HUGH LEATHERMAN MAY BE JUST ONE VOTE AWAY …

S.C. Senator Hugh Leatherman (RINO-Florence) is already the most powerful politician in South Carolina … but he could be on the verge of growing even stronger.

The former Democrat – who sits on the state’s powerful budget board and serves as chairman of the Senate’s influential finance committee – is reportedly being eyed by Democrats and a handful of “Republicans” for the powerful post of Senate President.

That office was vacated last week by S.C. Senator John Courson (RINO-Richland) – who surrendered it in order to avoid inheriting the largely powerless lieutenant governor’s office, which is about to be vacated by Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell (RINO-Charleston).

Musical chairs, right? Exactly … and let’s not forget McConnell only inherited the lieutenant governor’s office because its prior occupant, Ken Ard (RINO-Florence), was indicted for his role in a cash-for-contributions scam unearthed by this website.

Anyway … if Democrats have their way, here’s what is going to happen: First, S.C. Sen. Yancey McGill (D-Williamsburg) will be elected Senate President on a very interim basis. Almost as soon as he takes the job, though, he will “ascend” to the vacant lieutenant governor’s office – which he will hold until January 2015.

At that point, McGill – an endangered white rural Democrat – will either “go gently into that good night” or wait a year and set up shop as a State House lobbyist.

With McGill’s election and “ascension” out of the way, the real race for Senate President will begin … with Leatherman hoping to reprise his governing coalition of Democrats and fiscally liberal “Republicans” (including former Democrats Luke Rankin and Billy O’Dell) in an effort to become the next Senate President.

Can he win enough votes?

Sources tell us Leatherman has already received commitments from at least four “Republicans” – not counting himself. Assuming all seventeen Democrats vote in a block for him, that would put Leatherman at 22 votes – just one vote shy of the number he needs to be elected Senate President.

Left out Courson, Malloy.
The best argument for Leatherman is to keep the reprobate Peeler from gaining anymore influence or power. He is a vindictive, low life and a self server for himself, Haley and his brother, former Lt. Governor, adulterer and Clemson Trustee, and Waste management lobbyist Bob Peeler. The two of them want to turn the entire State into a dumping ground, contaminated cesspool garbage dump!

So what happens to Foghorn Leg… err, John Courson? Does he go back to just a rank and file state senator?

Leatherman is 80 something. Even Carnivora can’t change that. With Leatherman, Toal, Courson et. al. all reaching their genetically controlled end of their careers (old age), expect a brutal fight for power in the next four years. If the GOP is not careful, SC will be Blue. Ageism is also eating away at the GOP’s support base. I suggest casino gambling in the ballot in 2016 for starters. Better start looking for some under 35 types as well. Personally, with the way the GOP has ruled by their KJV and their unyielding protection of our public sector benefits, Democrats are poised to run roughshod with pop culture issues coupled with black candidates.

Oh boy, we do not need Leatherman in any position of power. he needs to go home to the Pee Dee and pour concrete instead of serving in the senate.

In most states and the federal government, the majority party caucuses and selects the “leader”(speaker, president etc..) and then votes straight party line in the full body. Has our general assembly ever allowed a minority

Yes, John Courson won with substantial support from the Democratic caucus.

Courson and the Senate need to step up. Leatherman is already the most powerful (and corrupt) man in the state. Now, because Courson does not want to be inconvenienced, Leatherman will become even more powerful.

I understand the Dems aligning with Leatherman. but they should realize, especially the Black ones, what happens when all the power is in the hands of a few.

Leatherman should not run for, or be elected, President of the Senate.
