AND THE PALMETTO STATE CAN LEAST AFFORD IT …
Gas prices in South Carolina have climbed by 12 cents per gallon over the last two weeks …. and while the Palmetto State still has some of the cheapest fuel in America, that’s not helping its mostly dirt poor residents.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in South Carolina currently stands at $3.46 – up from $3.34 on April 6.
In mid-March, a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.22.
South Carolina currently has the seventh-lowest gas prices in America – well below the national average of $3.66 – but as we’ve repeatedly pointed out our state’s chronically low income levels result in residents paying a greater percentage of their earnings on fuel. In fact South Carolinians rank second only to Mississippians when it comes to the percentage of their budget that gets poured into the gas tank.
Not good …
Gas in South Carolina averaged $3.24 per unleaded gallon in 2013 – down from $3.35 in 2012 (but up from its 2010 average of $2.60). It could soon climb above the $3.60 mark.
Despite these numbers, “Republicans” led by S.C. Senators Hugh Leatherman (RINO-Florence) and Ray Cleary (RINO-Horry) want to impose a whopping 125 percent increase in the state’s gasoline tax, hoping to hike it from 16 to 36 cents over a ten year period beginning in 2015.
Other “Republican” lawmakers are reportedly planning to introduce similar increases …
These lawmakers claim South Carolina needs more money to fix its “crumbling roads and bridges,” but as this website has repeatedly demonstrated our state’s problem is NOT the exorbitant amount of money it spends on highway infrastructure – it’s the bloated, inefficient and corrupt bureaucracy administering our system.
Thankfully moderate S.C. Rep. Bakari Sellers (D-Bamberg) – who is running for lieutenant governor – has vowed to block this increase, championing a long-overdue delineation and prioritization of state highway dollars.
We oppose the gas tax hike – and support Sellers in his efforts to reform the system (and actually achieve modest gas tax relief). As with so many other fiscal issues, South Carolina doesn’t have a revenue problem when it comes to infrastructure – it has a spending problem.
What are gas prices like in your area? Feel free to post your experiences in our comments section below …

