LONE STAR STATE’S GOP ESTABLISHMENT EMBRACES ANTI-GAY PLATFORM

“Neoconservative” U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has vowed to lead a GOP revolution in 2016 unlike anything America had seen since the days of Ronald Reagan.

“Something incredible is happening, something is sweeping the state of Texas, it’s sweeping every state,” Cruz told delegates to the Lone Star State’s Republican Party convention last week. “In 1980, we saw the Reagan Revolution, we saw in the face of stagnation, in the face of feckless, naive foreign policy, in the face of America getting weaker and weaker, we saw a grassroots movement that turned the country around … that same thing is happening today.”

Is it, though?

And if it is … who is being left out of this “movement?”

According to Texas Republicans – who cheered Cruz’s rhetorical flights – gay people are not invited to the movement. Unless of course the “gay” in them is somehow “straightened out.”

In fact the Texas GOP passed platform language endorsing “reparative therapy” – or experimental psychological treatments aimed at turning gay people straight.

Unreal …

This website does not condone the homosexual lifestyle, but we don’t condemn it either … and we explicitly reject any effort by government to meddle in people’s private lives (including the institution of marriage).

Whether “Republicans” like it or not, people have a right to be gay … and government should have absolutely nothing to do with the free exercise of decisions related to sexual orientation. In fact it baffles us that so-called “limited government” Republicans believe our bedrooms ought to be regulated – gay or straight.

The longer such short-sightedness endures, the longer homosexuals (and those who eschew discrimination) will steer clear of the GOP … and the longer such constituencies steer clear of the GOP, the longer its electoral drought will endure.

Funny how that works …

Ted Cruz looks like such a whiny little pussy. I hope the Republicans put him up as their poster child for the next ten years or so. They will spin their wheels and fall further into the abyss that the Tea Party helped them create. With an assist from Palin, of course.

That’s another thing that burns my buns. Since when did people start calling themselves and what they do in their bedrooms a “lifestyle”. It’s a label that gay people have put upon themselves because they feel so unaccepted. And guess what? Gay people have been around since the beginning of time. I see a lot of census records during the course of my day. For instance, why did Uncle George never marry? Why did Aunt Mitty never marry and was a school teacher all of her life? Why did Aunt Ida run a boarding house and never married? I’m not saying these ancestors were gay, but do you know how hard people back then fought to hide it?? They would have been burned as witches in Salem’s heyday.
C’mon idiotwind. You know why that phrase is in this article. It’s to separate one’s self from the naysayers.

Reply
EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 10:32 am

Actually, the whole “lifestyle” label was something the anti-gays dreamed up to emphasize homosexuality as an insane choice rather than a physical condition of being. I’m gay – a homosexual person. I do not engage in a specifically “homosexual lifestyle”. My lifestyle is decidedly traditional, in fact. The label you righteously decry is just another slander hurled at LGBT folk to stir up hostility, fear and contempt against us.

This is why the GOP is steadily eroding into nothingness. They keep non-issues like abortion and gays stirred up, while aiding and abetting things which take money out of our pockets and deprive us of more and more liberty.

It really is no skin off of my ass if the alternate-lifestyle couple down the street gets married. It really is not degrading my quality of life if a woman who choses not to bring a child into this world that she cannot care for adequately, either emotionally or financially, terminates the pregnancy. If anything, it is probably an improvement for society in that a child raised without the love and support that any child deserves, will have very good odds of winding up incarcerated in various facilities and/or victimizing people because of their lack of upbringing and love shown them in their early years.

I wish these twits would focus on real issues and quit with these they conjure up out fo a pot of shit they found on the side of the road.

It’s because the GOP are slaves to the religious right. If they don’t harp on these issues that drag them away from moderates, they don’t drum up the crazies in the voting booths.

