The Real Story Behind Tom Ervin’s Radio Ad

“INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN” SAYS HE WILL BE ON NOVEMBER BALLOT South Carolina’s self-styled “independent Republican” gubernatorial candidate Tom Ervin released a radio ad this week challenging Gov. “INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN” SAYS HE WILL BE ON NOVEMBER BALLOT

South Carolina’s self-styled “independent Republican” gubernatorial candidate Tom Ervin released a radio ad this week challenging Gov. Nikki Haley on the issue of ethics reform.

Missed the spot? Of course you did. It was on the radio … and about ethics reform. And while Haley is exceedingly vulnerable on this issue, it’s not exactly the sort of thing that sends voters stampeding to the nearest AM dial.

Buried within the Ervin spot, though, was a reference that caught our attention …

“Remember, independent Republican Tom Ervin will be on the November fourth ballot,” the candidate says in the spot.

That’s no small boast, people …

For a petition candidate to earn a spot on the November ballot, they must submit 10,000 valid signatures to the S.C. Election Commission (SCEC) by July 15.

Which is no small task …

Apparently Ervin is either well on his way to reaching that threshold – or has hit it already. Either way, that’s additional evidence of a campaign with the resources necessary to cause Haley some serious headaches in a general election – which is the real story behind Ervin’s latest radio ad.

In addition to Haley and Ervin, S.C. Sen. Vincent Sheheen is running for governor as a Democrat. Sheheen came within four points of Haley during their first head-to-head matchup in 2010. Libertarian Steve French – a Lowcountry small businessman – will also be seeking the nomination.

Belonging to a religion doesn’t bother me, wanting to shove that religion down everyone’s throats does. He can believe whatever he wants so long as he does his job properly.

(Besides, you’re assuming any of the other candidates aren’t Christian?)

Christian is now like RINO… instead of “Republican,” they will begin to write “Christian.” Unless you brag about it, like you’re something special… and condemn everyone else for not being open about it – you’re a “Christian.” Let’s not even bother finding out if they’ve actually READ the bible, or even have the vaguest idea what’s *in* it. Let them get away with the sound bite without investigating.

Your post is an out and out lie!
I served in the legislature with Ervin and have known him for 35+ years. Yes, he was a Democrat then, just like haley would have been, and just like 90% of your Republican party, who later switched and now serve as Republicans.
Ervin was conservative then and he is even more conservative now.
You can lie, spin, cheat and try to paint him with your haley spin all you want. The Post and Courier poll said 60+% liked Ervin and his position on the issues, while 36% liked Haley’s!
Read it and weap. I hope he out polls her by 4-6% and he is well on his way!
I worked for Haley last election and about two months with her after being sworn in. She proved to me she is a bald face liar, self serving individual! I’m finished with her! I know both well and Ervin gets my vote, money and support!

As long as this state continues to elect 30 to 40 year-olds as Governor in the hopes of ultimately scoring a President we will continue to have a piss poor administration and a sad state of the union as it is. It’s a big job that deserves the wisdom that comes with age and a record that is unblemished over decades of service.

Moost animals die during testing and are generally euthanized after testing is concluded. That is especially the case for beagles, which are the most commonly used dogs in laboratories because the breed’s calm and forgiving nature makes them easier to work with. Currently, there are about 75,000 beagles in laboratories across the United States.

London-based AstraZeneca plans to move the canines to other facilities so they can be used for research. AstraZeneca told the Beagle Freedom Project the dogs are needed elsewhere. The company would not say exactly how many dogs were in question.

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Beagle-Freedom-Project-Research-Dogs-California-AstraZeneca-Sweden-189284801.html

“These animals deserve a chance, and given the proper care, most of these animals can have very full lives,” state Senator Mark Manendo (D-Las Vegas) told The Las Vegas Review-Journal after the pups were freed on May 5. “They have given themselves to science and should at least have the opportunity to get adopted and have a forever, loving home.”

Manendo is currently working with the Beagle Freedom Project on a bill that seeks to limit animal testing in Nevada. The legislation is expected to be introduced in the 2015 legislative session.

A summary of Charles River Laboratories’ AWA violations reads like a criminal indictment: inadequate veterinary care; failure to provide suffering animals with pain relief; inadequate housing, causing a high incidence of foot injuries in dogs; shoddy surgical methods resulting in the misery and eventual death of a dog; and failure to investigate non-animal alternatives to experiments involving severe suffering. Rabbits with skin lesions 4.5 inches deep were given no medical care, and unqualified personnel caused such severe injuries to monkeys’ fingers that the digits had to be amputated. At Charles River’s Nevada facility, 32 monkeys were baked alive when a thermostat malfunctioned and no one noticed. A monkey was scalded to death when her cage was run through a high-temperature cage washer—while she was still locked inside. Charles River posts annual revenues in excess of a billion dollars, but the company has apparently failed to institute simple safeguards to ensure that animals aren’t being burned and baked to death.