The cry for higher taxes to fix roads and bridges is an elaborate ruse. The only thing that is crumbling is SC’s ability to pay for the over 400,000 state employees healthcare plans and retiree pensions. This is the real reason for calls of higher taxes or fees to create revenue. Hostess went bankrupt, the USPS is technically bankrupt, General Motors went bankrupt, entire states, cities, and counties are bankrupt or soon to be all because of unfunded pension and healthcare promises. SC is chasing two rabbits and will catch none.
What’s up, Doc? (panting and said in winded voice . . .)
Little disingenuous on your part, the 400K number includes all covered persons to include spouses and dependents. The actual number of employees is 171K and 73K retirees. Also you should note that counties, municipalities and school districts among a host of other public agencies participate in the state health plan, so not all the 171K are “state employees” (http://www.eip.sc.gov/aboutus/). Of the 171K covered less than half (approximately 58K) are actual employees of the state.
But I get it, you’re trying to cast the specter of big government run amok so why not spin the statistics in your favor?
In the infantile wisdom of the Feds it is not included in COLA, wonder why that is?
Been to the grocery store lately?
To avoid the gasoline price rip-off, plug your Tesla S electric car into your household, solar array.
Have you looked outside this morning, the batteries have stopped charging.
Check the warranty.
Warranty said I should drive to the dealership for warranty work. Ran out of power when I pulled out of the garage, now what? Can’t afford to call a tow truck because car payments are too high and household solar array cost have depleted my savings..
Nothing will get better, only worse…until we purge Obama and the democrats…
Get the Senate, back, with a SOLID majority…and bolster the House w/ Conservatives…and you will see some of the Takers (democrats and oil speculators and regulators) begin to recede…prices for everything will do down…
Energy producers know the democrats use energy to attack the people, and they are all for Taking your Money, any way they can…
People are suffering. The Takers (democrats and oil speculators and regulators) don’t care. They just want to Feed their Greed.
The “gas spike” has been on since the Obummer Misrepresentation got voted in by the idiots…$1.89 per gallon in Jan 2009 and $3.50 today. How that for “hope and change”? Of course, right on cue yesterday, Obummer punted (again) on Keystone XL thanks to liberal crony capitalist billionaire Tom Steyer handing this lawless bunch $100 million to delay any decision until – wait for it – AFTER the elections. Sound familiar? All far-left loony politics and nothing for what’s in the best interest of the country. Meanwhile, keep forking over that cash to drive your cars because of the complete lack of any coherent energy policy – to go along with the lack of any coherent domestic policy, foreign policy, fill-in-the-blank policy – coming from this incompetent Misrepresentation.
You beat me to the punch.
There’s plenty left…
once again the right wing ignores facts..the facts are the highest national average was during the later part of the Bush years but irrelevant as the President, regardless of parties, has almost nothing to do with gas prices..unless of course you invade Middle Eastern countries..but hey dont let facts get in the way of sweet delusions,…speaking of I hear Obama was responsible for the Challenger explosion.
I guess you forgot that fracking happened during his administration, and that drove prices for natural gas from double digits to single digits.
I try to avoid the vitriolic attacks on Obama that others engage in, but his latest non decision on the Keystone pipeline is the most disgustingly transparent political irresponsibility of his corrupt administration.
Here is how the liberal NY Times reported it. “Both supporters and opponents of the pipeline criticized the delay as a political ploy aimed at punting the final call on the divisive project until after the midterm election November…… But approving the pipeline before the election could staunch the flow of money from liberal donors and fund-raisers who oppose the project, like Tom Steyer, a California billionaire.”
The only reason Obama has been able to delay this decision is because it crosses an international boundary. The EPA has approved it and only the compensation for land owners is yet to be determined by the courts.Every single government agency has given the go ahead except the State Dept. Taking advantage of Easter weekend ( distracted public and vacationing journalist ) exposes Obama for the coward he is.
You do?Could have fooled md.oure just a typical Right Wing extremist that re gurgitates the same ol same ol Republican line.Whether one is for or against the Keystone pipe line has NOTHING to do with gas prices in SC or anywhere else for that matter.
I “regurgitated” the opinion of both sides as reported by the NYT. That is not extremist. I’m a proud SC native but am an American first and want what is best for America. What is best for this country is best for SC.
Keystone alone will have very little impact on prices, but fracked natural gas and difficult to extract oil throughout the world will effect prices.
There are other reasons to support Keystone.
1. Jobs for building it and for refineries.
2. Canadian tar sands oil is already being sent by rail and truck. This is less safe to the environment and man due to accidents. But Canada is seeking a safer cheaper pipeline south to the US or West to the pacific.
3. Pipelines aalso have much less carbon emissions than trucks and railroads.
4. Some of this oil will be exported as higher valued gasoline, which will reduce our trade deficit.
5. Finally, we will be less dependent on the middle east and Venezuela for oil.
5. Oil is fungible.
I’m pleased that you agree with all my other points.
2. The continental aquifer is not in more danger than if the pipeline were to rupture.
http://www.dailynebraskan.com/endowment/article_2b26fc40-a547-11e2-9605-001a4bcf6878.html
The 15 to 20 percent left, Goeke says, is in very little risk thanks to abundant fine-grain clays, sediment and sandstone separating the aquifer and potential contaminants from the pipeline.
While Goeke agrees 20 percent would be a problem, he thinks the chances of a leak reaching the aquifer are very minimal.
——
uh… fuck him, and his “informed” opinion and “the chances”
Besides, even this crazy old fuck would rather a truck or trainload spill than the pipeline burst over the aquifer with his non-peer reviewed “research” of the “remaining 20%”… his scholarly treatise doesn’t affect the relative danger of one over the other.
The danger from a spill is minuscule compared to agricultural chemicals. Also, why not accept the opinion of Obama administration’s EPA.
There are already numerous oil and gas Pipelines across the Ogallala aquifer.
http://www.energytrendsinsider.com/2011/10/18/newsflash-pipelines-are-everywhere/
The danger from a spill is minuscule compared to agricultural chemicals.
——-
ah… so how many quadrillion metric tons of concentrated agricultural chemicals are spilled in one location over the aquifer?
Doesn’t that *increase* rather than *decrease* the danger to the aquifer?
Isn’t that like saying “why believe in Christ? We’re sinners – we’ll try to be good, and end up in hell anyway!”
Since BP Horizon, you can never say there are no risks. You have weigh risks and benefits of the pipeline against the risks of not building it. The weight of the evidence is in favor. The Democratic politics is against it.
You have not commented

I can read books, just like you can – but Damn, Tango – I can’t hear what they’re thinking. You do realize that’s the first stage of paranoia, right?
Nowruz Oil Field (1983) ( Even though cleanup had t wait until the end of the war ) “The largest oil spill the world has seen exacted little permanent damage on coral ecosystems and local fisheries, according to a report by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission at Unesco. The study concluded that about half the oil evaporated, one-eighth of it was recovered and another quarter washed ashore, mostly in Saudi Arabia”. – Popular Mechanics
How do you weigh acceptable risks?
Do you want to give up oil altogether?
care to speculate on what the damage would have been if it had been over the aquifer?
I haven’t seen the risk analysis – have you?
Peer review is BS and just about everyone knows it at this point. If your science doesn’t agree with the reviewers world view you are toast before it’s ever submitted. This guy knows more about the aquifer than anyone else in the state of Nebraska and owns land on that get’s water from it. He’s got skin in the game so I’ll take his opinion over the enviro-wacko’s that are anti-energy any day of the week.

Exxon et. al. certainly paid enough for that opinion for everyone to accept it on faith.
If your science doesn’t agree with the reviewers world view you are toast before it’s ever submitted.

Tobacco, Pot, Alcohol, Porn, Guns… all junk science.. and there are grants to prove it.
This guy knows more about the aquifer than anyone else in the state of Nebraska and owns land on that get’s water from it.

That’s good enough for me… I’ll bet my kids life on that jackass… since he’s wearing overalls, and looks like he’s been sitting in front of a feed store all his life, that pretty much cements it for me.

