“DECIMATED” TERROR NETWORK PLOTTING ANEW AGAINST AMERICA …
Remember al-Qaeda?
The global terrorist network America has been fighting for the last two decades is reportedly plotting fresh violence against the United States – including new attacks on American soil. According to CNN, a ” series of al Qaeda-based threats to attack American and Western targets in Europe, as well as threats to launch attacks inside the United States, has caused significant concern inside the U.S. intelligence community.”
Wait … how is this possible?
During the 2012 U.S. presidential election, Barack Obama repeatedly touted his administration’s progress in the war against al-Qaeda – saying the terror network had been “decimated” and was “on the run.”
In fact, this rhetoric continued after Obama’s reelection …
“Core al-Qaeda is a shell of its former self,” Obama said last May, boasting that its “remaining operatives spend more time thinking about their own safety than plotting against us.”
Apparently that’s not the case …
Just this week a U.S. House subcommittee heard testimony from counter-terrorism experts and former U.S. Department of Defense officials totally debunking Obama’s rosy assessments.
“Part of the reason these assessments have been flawed is that al-Qaeda has a ‘deep bench’ to draw from, both from within its own organization and allied groups,” said Thomas Joscelyn, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
Meanwhile a former Pentagon official affirmed this perspective – arguing repeated references to “core” al-Qaeda ignored the broader reach of the acephalous network.
“My view is that al-Qaeda, despite our tactical counter-terrorism successes, continues to be a major strategic threat to the United States and its allies,” former deputy assistant defense secretary David Sedney said. “Tomorrow, al-Qaeda will be an even greater threat because of its ongoing evolutions.”
Exactly … and let’s not forget the impact ongoing American interventionism in Middle Eastern foreign policy has on al-Qaeda recruitment.
Oh … or the fact America’s warmongers (most notably Obama, U.S. Sen. John McCain and U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham) are currently providing arms to groups fighting alongside al-Qaeda in Syria.
Nothing like spending tax dollars to fight both sides of foreign conflicts, is there?

But I thought we killed all of those guys when we invaded Iraq? Sorry, I was busy remembering us being treated as liberators by the Iraqis. And having Iraqi oil money to pay for the war.
Republican solutions always begin and end with guns.
That’s a problem ??? I thought it was the solution.
The only good Indian is a dead Indian.
The only good Indian is a dead Indian.
WHAT?
Asian Indian… Indian Indian… Indian from India.. bapoo!
oh…OK…..
Namaste.

He meant brown people.
Aren’t they always threatening stuff? Seems like a convenient boogeyman to bring up whenever anyone proposes military spending cuts.
No body wants to listen to “Ikes” warning.
… and now, since we insist on poking the Bear over what is basically its own internal affairs with a former territory, we get to have two Bogeymen. Award bonus points if we succeed in starting WWIII. That should be worth double the money for “defense” spending.
Aren’t they always threatening stuff?
Exactly.
It’s their job.
Oh no, they’re going to attack us! Quick everyone, give up more of your freedoms for “prevention” programs that may or may not work!
The funny thing is, the US government could stop all the threats and attacks on the US at this very moment.
They could withdraw from all overseas bases & interference and practice a “MYOB” foreign policy; that would end everything. Basically they could update Smedley Butler’s US defense plan and put it into action.
Total Cost to “protect us” from terrorism using the above method:
$0 dollars
In fact, it would save us from having to fund the DHS and it’s vast network of money sucking programs/subsidiaries to protect the Fatherland.
But then the MIC progams get scaled back, vast swathes of bureaucratic employees get laid off, pols don’t get their kickback money, etc.
So the chance of that happening, 0%
Total Cost to “protect us” from terrorism using the above method:
$0 dollars
Well, there’s the problem. No cost = no greased palms.
Wow. How did I not think of that?!

WTF (heh!) was being hyperbolic.
TBG suspects that there is a Laffer curve type cost/benefit relationship to “defense” spending and security. TBG believes we could cut it waaaaay back and still be as, if not more, secure.
TBG also understands that it is vital to err on the side of too much defense as opposed to too little.
I don’t know…I’ve heard eerily similar ridiculousness from Ronbots, Ravenels, Will, etc. Silly and naive. I agree with you that we could cut military expenditures dramatically, but that’s a (mostly) separate issue from isolationism. Rolling down the palace gates sounds great in theory, right up until you take your first international economics or history course. The world would never leave us alone. You’re right, too, about spending. The only good thing about underspending on defense is that it’s a self-correcting error.
” The world would never leave us alone.”