Nunyabiz June 9, 2014 at 1:50 pm

I am religious and was raised, and still vote as a Conservative, if I feel the candidate is in line with my views. More and more, I keep leaning elsewhere (never to the current Democrat party which I loathe equally). However, don’t confuse ALL Republicans with the “religious right” (whatever that means because people have a right to express their beliefs and opinions, and there’s MANY Democrats out there who are religious too). Here’s what my God means to me: I was taught to love everyone equally. Love thy neighbor as thyself. Treat everyone like you would want to be treated. Am I gay? No. Do I hate someone for being gay? No. Do I understand what it means to love and cherish someone? Yes I do, and so do gay people. They have the right to be with the one they love and share the same benefits as heterosexual couples.
Abortion: I believe in a woman’s rights, if it does not interfere with the man’s rights as well. A “baby Daddy” has no rights in this state, and neither do grandparents. What if he, or the grandparents on either side, were able to adopt and care for the child? My nephew went through that. Luckily the child was born and he fought for him, but he lost because they weren’t married. I believe that a woman has the right to have an abortion. I actually approve of our state’s current law regarding that, and wish it could be stiffer. The young woman needs time and education to understand what will be happening to her body, and the understanding that it could result in not being able to bear children in the future. When all is said and done, and the young woman agrees to go ahead with the procedure, then I believe she has the right to make that decision.
And that’s my crazy “religious right” opinion.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 10:08 am

Were your opinions uniform across Conservatives our national politics would be much improved. Furthermore, while you overstate the risk of sterility associated with an abortion procedure (by stating it at all – the chances are statistically insignificant), I can respect your personal stake. You have a more enlightened approach to politics than many of your fellow Conservatives. It must be very frustrating for you.

Reply
Mary June 10, 2014 at 10:27 am

No offense, but if we are using the current political vernacular that is not a religious right opinion. That is a religious left opinion. As you said there is a religious left. There are even religious moderates, like me who are somewhere in between. I believe a woman should be allowed an abortion for rape, incest, or if the pregnancy is a threat to her life.
However, I also recognize that women will likely have abortions whether its legal or not. The “religious right” accepts no responsibility for this even though they are the cause of our current system. Their preference for the hell fire and brimstone of the Old Testament over the love preached by Christ led them to shun and deride women who became pregnant out of wedlock driving the into the alleys for abortions and forcing society to deal with a health issue.

Life is also degraded by poverty, poor education, neglect, and lost potential. These sins are further visited upon the rest of society as unwanted children grow up to add their greater contribution to crime and dependency. The reality of personal economics ultimately defeats the anti-abortion arguments.

SCBlueWoman June 9, 2014 at 9:48 pm

And you can’t make the woman’s choice for them either. Period, and they aren’t preborn boys and girls, they are masses of cells, parasitic to the woman. Bless your heart.

Bible Thumper June 9, 2014 at 10:11 pm

I’m going to shower in three weeks. It is not for parasite’s host or for parasitic mass of cells. Your comment is viscous ignorant and unscientific.

I don’t blame women. It a choice we make as a society, not to value life. No one who can’t take care of themselves are parasites. Children, disabled or the mentally ill are not parasites.
I believe human life is inherently valuable and it’s value is not base on age, education or dependence on others.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 10:26 am

Human life is not inherently valuable. The value of any life is the value it generates for those around it. That’s the essence of community. None of us “take care of ourselves”. We are all beholden to those around us who contribute to our quality of life as a nation. Contribution is our moral measure.

Jan June 10, 2014 at 10:46 am

Sorry, but human life is inherently valuable. That is one of the pillars of our society. If you don’t believe that, liberty is valueless.
I’m not sure you are being honest with you beliefs here, and if you are you have an odd philosophy that doesn’t really match up with anyone I know, left or right. You actually sound more like Ayn Rand; but don’t tell the right that, they like her until someone tells them she was not a Christian.
In our system of government, the government is charged with protecting life. The problem I have with bible thumper and members of the so called religious right, is for them that obligation ends when the doctor cuts the umbilical cord. Life seems to lose value when you are outside the womb.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 11:18 am

That’s rhetorical clap-trap (“one of the pillars of our society” “liberty is valueless”). The pillars of our society are based on an order for protecting our own lives via cooperation with others and maximizing the value gained through individual self-determination. Our liberty is measured to the degree that we can pursue our own happiness while leaving others to do the same. Furthermore our government is charged with keeping order and protecting our resources/territories, over and above any protection it offers to an individual life.

