2012 GOP Race

TRY NOT TO CHOKE ON THE IRONY …

There’s some thick irony coming out of the S.C. “Republican” Party (SCGOP) this week …

The establishment that’s flooded with fiscal liberals and former Democrats suddenly wants us to believe the word “Republican” means something. And is worth fighting for. The party of former Democrats (like S.C. Senators Hugh Leatherman, Larry Martin, Billy O’Dell and Luke Rankin) and big government “Republicans” (like House Speaker Bobby Harrell and Gov. Nikki Haley) is up in arms that an independent gubernatorial candidate is referencing himself as a “Republican.”

In his first television advertisement of the 2014 gubernatorial election, petition candidate Tom Ervin refers to himself as an “independent Republican.”

That declaration was promptly greeted by a cease and desist letter prepared by GOP attorney Doug Smith.

“You chose to run as an independent,” Smith writes to Ervin in the letter. “The use of the word ‘Republican’ by a candidate who has chosen to withdraw from the Republican primary will undoubtedly confuse voters and create the false impression that you are actually a candidate of the Republican Party.”

Really? They’re not angry the GOP’s own gubernatorial nominee has pushed a fiscally liberal agenda on taxesspendingeducation and (most notably) government-subsidized health care?

Of course not. She’s an actual “Republican,” remember?

And people wonder why GOP party identification is at an all-time low …

Anyway we’ll be sure to bring you Ervin’s response to this “cease and desist” letter if we receive one …

UPDATE: And here is Ervin’s response.

The money shot?

“I wish the governor showed as much passion in protecting our vulnerable children who have been abandoned by the director of DSS, fixing our crumbling roads, reforming our tax code and giving parents more choice in the education of their children as she does in protecting her political future.”

The Stupid Son a B*#ch needs to READ the GOP Platform…

Ervin is a DEMOCRAT…He is just too ashamed to admit what he is…and as filthy as your party is…I don’t blame him for being ashamed…

And unless YOU are a Republican (you’re not)…you need to STFU….you’ve done a enough damage,,,

Why is it nobody wants tooo be a democrat anymore? They are either a progressive, an independent or a socialist when asked toooo identify a particular affiliation.

Toooo be fair toooo hicupstate, dem candidates always run as republicans at election time.Once elected they just go back toooo destroying the country with their socialist, perverted agenda.

PPP has a slant, but it was fairly accurate in 2012.

vicupstate April 24, 2014 at 5:49 pm

Okay,

How about Rasmussen ?

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2014/florida/election_2014_florida_governor

If you knew anything about pollsters, which you don’t, you would know Rasmussen is a GOP narrative driven fraudster pretending to be a legit pollster. Yet Scott is still losing to Crist. I guess even they could only slant a poll so much.

Who give s F#*k you ignorant, anti-American Piece of S#!t…it’s April and its a PPP poll…you are not that F*#king stupid, are you???…….oh, you’re a democrat…so I guess you are…

The Republican Party has sued successfully in the past for unauthorized use of logos and names, so… yeah they probably have a point.

A logo can be copyrighted. The word ‘Republican’ cannot and has not.

Like it or NOT…Smith is right…

FITS, you got into power sucking off a so-called Republican…and immediately told the late Lee Bandy (may he RIP) that you’d just as easily whore yourself to Jim Hodges…

Too many LIARS came before Ervin. He is a democrat, who is abandoning that name because they have become FILTHY and seen as unfit by decent South Carolinians…

If Ervin can get elected in a GOP primary…let he be THE Republican…

But it’s obvious he is running just so the DEMOCRAT can get in..it’s your only chance, because you such so much…

Do you even bother to read your stream of consciousness rants before you hit the post button? I’m surprised you can even type on your keyboard since it is covered with slobber from foaming at the mouth at everything and everyone on this site. Just go away. Your cardiologist will thank you. Then again, you probably keep him in business.

The phrase “Independent Republican” contradicts itself. The guy has no principles other than self-promotion.

She ran as an “Republican” petition candidate against another Republican on the Nov 2012 ballot. Sounds like an Independent Republican.

Check out the poster. Seems you can have more than 1 “Republican” candidate for a Nov election.

Ervin is Crist? April 24, 2014 at 4:48 pm

I was proud to vote in the Republican Primary in 2012, to host an event in my home for Mitt Romney, and I’m proud of the 2014 sustaining membership card in the South Carolina GOP I received from Chairman Moore.

Hilarious.I bet Charlie Crist hosted a few events as a REPUBLICAN GOV. Florida and carried a GOP membership card before he figured out he couldn’t defeat Rubio in the Republican Primary for an open senate seat and proceeded to not only run as an Independent but continues to try and destroy the state Republican Party as a democrat.
Sounds like Tom Ervin, does it not?Or it will soon be?A vote for this man,in my opinion, is a vote for Barak Obama and the Pelosi-Reid legislative agenda.

Why does an independent get to decide if they can use “Republican” or “Democrat” in their title? Should a Libertarian party candidate be able to call themselves a Libertarian Republican? I thought the whole reason he chose not to participate in the Republican primary, other than to improve his overall odds, is that he didn’t have to compete with others labeled as “Republican” to run as the actual Republican candidate.

Grow some balls, dude. Run without the Republican in your title.

Ervin will have to drop the “republican” in his campaign. Now, as in the past, if he polls under 10% he will be excluded from all reindeer games as well. LoL

Ervin can call himself anything he wants. South Carolina does not have party registration like some states so the SCGOP is whistling in the wind about any candidate calling himself an independent Republican. Makes for a more interesting campaign, don’t you think?

The widening of the gap of the haves and the have nots in America, the decline of the population of the middle class, and the decline of the economy equals the decline of Republican voters. This is a mathematical certainty.

You can’t blame the victims and get them to vote for you.

The wider the income gap, the more Republicans are viewed as decimating the middle class and redistributing wealth from the middle class and from the social safety net to the ultra rich.
