“WALK THE WALK” ON TRANSPARENCY, GOVERNOR …

We don’t agree often with the uber-liberal editorial page of The (Spartanburg, S.C.) Herald-Journal.  On most issues, its left-leaning authors have their heads firmly implanted in their rear ends – not unlike the opinion leaders who write for the SHJ’s parent paper, The New York Times.

We wholeheartedly concur, however, with the Herald-Journal‘s call for S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley to immediately release a report prepared by her administration in the wake of the 2012 #SCHacked scandal – in which her Department of Revenue colossally failed to protect our most sensitive personal information.

“The financial lives of 5.7 million South Carolinians and 700,000 businesses were put in jeopardy by the state,” the SHJ editorial stated. “We deserve to know how and why.”

Actually there are only 4.5 million South Carolinians last time we checked. For those of you keeping score at home, SCDOR coughed up 3.8 million Social Security numbers, 3.3 million bank account numbers, tax info for more than 650,000 businesses and nearly 400,000 credit and debit card numbers to as-yet-unidentified hackers during a weeks-long intrusion beginning in August 2012.

Haley’s management of the #SCHacked scandal has been atrocious. After waiting sixteen days to inform the public, she initially claimed that “there wasn’t anything where anyone in state government could have done anything” to stop the breach – and that the Palmetto State used “industry standard” data security methods.  Both of those claims turned out to be completely false.

Haley’s administration received a $20 million bailout to pay for all the costs associated with the breach – including a controversial credit monitoring deal with a firm that was later hacked itself.

Funny how that works …

No one involved in the heist has even been identified, let alone held accountable – prompting some lawmakers to question exactly what went down.

Hence the pressure to release a report on the hacking incident prepared by the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) – which is part of Haley’s cabinet.

“The governor should support releasing the report,” the SHJ editorial continues. “Trying to keep it secret makes it look as though the government has something to hide.”

Ya think?

Haley campaigned on transparency in government – and her administration insists she’s lived up to her promises. However her refusal to release this report is the latest in a long line of anti-transparent moves she’s made dating back to the 2010 election.

Nikki Haley will order them to sit on this report until after the election. She will do so under the guise of its a ongoing investigation, one which will all know will be indefinite since hackers overseas are never caught. She does not want her voters to see how utterly incompetent she really is nor how big a liar she is.

Today about 15 Democratic candidates, including gubernatorial hopeful Vincent Sheheen and lieutenant governor candidate Bakari Sellers, will participate in the Galivants Ferry Stump, which also will feature remarks from Jimmy Williams, a commentator for MSNBC, and former U.S. Sen. Fritz Hollings.
Hey Linda G. . Is it true Democrat Tom Ervin is the Keynote speaker tonight at this socialist party in Galivants Ferry? Is it “envelope” time for Ervin and Sheheeen? :-)

You forgot to mention the crooked board she picked to run DHEC so her hack, TempleTON, along with her incompetent buddy Shyster, could be negligent in notifying parents and testing children in the Greenwood TB debacle because they didn’t know what they were doing and were merely trying to cover their ample backsides from litigation/exposure.

It’s cool that millions of our state tax dollars are being used to as protection from a credit breech that the Grifter-in-Chief tried to cover up, lied about and then threw out a no-bid contract to smokescreen her leading from behind on this subject? That’s really cool, Tango. You indeed are a fucking buffoon.

That said: I know it’s hard to take, but I don’t let my clients know that I despise political correctness and government waste, unless they are cool, too….. I’m known and well-liked in the “community” by liberals…and I’m a contributing member, financially…too…

I hate Trikki and the degradation she has brought to cabinet agencies…building on Mark Sanford’s messes of course.
Therefore, I would feel better if some kind of official statement would come from the Secret Service rather than SLED. They don’t need to give specifics, they just need to give some kind of general progress report on the investigation, even if it’s simply ongoing.
I do not think this is much of a campaign issue in SC because I read a couple of weeks ago that less than 4% of the eligible taxpayers had signed up for the free credit protection. That seems to be an indication that 96% of the SC population never heard about the hacking or don’t understand that having your Social Security and bank account numbers hacked is a pretty big deal…and most of those people vote Republican anyway.

Organized Citizens With March May 12, 2014 at 5:42 pm

First we take down Bobby Harrell ( and plenty will fall with him). Then we take down Haley. The people of South Carolina have awaken to just how bad the corruption and lawlessness actually is. They want heads. And it is not just a few thousands who do. It is hundreds of thousands that want all of these low life crooks removed and thrown in prison. Word of mouth almost destroyed the Chrysler Corporation. Word of mouth is certainly exposing more citizens of South Carolina to these organized criminals. Our elected and appointed leaders who are suppose to represent us (not dictate to us) are only in it for the money – and the power. The voters, they have proven time and time again, that they don’t give a shit about the citizens.