Your statements are a nonsense. Also, perhaps my views do not correspond to either extreme left or right because our national reality falls somewhere in the middle.

Jan June 10, 2014 at 1:31 pm

Actually I would not describe your views as in the middle at all. I would say they are ultra far right. You seem to believe the value of human life is measured by what a person produces for others to consume. Frankly that makes you sound like a potential monster. Your philosophy would easily justify killing the elderly, disabled and mentally ill.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 5:59 pm

Only if you’re into sci-fi fantasies. I suggest that you grow up and TRYYY to remember that running around killing people is neither popular, nor easy, nor cost-effective.

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 10:19 pm

Not so. I just differ on the role government plays. Government is a protector, but only a provider of last resort. Obligation begins with the parents, then family, then local community, then charity and only finally with the government. When the government provides it creates more and more demand, making the problem worse.

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 7:35 pm

That is the Nazi ideology. First they killed the mentally ill, elderly and infirm.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 10:19 pm

You have a childish idea that measure by merit somehow equates to killing people. (Perhaps that’s your solution to dealing with moral differences. Somehow I’m not surprised.)

Any comparison to the Nazis is just silly. The Nazis were racists who took advantage of local nationalism and their own religious narrative to ignore the value and contribution of minority groups living in Germany. You contrive a comparison to drive a false point. Perhaps you can write off whole communities as having no value. (Gays, referring back to the original article, would rate lower by your standard.)

You ask why those around you have value. That should be obvious. You create value for them and they for you. So long as that occurs consistently in an orderly, secure, safe, and sufficiently amiable/respectful context, we call it a community. Communities exist for the mutual and respective benefit of each contributing member.

Finally, I don’t care what you hold sacred. No person, belief, or system is above objective scrutiny. Much of what you hold sacred may have value – so either define it or defer to someone who can (and I don’t mean your imaginary being in the sky). Some of what you hold sacred nets a cost which you want others to pay on your behalf. That’s immoral on your part and stupid on theirs. You spew rhetoric like “life based on utility creates horrific societies”. Well the USA is one of those societies and is far from horrific.

At the end of the day, your lot isn’t whining over our fall from grace as a nation, but merely your own loss of undeserved privilege.

The USA is not one of those societies, is not fallen from grace and has better days ahead. We are bless but not greatful.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 11:04 pm

The USA has only what grace and blessings that it creates for itself. “Equality before the law” was introduced to enhance stability for our fledgling fragmented society where corruption at the top was assumed (quite correctly, in fact). That concept remains because of the value it creates in stabilizing our politics across a now multicultural society. We are very much a utilitarian society. Your inability to measure value and cost systemically is where your confusion lies.

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 11:15 pm

The country has many roots. Some originate in Greece, some Rome, but Christianity one of the deepest. We finally share a value. Equality before the law. But I believe mine comes from a deeper source less likely to be shaken.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 11:22 pm

EndlessRepetition June 11, 2014 at 7:38 am

So what? The spread of Christianity follows political, economic, and social changes already present in a particular area. Religious narratives become popular in reflection to and support of where development is already heading. As mentioned before, Christianity is a tool and a flexible one at that. Nor is it the only one of its kind. It’s here for how we use it.

If the polls say trending anti-women, they look for a woman to run for something. It does not change anything they are doing or believe; but hey, if the governor of SC is a woman, our platform can’t be anti-working women.

