REAL? OR HOLLOW?

To read the mainstream media accounts, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (RINO-S.C.) is surging into November’s general election after “easily” claiming the GOP nomination for a third term in the U.S. Senate.

Oh … and the mainstream media didn’t bother to mention Graham’s likely third party challenger, Lowcountry businessman and reality TV star Thomas Ravenel.

True, Graham finished exactly where the polls said he would – at 56 percent of the “Republican” primary vote.

But is that “victory” as compelling as the establishment-friendly legacy press would have you believe?

“Graham spent $4 million and had a gaggle of opponents who together barely raised and spent $1 million,” one veteran Washington, D.C. consultant told FITS. ” He had virtually the entire state GOP establish shilling for him and yet all he could get was 170,000 votes.  It shows a weakness that is breathtaking.”

The consultant added that historically low GOP turnout in this year’s primary shows a voting public that is “isolated and alienated.”

“They are open to a third way,” the consultant said.

With his good looks, limitless resources, pre-existing statewide name recognition and mile-wide libertarian streak, can Ravenel emerge as that “third way?”

Graham advisors moved quickly to answer that question with an emphatic “no.”

“He showed his ass – literally and in every other way imaginable – on a weekly basis on national television,” one Graham advisor told FITS. “Thomas Ravenel is an embarrassment to South Carolina.”

Graham’s problem? There are bound to be plenty of female voters who liked  Ravenel’s backside … not to mention plenty of male and female voters who appreciate his fiscal conservatism. And unlike the “gaggle” of low-budget primary opponents Graham faced, Ravenel can go toe-to-toe with Graham on what is presumed to be his strongest issue – foreign policy.

Add it all up and Ravenel has the potential to be a very credible third party challenger. That’s why Graham’s campaign is already devoting extensive resources toward combatting his bid – conducting push polling against Ravenel and preparing a team of attorneys to challenge any signatures that may be submitted on his behalf to the S.C. Election Commission.

Graham’s consultants are also pushing the narrative that Ravenel’s presumptive candidacy is a personal vendetta – retribution for Graham’s alleged involvement in facilitating the 2007 drug bust that brought Ravenel down at a time when he appeared poised to defeat Graham in a race for the U.S. Senate.

Forget about T-Rav – rumor has it that Lee Bright is considering running as an Independent seeing as how he found 50,000 idiots to vote for him in the Primary. (I consider that the most shocking result of the day . . .) While watching that Republican Senatorial Candidate debate on PBS last week the only thought that kept running over and over in my mind was ‘Please tell me that this damn thing is not televised outside of the state. . . “

Not that shocking, really, when you break it down by county. I haven’t really examined it yet, but I believe that the bulk of his support was centered heavily in one or two upstate counties- I think he lost most of the others pretty hard.

If his resources were really limitless, he’d have gotten back into some public office of some kind by now.
The coke habit should be no big deal, since everybody knows it is rampant in elite GOP circles, even today. Oh, yeah, that’s right. He got caught. Wow, that that really sucks for him.
… which leads me to the skank girlfriend. Let’s face, it, she’s hot as hell. And I won’t even pretend that even though I’m even more too old for her than he is, I’m kinda jealous.

I hope Lindsey is paying attention to Cantor’s defeat, there are a few lessons to be learned there. While I firmly believe he will win in November going away (58% or better) if he just stays “status quo” he could make it a real landside by:
1. Dropping his stupid amnesty ideas and coming out with a position that affirms the need for border control and establishes an effective plan – get away and stay away from McCain, he’s senile and stupid.
2. Burning his copy of Team America World Police. Lindsey, it was meant to be a spoof, not a road map.
3. Remember that every dime we spend for “this” means that we can’t spend it for “that” unless we borrow and we’re all tired of you spending for “this and that and borrowing”. Make some hard choices you fricking reed in the wind.

So you’re one of the six five four million who have signed up. Have you actually paid your premium or are you one of the thirty percent who hasn’t quite got around to it? (Or the 400,000 whose records they can’t quite find). What was the plan originally supposed to cover, oh yeah 30,000,000 uninsured Americans what has it mostly done is just shuffle people who already had insurance (like you) around.

SCBlues June 12, 2014 at 8:33 am

LOL For someone who posts with such authority and fancies himself to be an authority on every subject you sure are ignorant of the facts. You know about as much about the voter id laws as you do about the ACA which is about diddly squat . . .

