DEMOCRATIC GUBERNATORIAL NOMINEE POPPED ON WOMEN’S ISSUES
The Republican Governors’ Association has launched a new television advertisement blasting South Carolina Democratic gubernatorial nominee Vincent Sheheen.
The ad centers around Sheheen’s work as a defense attorney on behalf of criminals charged with both violent and sex-related crimes – including sex crimes against minors.
And guess what … the story that provides the backdrop for this hit broke exclusively on FITS earlier this month.

“Sheheen defended violent criminals who abused women and went to work setting them free,” the ad’s female narrator states. “So next time Sheheen says he’ll protect women from violent criminals, ask him: What about the ones who paid him?”
“Vincent Sheheen protects criminals. Not us,” the narrator concludes.

“Actions speak louder than words, and the reality of Vincent Sheheen’s background as a trial lawyer tells a vastly different story than what he has offered up on the trail so far,” RGA Communications Director Gail Gitcho said in a statement accompanying the release of the ad. “As he attempts to court voters with ‘tough on crime’ and ‘defender of women’ rhetoric, they should remember Vincent Sheheen has fought for the very same criminals he now decries, not for South Carolina.”

“As a former prosecutor, Vincent has seen what families and victims go through and he has worked with law enforcement to hold criminals accountable and achieve justice,” Sheheen’s campaign manager Andrew Whalen said. “This dishonest ad by Nikki Haley’s D.C. friends is a disgusting and desperate attempt to distract from children being abused and dying because of the reckless leadership at Haley’s Department of Social Services.”

“Nikki Haley is playing politics with the lives of children and refuses to hold her administration accountable for these totally preventable tragedies,” Whalen added. “The fact that Haley’s supporters are willing to do almost anything to distract from the fatal outcomes of her failed leadership says all we need to know about Nikki Haley.”
Details on the size and placement of the GOP advertising buy were not immediately available, but the national party has vowed to spend big money to keep Haley in office.
After nearly rebounding from a 21-point deficit against Haley in 2010, Sheheen has been running an abysmal race this go-round. Most notably, he’s failed to find a way to get to the right of the increasingly liberal Haley on the bread and butter fiscal issues voters care about.
In addition to Haley and Sheheen, fiscally conservative Libertarian Steve French will also be on the ballot in November.
French’s campaign has criticized both candidates over their failure to protect children, saying “protecting the innocent is one of the few things Steve thinks the government should do and the state is failing.”

This is a total cheap shot at Sheheen. I am far from a fan, though I may haltingly wind up voting for him as a lesser of evils this time, but a lawyer’s job is to protect the interests of his client. If Sheheen (or any other lawyer) is hired by someone to represent their interests, then his job is to protect them.

I don’t, GT. Where did I say child molesting and murder are OK? Do you have any idea just how easy it is to get a CDV charge on you in SC, even if you did absolutely nothing? Ask most cops, if you can get them to speak candidly and without fear of it coming back to hurt their career, and they will tell you that their worst enemy in CDV cases 99% of the time is the woman who will lie, fail to show up for court, or anything else she can do to short-circuit the CDV case because she was quick to call 911 when she was pissed off with him, but now that she figured out that he is her meal ticket and they have made up, she doesn’t want anything done to him. They will choose a bad boy because they think its cute to have one, but when they cannot control him, they want the police to do it for them, only they will not back up the cops when it is time to go to court. For the ones who use the police and the system as a tool to get revenge on their spouse or boyfriend, he better have a good attorney or he will pay for pissing her off for the rest of his life.

You’re conflating the possibility that one might be maliciously accused of a violent act, with actual dangerous elements that Vincent Sheheen has successfully represented and gotten minimal punishment. People that should be locked away for a long time. Do we need to go through Isiah Outten’s illustrious criminal career? This is not a choir boy falsely accused.
Bottom line, Jay; our system of justice provides for representation by an attorney for criminal offenses. This is not conditional upon whether we believe the accused to be guilty or innocent, but that he or she is accused and is therefore entitled to legal representation. If you have a problem with the sentence or lack of sentence handed out, your anger would more appropriately be directed to the judge or the prosecutor who allowed for that to happen, NOT the attorney who is doing his job to the best of his ability.
I’m not angry at him, unless one of these cretins that he’s freed harms one of my children, I would just never vote for someone willing to got to bat for these worthless individuals. Then your anger would be misplaced. As a defense attorney he can’t free anyone. All he can do is represent the defendant and fight for his/her best interests. The prosecutor is the one responsible for fighting for the victim’s best interests. If he successfully convinces a judge and prosecutor that a minimal sentence is best, then he has done his job. If he has argued the case well and his client is sentenced to life without parole, he has done his job here too.
A defense attorney who puts the victim’s interests ahead of his or her client is negligent and certainly not someone I would want representing me at any level.

