are required to care for the widow, the orphan and the stranger… .the best way to accomplish this is through the economy of scale.

Bible Thumper June 14, 2014 at 10:59 am

We don’t have a Christian government and never have had one, nor should we.

How is it helping when you have multiple generations of healthy people on welfare?
——-
Ask Jesus, it is His commandment.

Matthew 5

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Luke 6

24 “But woe unto you that are rich, for ye have received your consolation.

25 Woe unto you that are full, for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now, for ye shall mourn and weep.

26 Woe unto you when all men shall speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them that despitefully use you.

29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak, forbid not to take thy coat also.

30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not back.

31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

32 For if ye love them that love you, what thanks have ye? For sinners also love those that love them.

33 And if ye do good to them that do good to you, what thanks have ye? For sinners also do even the same.

34 And if ye lend to them from whom ye hope to receive, what thanks have ye? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

35 But love ye your enemies, and do good and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest; for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Well, it’s your soul. Good luck.
———————————————–
Government programs have done some good and bad, but never has a soul been saved as a DIRECT result of them.
————————————————
You have posted the sermon on the mount and sermon on the plain repeatedly. They are apparently favorites of yours. These sermons condemn all mankind. As I read them I find multiple instances where I have failed. I have looked at woman with lust. Having done so I haven’t plucked out my eyes. My hands have participated in fornication, yet I have not cut them off. Reading only these sermons, the only conclusion you can come to is that all are lost.

Yet there was man who did not fail.
1 Peter 2:22
He (Jesus)committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.

He became our only worthy advocate before God.
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
He paid for our sins.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the unrighteousness of God.

Hebrews 9:14 How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from DEAD WORKS to serve the living God.

Dead works
Proverbs “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its
is the way to death” (14:12; 16:25).

Isaiah 64:6: For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

euwe max you are reading too much of James – faith without works is dead– and not enough Romans —
because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight . . . ” (Rom. 3:20)

“But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.” (Rom. 4:5)

There’s no act that saves your soul.

Man of the mortal mind! Do you believe in me or NOT?

God is real June 13, 2014 at 3:19 pm

After my father died every Sunday at mass for two years I prayed that God would do something to save my mom from the terrible loneliness that was keeping her depressed. Then my 40 year old sister went through a horrible divorce and moved back in with my mom. My mom started praying that my sister would find a new man and re-marry which she did. He is a full-patch member of the Outlaws and they now in a trailer in Daytona.

I still go to mass. I pray that my wife who is kneeling next to me is not praying for me. I think that God wants us to fix as many of our own problems as possible so he can focus on the bigger things.

So we can put you in the “God has AHDD” theological camp as opposed to those irritating adherents of the”Omnipotent/Infinite” camp?

God and I came to an understanding some time ago. She promised me that if we skyped every now and then, that I would not have to come over for every Sunday breakfast. So far, things have turned out pretty well.

Let’s see, Queen Haley endorses Mitt Romney in the SC GOP Presidential Primary, and despite having the most money and best organization, he loses to Newt Gingrich. Then she endorses McKinney who despite, having the most money and best organization, comes in second to McMaster. If I was a politician, I would be afraid of getting her endorsement!

Bible Thumper June 13, 2014 at 8:47 am

McKinney had the least name recognition and there were no deep ideological differences. In spite of what you hear from the media it is not always the most money that wins.

Could be worse, you could get Will Folk’s endorsement, run for Superintendent of Education and come in last.

Go ahead report speculations from Haley’s and McKinney’s opponents and make aspersions of their motives. It is much easier than journalism.

Any cursory knowledge of runoff elections would show that, unless McMaster made a huge gaffe, and since there are no significant ideological differences, for McKinney to pick up 26% to McMaster’s 6% was virtually impossible.

This shows how lost the Campbells really are. Spending money to win a ceremonial (meaningless) political seat is absurd since it has never been a good path to the govenors office. Carroll Campbell was a rock star to his supporters who threw wads of money at his election efforts. He would shudder at the thought. Then he would probably do a line out by the pool with Dicky, Cobb and the rest of the boys.

Thomas June 14, 2014 at 3:42 pm

It is obvious McMaster announced March 2014 to spoil Haley’s pick for Lt Gov. They really hate her. LoL. Now “they” did not count on Mike Campbell tying for second. McMaster knows Mike could transition to Gov in 2018 from the Lt Gov’s seat. (see ruining Loftis’ chances) He could lose all by himself, but somehow, his base, our anti-Haley base, will tap Mike for Lt Gov.

I still think Haley will be reelected, but talk about powerless. She really messed up. I suggest she focus on a US Congressional District to horn in on, but really, as Gov, she is feckless even if reelected. Other than that, start studying Indiana’s casino gambling and roll the dice for it here. Can’t believe I’m saying it, but her warming the bench till 2018 is our best bet.

Nothing will happen on casinos unless more happens in a neighboring state. If the Catawbas get gambling in North Carolina then there might be pressure on SC. Just like Georgia lottery put pressure on SC.

There is also a demographic problem. Young people <30 are gambling in much smaller numbers. They are involved in video games and some online gaming. Vegas now earns more from entertainment. Gambling is way down in Vegas, Atlantic City, and Detroit.

Thomas June 14, 2014 at 4:31 pm

Since Toal rebuked the Catawba’s plans in Fort Mill, I would drive to NC for a Texas Holdem Tournament, Black Jack, Keno, one armed bandits…so would a lot of other South Carolinians. The Catawba ruling was hateful.

Real estate developer isn’t a popular occupation down here in Charleston. More crappy McMansions, more taxpayer money spent on roads to open up land for connected developers, less natural beauty. No thanks. It’s amazing these developers think voters will regard their life’s work as positive.