“You don’t tug on superman’s cape.”
Amen! Hitler did; Hirohito did; and several small-timers since then. We’re still 21-1-1 or thereabouts so we’re doing OK.
AQ will come for us as long as they can muster even a single cell of wingnuts. They’ve moved well beyond the old tired “infidels in our lands” thing. I’m really starting to think they just don’t dig us at all…
Very cool tune reference, by the way.
TBG (for some reason) is partial to, “You don’t pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger…”
Chances are, without Woodrow Wilson’s, admittedly well meaning, *international leadership* in WWI, one would be luck to find Hitler and Hirohito listed on Ancestry.com.
Very true!
“WTF (heh!) was being hyperbolic.”
Sorry to disappoint, but I wasn’t. It’s just that a non-interventionist foreign policy and defenseive tactical strategy SEEMS hyperbolic given the nation’s proclivity to intervention and offensive tactics, especially of the last 5 decades.
Yep….looks like ol’ TBG got caught speeding.
TBG is on your side when it comes to non-intervention. We would still have to spend $$ on defense…but actual defense…not force projection and occupying half of the planet.
Its a lot of good words but its not true. The idea behind al-Qaeda is offensive jihad behind the defensive jihad. They will never accept the kafireen in their lands, and ultimately will aim to subjugate ALL in a global khalifa. Fox and friends may be crazy about a lot of stuff but the ultimate goal of al-Qaeda isn’t the 1998 jihad declaration of Usama ibn Ladin, it is global khalifa. Plus AQC has lost control over a few of their branches because of the ISIS/AQC split. Ibn Ladin may have said the conditions were American forces out of the land of the two sanctuaries, but the victory of one jihad doesn’t mean AQC disbands.
…the ultimate goal of al-Qaeda … is global khalifa.
OK.
So what?
*If you are willing to pay for the rental…TBG is willing to spend a couple weeks a year at Edisto beach keeping watch for their navy and troop transports etc. In fact, if y’all will spring for the charter, ballyhoo, and booze…TBG is willing to participate in offshore patrols ranging from the Georgetown Hole to 226.
It’s like we piss ourselves when the equivalent of the Harlem boy scouts from another nation gets lucky and kills someone.. then, in blood rage, foaming, we attack some desert sand – and lose more men than the actual attackers – who came from a different desert – killed…
Bed wetters… Nancy boys… strutters and bar stool heroes… gun brandishing chest sticker-outers… that’s a sorry development for the proclaimed winners of WWII through attrition and the use of Marines as bullet sponges.
All is good.Obama , the ‘closet’ Muslim , has accomplished his mission .Radical Islamists, the Muslim brotherhood and Iran are all stronger and the destruction of Israel is at hand.
Fuck the Middle East. Let those assholes kill each other because everybody’s “Holy Book” tells them too.
Why attack US when we elected one of their own POTUS? Kinda reminds me of another dictator that said We will conquer you without firing a shot. (for all you children that was Nekita Kruchev ) spelling bad.
The Patriot Act has worked exactly like I said it would: As long as we have an honest administration it will work . But we won’t always have one. See how that is working out?
The world will always be a dangerous place. It would be great if that wasn’t true, but it is.

Lawd, China! You think we can, um…hate to ask, bbuut, borrow some more money? I swear, we have it this time…
Not if but when.
“Osama is dead, al Qaeda is on the run and GM is alive,” is Mr. Obama’s claim. So you see, there is no problem, if you don’t need to contact Osama, join al-Qaeda, and drive a Chevy Volt.
Bush is keeping us safe.
Did a damn good job of it for seven years.
Yeah, except for that little 9/11 thing, and the war based on lies… other than that – oh, and putting the war on the credit card.. darn… and that whole bailout thing… and his stand on immigration reform… yeah, he was a real stand up guy, when he wasn’t falling down.
Add to that the one hour and twenty minutes it took to scramble jets when it was known that four planes had been hijacked. Protocol required an immediate response in this situation.
Were they ordered to stand down?
Bush kept us safe.
Yeah, except for that little 9/11 thing,…
“Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln…How was the play?”
“Miss me yet?”
Nothing says lovin’ like something in the oven

Congrats.
TBG had to whip out his big ol’ dictionary on that one.

Not. Just. No.
HELLZ NO!!
It’d be a blessing if they blew up the SC Supreme Court.
You mean drones haven’t solved everything? But they look so neat and have a sinister name. Maybe we need another “Shock and Oh Pshaw” to convince everybody we are winning. Well, everybody here in the US in any case.
Who took care of Bin Laden? Case closed. Sit down and STFU.
Where’s the body?

Where’s the body?
At the bottom of the Indian Ocean, underneath Flight 370.
Exactly!!!!!!!
Wrong! He has assumed the captaincy of the Flying Dutchman and is prowling the Bermuda Triangle infecting cruise ships with salmonella.
I heard it was all a scam by the Trilateral Commission – Osama died of kidney failure.
Obummer took the credit for the work of Bush, Cheny and the Seals. Did you listen how he gave the speech announcing UBL’s eradication ? You would think he did it single handed. President Bush gave all the credit to the military one time earlier when he could have done the same. A REAL leader as opposed to a jerk.
Put your tinfoil hats on, Malaysian Flight 370 to return.
Just in time for another Bush at the helm to attack.. oh.. Chad, I guess.
Chad? Good choice. A remote, landlocked, inhospitable place with no reliable allies nearby.
The Bush’s and the Chad’s hung together in Florida, remember?
With the weakness of this administration I am surprised it hasn’t already happened. When it dose we will see the difference between a leader and Obummer. Thank God we had President Bush on 911.
Thank God we had President Bush on 911.

I’m sure Osama bin Laden thought so too.