The Colonel June 12, 2014 at 9:12 am

No sah Massu Blue, I don’t know nuttin bout that…

However you flaming sycophant lets look at the facts:

According to The New York Times, at least 20% of those never paid their premiums to activate coverage, leaving them uninsured. That drops the number down to 4.8 million.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/14/us/politics/one-in-5-buyers-of-insurance-under-new-law-did-not-pay-premiums-on-time.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&_r=2

“Only 53 percent of them had paid their first premium, compared with 86 percent of the previously insured,”
http://www.cnbc.com/id/101512883

The Obama administration has touted a recent Gallup poll that found the rate of uninsured Americans dropping to 15.2 percent in February—the lowest rate since 2008.

But McKinsey, a leading management consulting firm, polled about 2,100 exchange-eligible Americans in February, and found only 27 percent of people who had picked a plan were previously uninsured. Only 53 percent of them had paid their first premium, compared with 86 percent of the previously insured. With 5 million total enrollments, that would be about
715,500 previously uninsured Americans who had chosen and paid for new insurance.
http://healthcare.mckinsey.com/individual-market-enrollment-updated-view
Feel free to believe what you want but the facts don’t support your beliefs. Now, please provide just one genuine example of a voter disenfranchisement due to voter ID laws.

2)Now, without a day passing you are trying to convince your readers that T. Ravenel is a serious contender. That boy can not get elected to county council he has so much baggage.

I am truly beginning to enjoy watching you make a fool of yourself by, as you put it “schiling” for him.

Here is a challenge for you. Please name a US Senator who got elected after having a cocaine related conviction. Surely there are a couple out there so share that with your readers because if T-Ravenel gets elected that would be the true historical aspect of this drama. If you dare take this challenge please leave out Mayors, etc and stick to the US Senate.

I loathe Bright as a politician but your reasoning for discrediting his candidacy is his personal /business financial failings. You love his voting record. Here is the real reason Sen Graham won Tuesday. The “margins of victory” for Sen Graham was provided by state workers on the promise their gratuitously subsidized state healthcare plans will continue unadulterated. This bill is the reason why legislators are going ahead with breathtaking tax increases to fund the cost increases to their state healthcare plans which will now include their children to age 26. Folks, taxpayers are the ones with “stupid” written on their foreheads and “kick me” placards taped on their backsides.

Reply
Beartrkkr June 11, 2014 at 7:49 pm

There probably ain’t a single state worker that is aware of that bill. The reason that Graham was elected is because nearly 60% of the people that bothered to vote had no legitimate candidate to vote for other than Graham. At some point your platform needs to be more than “I’m not Lindsey”.

Reply
Thomas June 11, 2014 at 10:30 pm

Au Contraire (that is French for “reach around), think about a whisper campaign to support Sen Graham after he promised everything except the Sun to get reelected.

You certainly will not see news of this bill in our newspapers or TV news affiliates. In fact, the Midlands has the worst newspaper, The State, and zero interest by the alphabet TV newscasters (and station managers) to report ANY politically related news story that casts a negative light on politicians. (forget investigative news gathering that concept died when affiliate station corporations began offering a very comfortable life pension and subsidized healthcare for 20-25 years service)

I saw this list under bills SC State Senator Shealy (District 23) is co-sponsoring. This bill effectively exempts our state/public worker subsidized healthcare plans from the ’employer mandates’ and ‘hours worked to not qualify (under 30)’ to name a few. Why? Because SC’s argument is they amended the state constitution to forever stay on the tax payers backs for the few at the expense of the many?

If SC Sen Shealy is co-sponsoring a bill to tell the US Senate to vote on and pass this bill, who doesn’t know? Law enforcement agencies statewide? The SCNG? Teachers statewide? Maybe the guys who clean our green walkways and trails did not know. They Know!

Reply
Beartrkkr June 11, 2014 at 11:53 pm

You do know that this particular bill (S.1077) is languishing in a Senate committee after being introduced in March, and that the legislature has left the building, and being the second year of a two year session, this bill is dead.

Oh, and a great number of people elected Alvin Green since A came before V (Vic Rawl) on the ballot, and you expect me to think that the general public is aware of a bill introduced last November in the US Senate and another meaningless and dead bill in the SC Senate is well known. Puhleaze….

Reply
Thomas June 12, 2014 at 2:31 am

SC’s bill begs the US Senate to pass the bill Mulvaney sponsored and Graham is co-sponsoring. The bill that would exempt SC is in D.C., not Columbia. All Graham has to do is get the
State Health Care Choice Act added to a giant bill such as Immigration Reform or a budget bill.

If everyone except Bright had dropped out and all the people who voted for all of the people running against Graham had voted for Bright, the result would have been the same. I am actually pretty sure the percentage of people voting for Graham would have gone up, because surely some of the people who voted for one of the other contenders would have preferred Graham over that nut Bright.