———“Republican policies are bad for gay people, bad for minorities, and bad for women who think they are equal with (White/straight)men.”———

The way Democrats garner their support is by convincing and believing that they are unequal and the only way they will be equal is the government tips the scale in their favor. Republicans believe they are created equal.

Democrats believe some government policy treating certain groups differently is going to balance the scale for those born inferior. It won’t work because the group receiving the favorable benefits will always suspect they are inferior.

Jan June 9, 2014 at 9:01 pm

Actually, I don’t care whether democrats as a party are supported or not. I vote for people not parties. That said as best I can tell Republicans don’t give two hoots about whether people are equal or not. They support favorable benefits for rich people and corporations over poor and middle income people. They only want poor and middle income people to believe they give a crap about them. Remember the 42% of people Romney talked about ignoring, because they are worthless takers.

So its not a question of whether one side favors policies that support one group over another, both do to some degree. Its just that the Republicans want a lot more for their group and a lot less for everyone else. That is why they are fighting campaign finance laws. The ability to bribe politicians favors rich people. That is why the oppose transparency for political contributions. Rich people want to give politicians a lot of money in secret. That is why they favor sales taxes over income taxes. Sales taxes benefit rich people. That is why they want to get rid of social security and Medicare. Those are programs that benefit middle income people. That is why they want to cut public education. It primarily benefits poor and middle income people. That is why they oppose equal pay for women. Obviously you did not read my post. No, they don’t recognize that, and make no efforts in that regard. They believe people with a lot of money and corporation should be given preferences over everyone else, on some theory that if we make the rich richer the money will fall out of their pockets and the rest of us can pick some of it up. Actually I don’t think they really believe that, I believe they are paid to say that and vote that way.

6] – Catholics……anything spicy, smells of garlic, but tastes great –for days

Odd, but with a sleeping giant of Hispanic voters – don’t ya think that’s a bit dumb. Reply
Jay Ellington June 9, 2014 at 1:05 pm

Can critical thinking even be taught? The root of opposition to the ‘critical thinking” agenda, is to stop a lot of the very questionable methods public school administrators are adopting to teach sex education. Would you want your child to be taught that “real men love their women every day of the month” juxtaposed with a picture of an adult male who’s face is covered in blood. Is that the type of critical thinking skills we need pushed on our children?

Reply
a face in the crowd June 9, 2014 at 1:17 pm

Critical thinking skills are at the very core of an education. That is why so many right-wingers are terrified of education. They know that if they have to admit they are wrong about one thing, they might be wrong about another (i.e, the good Lord above, the earth being 6,000 years old, etc). Life in a bubble is much more tolerable for many people.

Will a well-groomed vagina ever be appreciated on its own merits, as a grand symphony – rather than a dangerous indulgence?

Because in the process of the “therapy” the “therapists” quite often demonize the sexual preference of the individual, usually with religious doctrine, and refuse to accept that what someone is sexually attracted to is not at all a choice and is essentially hard-wired into each and every person.

This “therapy,” at best, merely enables one to not act on their attractions; it doesn’t eliminate the attraction whatsoever. You can’t make a gay man not find some men attractive just as you can’t make a lion not like the taste of meat.

This “therapy,” at worst, makes a person hate themselves for something they can’t change, even if they don’t act on their attractions, to the point where they become depressed and/or suicidal over it. When it involves heavy religious overtones, it only exacerbates the problem because then the person feels they are failing whatever god by their inability to suppress something they can’t suppress, or rejecting whatever god by stopping.

You should seriously Google victims of such therapy and the kind of stuff they endured, or when their attempts at heterosexual relationships created high amounts of anxiety and depression over forcing themselves into something that just did not work for them.

I also find it extremely disheartening that parents send their kids to these kinds of “therapy” because of actions perceived as “gay” or “too feminine/masculine.” If there is any group that is at risk of suicidal thoughts it is teenagers who are just starting to experience their attractions for the first time.

