ASSESSING THOMAS RAVENEL’S POSSIBLE U.S. SENATE BID …

For the second time in as many weeks FITS has received reports of political polls attempting to assess the viability of Thomas Ravenel’s potential U.S. Senate candidacy.

The former statewide official/ successful businessman/ reality television star has said he will run as an independent in the event left-leaning “Republican” (and two-term incumbent) Lindsey Graham secures the GOP nomination next month.

Two weeks ago, FITS received reports of Ravenel’s name being included in a poll designed to gauge support for candidates in another statewide race. This week, his name reportedly popped up in another survey testing approval ratings for Graham and other top-ranking South Carolina politicians – including Sen. Tim Scott and Gov. Nikki Haley.

So far, none of the polls have sought to “test messages” regarding Ravenel or his prospective candidacy.

“Testing messages” occurs when pollsters provide respondents with information about a specific candidate – positive or negative – in an effort to determine whether it sways their opinions. Accurate or not, items producing larger “swings” in opinion often wind up appearing in television commercials or other campaign propaganda.

Neither have any polls placed Ravenel on a U.S. Senate ballot and asked voters to choose between him and other candidates – although one pollster familiar with the upcoming race tells FITS “that’s coming.”

“The goal at the moment is simply to determine Mr. Ravenel’s favorability among South Carolinians who are registered to vote,” the pollster told FITS.

He is only running because he heard something about long “lines” at the polls, and thinks it means something else.

I think it’s a bit odd that you cast a vote on such a basis. Does his tight white pants elicit deep feelings best left unexplored for you? Could you relate to the American Beauty scene in which The Colonel lays a big kiss on Spacey?

Ravenel is nothing but a freak in a sideshow, He needs his @$$ kicked. He’s like FITS…a bored little, self-absorbed punk…who is getting involved in politicics, because he wil not work, and has nothing else to do…

What is a bit disgusting: Is that Tom Ervin, a democrat and a liar, is running against Haley, just to try and elect a very dangerous democrat…

Yet: I’d be VERY much supportive of a Conservative, skipping the US Senate Primary…and taking on Graham in the general as an independent.

A democrat senate candidate could split the moderate voters for Graham, and the Conservative may be able to take the seat for the GOP…so we’d have a real Republican in the Senate, which is what most South Carolnians want…

All Ravenel is, is an classic example of a self-serving dirt-bag. He, like FITS, not only represents what is wrong with politics, he is a glaring example of a South Carolinian and an American at its WORST…

Don’t worry, FITSNews is the essentially the only place paying any real attention to Ravenel. Let the moron waste his cash running for office.

He’s a slothful trust fund baby..like the Kennedys and Chelsea Clinton….
They usually want the gov’t to hand-out taxpayer money, so their fortune will be left for them to do drugs and chase Ho’s (see Teddy, who was very much pro-off-shore drilling)….

People who WORK for their money are not for allowing the government taking money from us, to fund your power and greed…

You may not like T-Rav’s personal traits, but you LOVE his politics. No Estate taxes, no capital gains tax, and a flat tax on incomes so that millionaires pay the same taxes on their next dollar as the mill worker. Put the T-Rav?GT agenda in place and this country will be run by nothing but trust fund babies.

It is ALWAYS about money when the subject is politics.

So you don’t approve of his personal behavior but you do agree with his political objectives, then?

Sandi Morals May 16, 2014 at 10:48 am

My oh my! The self-proclaimed FITS pollster that has a winning percentage that rivals the ‘fly’. :-)
Picked Colbert-Busch and Tinabu to win and they were routed.Picks Kasich to lose in Ohio and not only is Kasich up 15% he is statistically tied with Hillary Clinton for 2016.

vicupstate May 16, 2014 at 11:04 am

I never said Tinabu would win. i never said Kasich would lose either. Only that he was in a more important state than SC and in a close race, which he is. Why the RGA is giving Haley money and not spending it on him, was my point. Sorry if it went over your head.

Wow, he is ALMOST tied with Hillary in his OWN state! Impressive!

Sandi Morals May 16, 2014 at 11:33 am

Yep.50-35 is a close race? Impressive!

vicupstate May 16, 2014 at 11:59 am

That is ONE poll out of many. It will go back and forth throughout the campaign. It was tied not long ago. An incumbent under 50% is a sign of trouble, he is only one point from that level. If you knew anything about polling, you would know that.

Sandi Morals May 16, 2014 at 1:22 pm

That is good news because Hillary Clinton can’t break the 50% barrier and she has to be considered an incumbent for a variety of reasons.
Thanks for falling into my trap!

vicupstate May 16, 2014 at 3:34 pm

The GOP is panicking because Hillary is beating the pants off of all the GOP clowns. That is why the Rovian grasping at straws Brainghazi Bullshit. In 2016, all of America will be Ready for Hillary !!