That said, when you really need one, you will be damn glad to get one who fights for you and your interests, whether it is a criminal, civil, or divorce case. Paying lawyers doesn’t mean charges get dropped. Bad cases cause charges to be dropped. Good cops don’t make bad cases… but juries have been known to make some assinine decisions.

If he was complicit in helping a bank hide millions of assets or in helping some wealthy person get off on a DUI charge or in bringing an overinflated claim for a personal injury or in sticking it to some bitch in a divorce, would you want him representing South Carolina? Twenty years as a cop, and I have NO issue with criminal defense lawyers. If anything, a good defense lawyer makes my job easier, and often results in guilty pleas rather than expensive, time- consuming trials to reach the same results. Sorry, telling me Sheheen does his job right only makes me that much more sure he’s better than Darlin’ Nikki.

A lot of these domestic abuse cases boil down to he said / she said arguments. My X slut (and yes – I eventually busted the slut/whore committing adultery with SIX different men – but at least she got a good case of genital herpes for her acts) loudly noted to neighbors and folks at church that my children were scared of me and I physically and mentally abused both them and her (all complete lies in her decrepit mind to destroy me).
Fortunately, the local sheriff’s deputy in charge of the investigation of her charges asked her about the adultery charges and the dumbass actually admitted to having a special friend. He also caught her going back and changing medical records. And amazingly, there was an MD here in Columbia that was dumb enough to marry that slut. I was advised by my attorney to start recording ALL conversations between me and her – she even started showing up with bruises and I would ask her where they came from (on tape) and she noted she did not know.
This X slut/whore wanted to destroy me and get me kicked out of the house that I had paid for. Luckily for me, my attorney told me that I did not have to move out and if the slut/whore wanted a divorce, she would have to move out (otherwise, if I moved out, I would essentially lose the house).
It would be interesting to see how many of these cases that Sheheen had were paid clients and how many were based on Court appointed cases.

When the Sheriff’s Deputy determined that the charges were false, I asked him to press charges against her and they refused noting that they would clog up the local courts with all of the false domestic abuse charges that they record.
So would I be happy with Sheheen or any other attorney representing my best interests in this type of trumped up and false charges. ABSOLUTELY.