Fits, this your second worst post of the year. People do not have the “right” to be gay. They possess the proclivity to be a homosexual.

Citizens elect representatives that can criminalize these proclivities. Representatives in our state can appoint judges to rule on such proclivities. Same applies at the federal level. Judges can be appointed to affirm decisions stare decisis or break precedent by a simple majority ruling.

The only rights we have are enumerated in the Articles of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. If you look at an organizational chart of the three US Federal Branches of government, the Constitution is placed ABOVE any federal branch. Our Rights are protected by the oaths our military swears or affirms to, elected officials swear or affirm to, civil or public workers swear or affirm to.

The problem we have in our Republic is buffoons like you who are brainwashed products of pop culture, pop psychology, and pop education.

Though we disagree on the nature/nurture thing we are in total agreement that the government and the gay lobby inflate the number of gays.

Your estimate is probably pretty low based on the fact that a number of gay couples are not interested in marriage and according to Justin Raimondo the concept of “marriage” is an anathema to the male gay lifestyle.

Once again, both sides wander off, scratching the itch **metaphor alert!**. There really is nothing more to say that hasn’t already been said by CinC (below), although I think I would say it in a SLIGHTLY different way.

But our side, conservatives & libertarians who believe there is place for everyone in America – even Democrats, except Obama – needs to understand that there are waves upon waves of Americans who will not stand to have unfamiliar mores substituted for their own. It is becoming more possible every day that these people are willing to fight to keep what they believe to be right. These are the people, and there are millions of them, to whom Ted Cruz speaks. And they are EVERYWHERE.

Don’t think you are clever by dismissing them. These people need to be convinced gently and slowly. Why? Because there are far more of them than there are of us.

There is a wonderful science fiction book, now out of print, in which the people rise up and burn down all the schools, all the factories, all the churches, all the laboratories, etc., because the clever few forced ideas on the people they were not ready for. In the end, a few scientists saved the knowledge and even went far beyond, but they had to do it in secret, convincing the now agrarian society that they were magicians and witches and that healing the sick and so forth was magic.

In the end, the protagonist of the book comes to realize that scientific goals must be achieved with humility, and the agreement of the society it serves.

Democrats and Rhino’s are not evaluating their push for immigration reform beyond the short term. Cruz was educated in America. He was immersed in our culture through the calender and the media. His is the moment with which he identifies. There are several misnomers they have applied to Mexican/Central American immigrants. One is that they are very bigoted towards Blacks and homosexuals, not the other way around. Secondly is they are not educated in what liberal runs schools pass off as knowledge. They have their own calendar and beliefs. Third, they are catholics. If you think there are waves and waves of Americans slow in accepting the homosexual/atheist culture being pushed on them…wait a while. Mexicans will be the force multiplier for Buckley Conservatism. My only concern with the current amnesty bills floating around is the shock in expenses to be accrued versus the current state of our economy. Money will be scarce and any trend to fix the gap in wages for immigrants will tip towards conservative not progressive candidates at the polls. Mexicans are not wanton to sit around on welfare. They are creative and hard working people who will work for their goals. Get ready, the GOP will be the beneficiary of immigration reform that being the Buckley Conservative wing.

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 9:42 pm

—–“Christianity that seeks to excuse prejudice,”——
Never!
Childbirth would be subjugation only in the case of rape, in which case the law should allow abortion.
——“morality over measured value, virtue, and contribution—The greatest morality is often seen in those society least values and whose contribution is not measure able in dollars or any other way.
That magic book inspired the development of science, colleges, hospitals, the abolition of slavery and Martin luther King. It still inspires today.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 10:36 pm

Bull. The sciences, colleges, hospital, and anti-slavery concepts were established long before the magic book and were driven by necessity, human ingenuity, and our common sense of justice. Your magic book, like many others, is a culturally convenient communications tool. I quote scripture where poetically appropriate. I also quote from a variety of other texts.