About a dozen beagles and their owners, marched to the Capitol Tuesday to support Assembly Bill 2431, authored by Matt Dababneh.

The bill is intended to keep dogs and cats from being euthanized by taxpayer-funded state research labs at the end of testing.

Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 7-11-70, petitions to nominate candidates elected in the general election to serve as commissioners of public service districts shall require signatures of not less than two hundred fifty qualified electors of the district concerned or five percent of the total number of electors of the district, whichever is the lesser, if such petitions are otherwise in compliance with this chapter.

HISTORY: 1978 Act No. 597 eff July 18, 1978.

All nominating petitions for any political office or petition of any political party seeking certification as such in the State of South Carolina shall be standardized as follows:

(1) Shall be on good quality original bond paper sized 8 1/2 ” X 14″.

(2) Shall contain a concise statement of purpose; in the case of nomination of candidates, the name of the candidate, the office for which he offers and the date of the election for such office shall be contained in such petition.

(3) Shall contain in separate columns from left to right the following:

(a) Signature of voter and printed name of voter;

(b) Address of residence where registered; and

(c) Precinct of voter.

(4) No single petition page shall contain the signatures of registered voters from different counties.

(5) All signatures of registered voters shall be numbered consecutively.

(6) Petitions with more than one page must have the pages consecutively numbered upon filing with the appropriate authority.

SECTION 7-11-85. Verification of petition; bases for rejection of petitioners.

Every signature on a petition requiring five hundred or less signatures must be checked for validity by the respective county board of voter registration against the signatures of the voters on the original applications for registration on file in the registration board office. When a petition requires more than five hundred signatures, every one of the first five hundred signatures must be checked for validity and at least one out of every ten signatures thereafter beginning with the five hundred and first signature must be checked for validity. If the projected number of valid signatures, using this percentage method for the signatures over five hundred plus the number of valid signatures in the first five hundred, total at least the number of signatures required by law on the petition, it must be certified as a valid petition. No petition, however, may be rejected if the number of signatures over five hundred checked using the percentage method plus the number of valid signatures in the first five hundred does not total at least the number required by law. If insufficient signatures are found using the percentage method in order to certify as a valid petition, the board of voter registration must check every signature over five hundred separately, or such number over five hundred until the required number of valid signatures is found.

If it is a petition seeking to certify a new political party or if the office for which the petition has been submitted comprises more than one county, and using the percentage method of checking does not result in the required number of valid signatures, the executive director of the Commission shall designate which counties must check additional signatures.

No signatures on a petition may be rejected if the address of a voter, registration certificate number of a voter, or the precinct of a voter, as required by Section 7-11-80, is missing or incorrect if the signature is otherwise valid. The signature of a voter may only be rejected if it is illegible and cannot be found in the records of the board of voter registration, is missing from the petition, or is not that of the voter, or if the registration of the voter has been deleted for any of the reasons named in items (2) or (3) of Subsection (C) of Section 7-3-20.

True. But how does a vote for Ervin hurt Haley if they would’ve never voted for her anyway?
The only way a vote for Ervin hurts Haley is if they are choosing between Ervin and Haley.

Recorded dissatisfaction… it’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness.

Just another guy May 22, 2014 at 8:55 pm

He had a man getting signatures outside of the old Pumpers Gas station on Pleasantburg in Greenville tonight. That gentleman said they need 20k sigs not 10k.

Hmmm….have you heard anything about a fundraiser and an event to gather signatures at Planned Parenthood in Columbia for Tom? I would love to attend if Gosnell can speak.

If no ID is required I will sign 5,000 times. We dems need to stick together and we need a pro-abortion governor and first lady in South Carolina.

All signatures must be certified with voter registration, address and phone number. We were all briefed on the law! You would not be able to sign and be counted, but once!
If you sign 5,000 times, you will be counted ONLY once and maybe prosecuted!

Hitler? Tom Ervin has given THOUSANDS of dollars to the Democrat Party which supports advocates and funds millions of abortions including partial-birth abortion.Tom was giving money to the Democrat Party when Barack Obama was legalizing partial-birtth abortion in Illinois as state senator.

10,000 are required but they verify the first 500 and every 10th there after and they can project how many are good. You want extras because some will claim or be mistaken about there registration. Each signature checked has to be compared to the right county list.

Thanks! Wish I had known, I will drive by today. Hopefully he will still be there.

10,000 signatures are needed, but the more signatures you get, the more powerful the message of change is. If Ervin can get double or even triple the number needed, he would get some much need press attention, both inside and outside of the state.

Anyone who seriously considered Bright as a replacement for Graham, should have no trouble considering Ervin replacing Haley.

Vince came within 4 points because some people thought Haley was a decent person. Now they know the truth. She doesn’t stand a chance of winning and probably knows it. Maybe she can make up another story about beauty pageant disqualification or childhood abuse.

Is there a way we can sign the Ervin Petition, legally, online for Mr. Ervin, that would be cool.