T-Rav is a Low Country JFK – good looking, slender, looks good in a boat – comes from a good family. We should be proud to have such a committed public figure looking to devote their time and energy to serving the people of South Carolina.

Actually, I don’t completely disagree. If the media cared about the dishonest nature of JFK…the two could be described as very similar…except JFK did serve his country…T-Rav would bolt his coward @$$ to Canada post-haste if he was ever asked to actually contribute, or EARN his freedom..

And I always marveled a what a vapid, Bimbo Jackic-O seemed to be…T-Rav has a skank…

Reply

The media loves a JFK look-a-like. And T-Rav plays that role. Entitled Low Country money kid. The difference between T-Rav and Co. versus Lexington County entitlement kids is Low Country crew has more money and nicer houses.

T-Rav seems JUST as well educated, JUST as well groomed for politics, JUST as capable et cetera as JFJFK(note:sarcasm). And frankly JFK wasn’t that great. T-Rav is only about 50 cuts below JFK, and just a cut or two below the average bum on the street.

This is the one race
this year where I am absolutely torn on how to vote. I don’t see any way that
graham will get eliminated in the primary. I will definitely be voting against
him there, but I just don’t think there is a unified assault by the primary challengers
sufficient to unseat him, even in the case of a runoff.

From there, if it
looks like there is absolutely no way that the Republicans can regain the
Senate majority, Ravenel will have my vote; my personal convictions are
different from his, however I view him as being honest regarding his position on
the issues, and generally on the correct side of fiscal issues. My gut feeling
is that T-Rav will pull enough Libertarian leaning votes from Graham to hand
the election to the Dems……..the # of straight party “D” votes will be
sufficient, regardless of the credibility of the candidate. Now don’t get me
wrong, I don’t want a Dem. from SC, but it would be no different than what we
have now, other than the whole honesty about your convictions thing. I honestly
have no issue with this, as it doesn’t shift the balance of power at all, and
figure it would be easy to put more fiscally responsible Senator in place 6
years from now.

On the other hand, if
there is a strong possibility that the Republicans can take the senate, and we
need to have an “R” in Grahams seat to put Obama’s agenda on complete lockdown
for the next two years, I will hold my nose and vow to fight extra hard next go
round to get him out.

Very well stated for the most part…Exactly how I feel, except I would NEVER NEVER vote for Ravenel. To use his name is the same sentence w/ ‘honesty’ is a travesty…

Decency, morality and self-sacrifice I admire. Ravenel is indecent, immoral, self-centered and selfish…That is the biggest problem in politics…We can NEVER let anyone on his level anywhere near elected office in SC. He IS the Corridor of Shame…

SCBlues May 18, 2014 at 4:10 pm

I guess you’re right – we’ll call it a draw. Just curious who the chics are that your reference though? And I must say that I am absolutely flabbergasted that you identify as Republican . . . you seem so . . . well . . . so sane!

Mike at the Beach May 18, 2014 at 6:29 pm

Sane?! Now *there’s* something I don’t get called every day! I prefer to think that I am fairly well-educated, at least a little above the hump of the intelligence bell curve, and pretty objective. Sane? Mmmmmmm…probably not. It should increase your confidence in your assessment to know, though, that I piss off Republicans almost as often as I do Dems. ;-)

SCBlues May 18, 2014 at 8:56 pm

Okay – maybe “sane” was taking things a bit too far – LOL. But it most certainly is reassuring to know that you are an equal opportunity pisser offer . . .

Folk’s limited vocabulary fails him again (though it only seems to happen in stories about people who are paying him). Let me suggest a brief list which you may access when describing Ravanel (should the day come that you aren’t a deceitful, dishonest dirtbag): felon; narcissist; embarrassing; criminal; disgraced… Please note that this list is not exhaustive.

Reply
Jack's swollen uvula May 16, 2014 at 10:02 am

Ravanel isn’t running. Once he sees that he would have to invest millions of his own money and still lose (badly, very badly) he won’t do it. It’s a business decision.

Here is the truth, the libertarian/Tea Party is probably going to get punked in the elections. It’s not a failure of the ideology, but it is a failure of the people purporting to be the keepers of it. It’s a failure of the candidates those groups are backing.

I would describe myself as a conservative, but I want to vomit when I look at those who lead Tea Party groups or run on those platforms. They can’t think past catchy one-liners about freedom or the eagle t-shirt they wear everywhere. Conservatism is a thinking man’s ideology. It doesn’t work with stupid people leading it.

Reply
SomalianRoadCorp May 18, 2014 at 10:48 pm

This. Only a handful of groups have stuck to the fiscal conservatism and didn’t meander off that platform.