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 11:05 pm

You are dining history if you deny the contributions of Christians. There have been slave rebellions before, but you will have to provide evidence that slavery was opposed on principle by free people before Christians did. It is not a coincidence that gay rights movement originated in a Christian culture.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 11:18 pm

Nor was it a coincidence that American Christian culture as we now know it became established among our people in the first place. Nigeria and Uganda also have Christian cultures – significantly different from ours. Christianity is a cultural tool. It live or dies within our culture on the value it creates as a shared context for communication, not the so-called truth it reveals.

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 11:27 pm

I’m embarrassed by my spelling on my phone. Autocorrect:-(

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 11:43 pm

I watched the POV program “God Loves Uganda” about that.

EndlessRepetition June 11, 2014 at 8:42 am

Well, Uganda is not unique in its disdain for gay folk and Christianity is not the cause of it. It’s simply part of the method used to communicate and focus existing antipathy for political advantage. The Texas GOP is attempting the same thing, albeit American-style. Both the Ugandan gov’t and the Texas GOP are throwing an unpopular “other” to the dogs for the entertainment of the howling mob.

These policies cost a few lives – a few more murders in Uganda, a few more suicides here. Our additional body-count will contain the younger, more morally conscious, more emotionally sensitive sort. Many years ago, in the parking lot of a gay club in Charlotte, NC, I helped remove the body of a very young man from his mother’s car with a garden hose stuffed in the exhaust pipe. Never mind how you’ll spin yours (and his) faith clean of any role in that tragedy. It’s enough to say that I’m not a fan of simplistic fairy-tales that give license to anti-intellectual savages to socially torture the “different” into hating their lives. That’s your bible and every other. That’s you and your “sacred” dogmas. (Don’t give me any “love the sinner, hate the sin” crap.) Now, I don’t give a damn what nonsense you use to stabilize your emotional self but you and yours continue to legitimize these xenophobic myths via our law. Fine for you, toxic to us.

Bible Thumper June 11, 2014 at 12:15 pm

You want it it both ways. You blame all the bad things on Christianity, but dismiss all the good. I’m no defender of fundamentalists views, only their right to have them.

EndlessRepetition June 11, 2014 at 2:28 pm

When a faith, Christianity or otherwise, teaches you to despise the different and to codify that prejudice into law, it’s a pretty bad thing. Sure enough, faith and the communities of faith, mine included, do many great things and help many people in need. These good works do not excuse them when their power turns toward bigotry and sadism.

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 10:50 pm

Christianity never seeks to excuse prejudice? LOL. I’ve met plenty of your “inspired” witch-doctors who went out of their way to condemn, insult, attack and degrade LGBT folk at our own pride festivals – the one event when we tell our own that they are not alone and forever subject to your sadism. I’m glad to have lived long enough to see your favorite chew-toy taken away.

Furthermore you don’t define when childbirth becomes subjugation. That’s up to the maybe-mother. It’s her body, not yours.

Finally, the development of the sciences and the concepts of university education, hospitals, and the abolition of slavery were all driven by necessity, human ingenuity, and a common sense of empathy and justice. If your magic book hadn’t been available, another would have been used, most likely with similar values expressed in the narratives. We make these magic books for our own consumption, after all.

Bible Thumper June 10, 2014 at 10:57 pm

EndlessRepetition June 10, 2014 at 11:13 pm

There are many gay Christians with my husband among them. The casual observer might call me one. They simply do not ascribe to the fundamentalist interpretation of their Christian bible or revelation. Of course, you’ll find these few and far between in Texas. Many of them refugee here to Atlanta.

GrantLV June 10, 2014 at 12:39 pm

Once again, author, don’t use the term “gay lifestyle” unless you can define what that lifestyle is. We don’t live our lives any differently from the majority of Americans. We have jobs, pay taxes, pay mortgage or rent, raise kids, shop for food. There’s yer gay lifestyle.
