The Investment Commission is run by Hugh Leatherman, through Reynolds Williams. That s as establishment as you get. Seanna has always been the go to reporter when a powerful pol needed to break a story in the best light possible. AP doesn’t really matter anyway. Few people ever comment on their stories and that is a sign of being out of touch with this audience .

Really? Five independent investigations by the Attorney General, Inspector General, SLED, Ethics Commission and Funston found nothing wrong. What would make you believe the place should be shut down? When the last word is said, we will find that the trust fund has 0 money from the deal that Curt did all by himself, like a big boy from West Columbia. Evasive? He supports his reporter. Especially when she writes the truth. If Loftis wants the truth written, then he should give her the information she asks for. Redacting signed state contracts is the most evasive lack of transparency I ever heard of and I used to be in charge of writing state contracts.
Transparency goes two ways. It appears to me that Loftis is the one not being transparent. He refuses to give her documents, she files and FOIA, he gives her a redacted unintelligible contract which is clearly in the public domain. What is Loftis hiding? Why does he not want us to know the details of his contract with the administrators of the 429 college education fund? Why does he not want us to know how much he is spending on advertising which prominently displays Loftis in campaign mode? Because that money comes out of the underperforming College Education Fund that is supposed to be a savings program to send kids and grandkids to college–not advertise a political candidate. Loftis should be ashamed! This is malfeasance! It all comes out of the college savings funds of people who put faith in the State of SC to educate their kids, not re-elect Treasurers. Shame on you, Mr. Loftis.

Becky left the house of representatives and took a commissioners job at the old Unemployment Security Agency. Converse Chellis has had an open marriage for years. Everyone, and I mean everyone, in Summerville and in the state house complex knows this. I did not know Becky was in on the action though I knew Seanna is a close friend of Converse Chellis and has stayed in his house as a guest before.

I have had a business experience with Mr. Loftis back in 2003. He lied, cheated and probably stole. He tried to associate himself with me because it did something for his extremely inadequate image of himself. His greatest fear is that he will be found out to be the fraud he is. I certainly found that out in short order. Beware of this guy. He is willing to attack an innocent girl who has been requesting information from him for weeks. He finally gives her a copy of a contract with the firm managing investments for the college fund he administers that is so redacted that it is unreadable. This is a public contract. It is fully subject to your state’s FOIA. Nothing should be redacted. He is ashamed of the document since he is doing the same thing he berated Chellis for doing: using college money for personal campaign purposes. This should be a case of malfeasance. I think Curtis Loftis wrote this and 2/3 of the remarks on here are written by Curtis under his various aliases. Curtis was attacked by his opponent in the primary. Normal. Seana reported on it. Since I got into the Newz Biz, back in the late 50’s, we were NEVER allowed to rip and read, if it was an AP story (I worked in radio stations that had both AP and UPI.) My News Director insisted that we get another source, and if AP was wrong, and it usually was, you had to call the feed reporter, whose name and station used to appear at the -30- mark, and get the real info. Often, I’d have to call a deputy or a police IO. Some times, I’d have to call my “Mystery Source” – a Senator or an insider. What I usually discovered was that somebody wanted something to be true, so badly, that they “made it so.” I never gave away my sources and that’s why, after all these years, the ones who haven’t died of old age, I still have.
Over the years, I have written extensively about the suasion used by people of great power on people in the media. Most are easily co-opted. The ones who can’t be, get fired. That’s why you’ll see originating corruption stories start, these days, on Blogs such as Will’s.
