A MODERN TWIST ON AN ANTIQUATED LITANY …
By Will Folks || I don’t say the Pledge of Allegiance anymore … not even nostalgically.
First of all the pledge is an oath of obeisance to a piece of fabric. More importantly “the republic” for which that fabric stands is clearly no longer “one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
It’s a suppressor of liberty and justice … one bankrupting future generations.
And while I don’t care if America is “under God” or not … I do care that its leaders – Republican and Democrat – refuse to stay out of both my wallet and my email.
Anyway, do a little research and you’ll discover the lyrics to the pledge were written by a Christian socialist – which is kind of ironic when you consider it was conceived by a magazine publisher as part of an effort to sell more American flags.
That publisher – James B. Upham – was “very much interested in a patriotic propaganda to get the public school children to raise flags over their schools.”
In Upham’s view “the old patriotism had fallen to a low ebb.”
“The love of country which had been a passion when the Republic was new, and which had reached its climax at the Civil War, had gradually become enfeebled,” the pledge’s author, Francis Bellamy, recalled years later. “Big business enterprises had absorbed the people’s thought. The simple patriotic idealism of the former generations was being forgotten in the current materialism. That old spirit must be revived. The place for the revival to begin was in the public schools. The new generation must be taught an intense love of country.”
And so Bellamy and Upham embarked on their patriotic mission (which by the way was a rousing success).
Today? There’s a new pledge out there …

Believe it or not, my wife sent that to me (she’s actually more of a libertarian than I am). And while some may find it offensive, I find it accurate.
America is moving with increasing rapidity in the opposite direction of the ideals it was founded on. Ours is an overspending, overtaxing, warmongering, special interest-serving, spy state plutocracy … one in which the productive class (whose industry is relied upon to continue providing welfare handouts and corporate giveaways) is being increasingly drained.
The center – as this website has said time and again – cannot hold.
So yeah … pledge allegiance to that.

I can’t argue with you on that, Will.
BTW, what are the kids saying? They are so off-key from each other that I cannot understand them.
The pledge does not have lyrics. It has words.
Not if you but a hip hop beat to it.
Ghetto Pledge, I like it!
Will, an interesting discussion. However ‘overspending, overtaxing, warmongering, special interest-serving, spy state plutocracy’ blah blah blah (Ron Paul babble)ain’t what is destroying this ‘republic’.
The fact that WE and the GOVERNMENT have devalued human life via the slippery slope of abortion, infanticide and euthenasia (Obamacare) is what has destroyed the spiritual and moral culture in this country. No ‘republic’ can stand when we destroy our unborn and eliminate the most vulnerable in our society because they are a burden. The devaluing of human life from the ‘womb toooo the tomb’ in this country has created another generation of youth that are often souless and hopeless.
Pledge away however until you and the other faux conservatives/RINOS’ etc…understand this, we as a nation are doomed toooo the same fate as the other ‘great’ civilizations that have failed throughout history.
“one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
I will take my chances!
So THAT’S why my taxes are going up and jobs are harder to find. Abortion. Who knew?
Sure.30,000,000 plus taxpayers have been aborted since Roe v.Wade.Billions of dollars that would have fed our treasury.
Think of all the potential taxpayers that never were because of abstinence!
Most of those aborted would have been parasites anyway, not taxpayers.
Yup, every aborted fetus was destined to cure cancer, become a billionaire, invent the next great thing, etc.
Lord knows unplanned pregnancies don’t result in welfare reliance, single motherhood, and all of those other evils conservatives warn us about.
Yup, every aborted fetus was destined to cure cancer, become a billionaire, invent the next great thing, etc.

Smirks, perhaps you mother made the wrong “choice”?
Day-um.
Just day-um.
No…no….no. our Republic started backsliding in 1954, when *they* added “under God” to the Pledge.
Without “under God”, we were BACK TO BACK WORLD WAR CHAMPIONS!!!
Since 1954…
“(she’s actually more of a libertarian than I am)”
Maybe she’ll help improve your character.
:)
“Obeisance” [sic] “a pledge of obeisance”? When you write a story about how others “get it wrong”,…it would be nice for you “to get it right”.
Damn, I was giving Will credit for using “obeisance” intentionally. In amongst all of the Ron-speak he’ll bust out a four-dollar word on your ass once in a while, ya know.
“Ron-speak” ???????
“RON SPEAK”!!!!!??????
WTFMATB????
TBG queries with faux chipmunk-like earnestness of a true Ronulan.
*Full Disclosure: TBG is an ardent supporter of Ron Paul.
Now, now TBG…you know that you are not a *true* and thoroughly brainwashed Ronbot. I know, because I’ve watched you make lucid statements on here before. I like ol’ Ron, too, because he reminds me of that one crazy uncle I have. Neither one of them should be POTUS, though.
Will, Delta is ready when you are.
Has he moved out of Columbia yet? Isn’t his time to do so about up?
He is scheduled to move the day after his book on his affair with Haley hits the book stores.
He could also “renounce” his citizenship “Ravenel style,” since that doesn’t really create any consequence for the dim bulb throwing the tantrum (with the exception of making the dim bulb look a little petulant and, well, dim). Since “Ravenel style” renouncement doesn’t *actually* require that you go through the steps, give up your citizenship, turn in the ol’ blue USA Passport, and move the hell out, it’s pretty easy. I almost hated to post here, but alas I succumbed to the obvious click-baiting. I guess since the Constitution was written and ratified by slave-holders, it too (like the flag, the Republic, Mom, apple pie, military heroes, etc.) deserves no reverence. Sometimes the worship of non-reverence can become a religion in and of itself. Lighten up, Francis…
Lighten up, Francis…
You, sir, are like the “Big Toe” of commenters here.
I soon as I saw the headline I knew you were linking the WKUK national anthem sketch.
Tea Party “Patriots”
I think Will should travel around the world. Take your guns and compare the rights and opportunities in other countries. I know that I am thankful to be a US citizen. I know it is a syrupy out fashion statement to make, but I still believe in this country. Ok. I am ready for everyone to mock me.
Everyone should defy the Pledge of Allegiance because it was the origin of the stiff-armed German socialist salute and of that type of behavior (see the new book “Pledge of Allegiance + Swastika Secrets” by the author Ian Tinny, explaining the discoveries of the historian Dr. Rex Curry). Even the people involved in litigation against the pledge are so brainwashed that they will not bring up these startling facts, which would help their case. Many atheists completely miss the point. Bellamy was very religious, a “Christian socialist” and his original pledge (1892) was a small part of his much larger pledge program replete with hymns, prayers, references to the Bible and God, including the phrase “under God.” That is why the original pledge program cannot be performed in government schools, only the pledge’s tiny part (to which the newer deifiication was also added in 1954). The old news media will never mention the Pledge’s putrid past, nor print a photo or video of the early American stiff-armed salute. If they did, then no one would stand for the pledge. The pledge continues to be the source of Nazi behavior wherein government schools (socialist schools) begin each day by teaching bullying and peer pressure and punish dissenters. The pledge is a daily repetition of the Milgram experiment, a witch hunt, and a demonstration of the banality of evil. Francis Bellamy is sometimes referred to as America’s Leni Riefenstahl because of his earlier influence on spreading socialism (and the stiff-armed gesture) through government schools et cetera. Bellamy wanted government to take over education. When his wish was granted, government schools taught racism as official policy, and imposed segregation by law.
Tin foil hat much?
I stopped saying the socio-communist “pledge” years ago. Not only are its words false, it is idolatry plain and simple. Good for you, Mr. Folks!