Description of Offense from Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department:
Disturbing School: That Isiah Junior Outten did in Kershaw County on or about October 13, 1999, willfully disturb a school, to wit: the defendant fought with another in the rear parking lot at Camden High School.
Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor: That on November 13, 1999 between 8:50PM. and 11:00 PM. the defendant Isiah Outten Jr. did knowingly and willfully allow or give a child (A.J. and B.C.) some Icehouse beer and some marijuana in which he engaged her to be involved in a violation of the law and did so deport himself as to willfully injure or endanger her morals or health or the morals or health of others. This incident took place in the Pickett Thomas Acres Camden. In Kershaw County South Carolina. Witnesses and statements to prove the same.
The defendant Isiah Junior Outten did open the door to a 1988 white in color jeep Cherokee SC tag 816-EED, while at 506 DeKalb St. within the city limits of Camden, and invited minor children (A.J. and B.C.), into the vehicle to leave the area without the children’s parents’ permission, with the intent to commit a crime therein. Investigation by the Camden Police Department, statement to prove the same.
Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor 2nd Degree: That on November 13, 1999 between 8:50PM. And 11:00PM. the defendant Isiah Outten Jr. did engage in sexual battery by having sexual intercourse with a child (A.J.), the victim between eleven and fourteen years old, and the defendant more than three years older than her. This incident took place in the woods in Pickett Thomas Acres Camden, in Kershaw County South Carolina. Witnesses and statements to prove the same.
On January 18, 2000, with Vincent Sheheen named as his defense attorney Outten pled guilty to disturbing school; contributing to the delinquency of a minor and criminal sexual conduct with a minor 2nd degree.
· Outten was sentenced to 10 years time.
· Outten’s sentence was negotiated to 38 days time already served and 5 years probation.
Outten was arrested multiple times while still on probation, including but not limited to:
· On May 28, 2002, for contributing to the delinquency of a minor by allowing her to have beer.
· Outten was arrested in a hotel room with a thirteen year old female, fourteen year old female and sixteen year old female
· On August 31, 2002 for public disorderly conduct.
· Outten was arrested in a hotel room with a 14 year old juvenile and alcohol present.
· On October 23, 2002 for failure to register address as a sex offender.
· On February 19, 2003, for possession of alcohol by a minor.
· On March 26, 2003, for being found in the possession of an altered urine sample with the attempt to defraud a drug test.
· On June 16, 2004, for possession of cocaine within proximity of a school in Lexington County.
· On February 23, 2005, for assault and battery.
In 2006 Outten again pled guilty to and sex offender registry violation, fail to register and manufacture, distribution, etc. of cocaine base (Kershaw County Fifth Judicial Circuit Public Index, publicindex.sccourts.org/kershaw/publicindex/, Accessed 11/16/13)
In 2008, Outten was featured on WIS’ Midlands’ Most Wanted list after being accused of hitting a man in the face with a crowbar. “West Columbia police say Isiah Outten has turned himself in. He is accused of a hitting a man in the face with a crowbar in November. Police say Outten agreed to turn himself in right after the incident, but did not do it until after he was featured on the Midlands’ Most Wanted.” (“Isiah Outten,” WIS, Accessed 11/26/13)
Who was the prosecuting attorney that agreed with the punishment of time served and 5 years probation in the case you describe above? This is the person toward whom your disgust should be directed. Perhaps you, or the record, may have omited pertinent information that could illuminate why the initial punishment was so light? Or have simply concluded that Mr. Sheheen is just that great of a defense attorney?
I can almost bet that Sheheen represented this POS because he was a the court appointed attorney as the public defender. If you look at the public index record for Kershaw County for him, I saw where he had 3 different attorneys. So when your number gets picked, you have to do your duty (I believe as a Court appointed attorney). Again as I noted above, it all comes down to did Sheheen actually get paid to defend this POS and also looking at his record, this was just the first of numerous charges against Outten.
No doubt, but again, Sheheen knew the type of people he would be representing when he signed up. Says a lot about his own character and morality.
It does not – when you are licensed to practice a certain area of law and if you want to continue to practice, when your number is drawn, you are required to represent – actually, I think by him choosing to represent this guy and represent him as best he can says a lot as well. Let me assure you that I am NOT any type of fan of attorneys. But at the same time, there is not much of a difference between at least Sheheen or Haley – what I have learned from adulterous sluts is that they are massive liars – even my former sister in law labeled my X as probably one of the best liars east of the Mississippi River. Do I watch Fox News – yes – Do I watch MSNBC – yes – why both – because the truth is somewhere in between their babble. AND THE SOONER that the 99% or Tea Party figure that out and get rid of absolutely every incumbent, the better off we will all be. You aren’t licensed to practice a certain type of law. You are licensed to practice law. Any attorney who represents at least three criminal defendants a year can be picked to defend someone accused of a crime. I don’t know if Vincent Sheheen was the court appointed attorney or if he was paid because I don’t care. Everyone accused of a crime has the right to counsel under the Sixth Amendment. When Vincent Sheheen was sworn into the South Carolina bar, he pledged to protect and defend the Constitution. Representing a criminal defendant is part of protecting and defending the Constitution.
Perhaps Nikki Haley should start focusing on defending her record in office, particularly her DSS scandal.

Many of these deaths are suspicious and now under investigation.

SCOTUS Chief Justice Roberts defended, on appeal, a Florida man, John Ferguson, convicted of murdering 8 people. Following the logic of the RGA ad, Roberts is not fit to sit on the Supreme Court.
President John Adams, before he was President, defended the British troops who were accused of killing five civilians in what became known as the Boston Massacre. The soldiers were arrested and Adams defended them at trial even though his taking the case went against popular opinion. The troops could not find another attorney who was willing to put principle before public opinion. Since when is criminal defense work a disqualification for serving as Governor or President? Never before in our history and not now.
This ad is vile and repugnant because it is an attack on the Sixth Amendment right to counsel as well as the entire criminal justice system. Chief Justice John Roberts once represented a defendant in a capital case who admittedly killed 8 people. Does that disqualify him from the Supreme Court?
