CHARGES FINALLY BROUGHT IN EMBEZZLEMENT SCAM
Last August this website exposed an ongoing criminal investigation into hundreds of thousands of dollars in missing funds at the Greenwood County (S.C.) Sheriff’s Office.
Bottom line? A Sheriff’s office employee, Sandi McAlister-Owens, allegedly stole more than $300,000 from various law enforcement funding streams over a four-year period – blowing the money on her daughter’s beauty pageant career, among other things.
This week Owens was indicted for embezzlement – and faces up to ten years in the slammer if convicted.
Still unknown? What (if any) role Greenwood Sheriff Tony Davis had in the scandal.
“The Sheriff and his staff, and the County and its Council and staff, want only for the property rights of the taxpayers of Greenwood County to be protected, and therefore look forward to having this matter resolved in accordance with the law,” Davis’ office said in a statement.
Really? Perhaps Davis could have protected taxpayers by making sure long-established protocols governing the disbursement of monies from his office were followed.
“When the drug accounts were handed over after Davis won as a Democrat on Obama’s coattails in 2008 – he’s since switched to the GOP – they were protected by the standard protocols which required three parties to issue any check,” one of our sources says. “Owens and Davis were personally briefed on these protocols when the accounts changed hands.”
According to the source, Davis is either “criminally corrupt or criminally incompetent.”
We concur …
Here’s where it gets interesting, though. According to sources close to Owens, she has repeatedly made clear “there’s no way I’ll take the heat for this alone if they arrest me.”
Well that day has now come …
South Carolina has been awash in Sheriff’s scandals in recent years …
Earlier this year Williamsburg County Sheriff Michael L. Johnson was busted filing fake police reports as part of a credit repair scam. Last spring Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker was indicted in the wake of an inmate labor scandal. In June 2012, Saluda County Sheriff James Booth lost his job in another inmate labor scandal. In April 2012, Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain was busted using a squad car to drive his mistress to an abortion clinic so she could kill their illegitimate child. Meanwhile in 2010, Lee County Sheriff E.J. Melvin was busted participating in a narcotics ring – receiving “dues” from drug dealers in his county in exchange for providing them with his protection.
Gotta love the Palmetto State’s definition of “protecting and serving …”

The politics in South Carolina are incestuous.
It’s not just the politics.
I see how this shakes out. She implicates the sheriff and gets probation instead of prison because, here it goes, “I’m a single parent and who will raise my kids if I’m in jail?”.
Question is, why did they take so damn long to arrest her? Wasn’t this exposed a year or so ago?
Another sslllooooww SLED investigation is my guess.
I love the ’86’ on the license plate on the cop car, a transitive verb to mean throw out or get rid of, like the Sheriff and his druggie beauty pageant fiend, Hey Sheriffs like drugs too, its only natural, both the feeling and the take; and it holds true for all Sheriffs in SC, their all on the take but their not running the show, Sheriffs are not permanent, just electable, so who does sling the drugs in the Sheriffs departments in SC, especially in the Holy City where it smells the mighty mighty nasty; agreed southmauldin? “86,” I love it, no dust, no rocks, the whole thing is over and a beauty pageant excuse too, beauty takes many forms; so cool, any version will do. Maybe they’ll round up the bad guys and give them a ride in the 86 mobile. Rain tomorrow I’m told.
Have you forgotten? Big Sam was found guilty on all counts last month. Please update the file from which you cut and paste prior stories.
According to the source, Davis is either “criminally corrupt or criminally incompetent.”
All together now…….
Why couldn’t he be both?
I prefer the term ‘bastard’ to ‘illegitimate’.
Fits’s source is Mike Frederick, for any who may be interested.

Is this the guy Freddy Boy?
Yep, that’s him. The guy that single-handedly cost Dan Wideman re-election.
lulz..honey boo boo was using stolen money to finance her beauty pageant operations. Who is surpised?
Ya ain’t seen nothin’ yet, Jocko!
She should have gotten Johnny Harrison’s attorney. How he has avoided being arrested for widespread bank fraud is a true mystery. He bilked SC banks, including those our native Greenwood, out of millions of dollars and not a single indictment. His best friend Henry Dorn belongs in jail too for his fraudulent certification of Johnny’s finances. Investigate that.
I’ve also wondered how Dorn escaped prosecution. Sounded like the tip of a massive bank fraud iceberg involving lots of prominent folks.
The politics throughout America are corrupt and down right evil. People use to call them public servants buy today it is all about doing favors and lining their pockets while staying in power. They have their own little kingdoms. From DC to the smallest hamlets in America it is absolutely corrupt and without moral values.Once elected they raise their salaries and perks and reward their family and friends. I once asked a councilman was he not afraid they were going to break the city and his reply was not as long as we can raise taxes.A school board in Marlboro Country has gone as far as having their meals catered when they meet and supposedly the School Supt. got a $40 gas payout for going after the food. Then I heard they all carried food home with them. If this is true it falls on the heads of the general public for not paying attention and being involved along with the local media. America is becoming rotten to the core.
First, this website didn’t expose this scandal. It was first reported on a local website then followed up by the local newspaper. Then FITS here got involved. Second, the woman was not arrested and is not single. Third, FITS fails to point out that there were purchases made at Victoria’s Secret. Taxpayers are forever scarred thinking of that 300 pound, cigarette puffing beast in lingerie.