How do you know he doesn’t have a brain pump in his basement he’s been working on since his pappy showed him the plans when he was a kid?

He looks pretty damn qualified to me. He’s been awarded research grants and none of them look like they were funded by any fossil fuel concerns. Point being this guy knows the system.
Oh and judgmental on looks much? I thought progressives didn’t judge people by looks.

First of all, we already elected Bush twice for looking like that… and I thought “knowing the system” was a bad thing.
Oh and judgmental on looks much? I thought progressives didn’t judge people by looks.
——–
Exactly… I’m not going to accept his opinion based on “looks”
He’s been awarded grants? I know what’s involved in that… I was involved in applying for a grant to put a wireless transmitter in the body of a rat to transmit a signal representing the level of pain the rat was experiencing, and dispense pain medication.. lots of medical uses for it… if you can show you can do it with a prototype, they’ll let you do it – you don’t have to be a PHD or be published or anything… people support themselves doing nothing else.
Goeke picked up his phone and called TransCanada, firing off every relevant question he could think of. After all, he knew what he was asking about. He has drilled more holes, a process that holds great importance in a range of scientific and economic decisions, in the Ogallala Aquifer than any other person.
He said TransCanada could answer every question and was honest and forthcoming. That didn’t immediately quiet all his reluctance, so he continued his research until he came to a conclusion: The Keystone XL pipeline is not a serious threat to the Ogallala Aquifer.
“A lot of people in the debate about the pipeline talk about how leakage would foul the water and ruin the entire water supply in the state of Nebraska and that’s just a false,” he said.
——
I want to see his entire presentation, and I’d like to hear some critical analysis of his key points. Wouldn’t you?
Or is that enough for you?
You do remember the bp oil spill, and all the experts that said that the chances of an oil spill were slim to none with their technology that would seal the well.. and their… ahem… plan b?
Oil is fungible in free market conditions, but in a national emergency or another oil embargo like in the 70’s, it is not so fungible.
Ok… so you admit, it won’t have any affect on prices, but you threw in a little fear mongering to replace it.
“Keystone alone will have very little impact on prices” my quote from above. We have already experienced one oil embargo. I don’t think preparation is fear mongering. The president sees the danger. That is why he keeps strategic reserves and refused to release them.
You are the fear monger. Exaggerating the danger to the aquifer from a pipeline accident and it’s risk of occurring.
“Keystone alone will have very little impact on prices”
…sorry dude.. I was editing when you saw that…
reread my edited post.
as for fear mongering…. do you want to wake up to the smoking gun of a mushroom cloud?
Not so fungible.
——
Are you advocating socializing the oil industry?
No but during WWII there were ration stamps and during the oil embargo there were price controls and even/odd license plate sales on even/odd days.
compare/contrast that with poisoning the aquifer.
So how do you suppose we will take the shale oil from the Canadians, and use it exclusively for ourselves? What if Canada is on the enemy’s side?
We are rushing headlong into becoming the “bad guy,” you know.
You are getting ridiculous. They need us to refine it. They have enough for themselves and us. Canada Enemies! ha!. Besides we could take over Alberta in three days or less.
You are getting ridiculous. They need us to refine it.
——-
I’m ridiculous? If we don’t allow the pipeline, who will refine it? THINK [stabbing temple with index finger for emphasis]. OUR ENEMIES!
Besides we could take over Alberta in three days or less
——–
Exactly what I mean. Might as well do that anyway. Why become dependent on their good will when we have the power to take what we want? Like all that oil we got from those weaklings in Iraq.
Sorry should have used ; – )
Poe’s law
No apology necessary, you know I *need* that kind of thing… or I can’t *go off*… how else can I get a good rant on and show the total absurdity of the situation?
Republicans have made parody of extremism into support of their platform… and made Bush a pariah at the same time!
5. it won’t have any affect on our dependency on foreign oil
There are foreigners, then there are foreigners. Canadians are friendly and NATO allies.
Just how long do you think that Canada is going to put up with us? Did they join us in the Iraq war?
What makes you think we even WANT to be the “good guy” anymore?
*They* are massing at our border, as we write!!!!!!!!
We should go into Canada and support the Americans living there, claim the land back for them to live on… and Mexico… and if they won’t let us… liebensraum!
Since when did our nuclear weapons become like mother’s fine China?
…what the fuck… I’m going out and buying another gun with the rent money! My lberal wife can burn in hell!!
That’s our land anyway… and besides the Canadians are *French*!
The real problem is that if we aren’t sure, we won’t “get over it” if we get a bad enough spill over the aquifer.. there’s just no coming back from that… we only have one. It’s not the Gulf of Mexico.. .it’s not Alaska, or off the shore of France… it’s like disarming a hydrogen bomb… how sure do you have to be before cutting the blue wire?
Some guy comes out of the crowd and says “don’t worry – go ahead and cut it! I’m sure you have the right wire! Hurry up.. time is money!”
Enough about the guy in the article. The State Department wrote an eleven volume report that found no reason to oppose it. Six different federal agencies have given the go ahead.
You will not even discuss the politics. That is the only thing holding up this project.
Enough about the guy in the article.
——
Thank God!
The State Department wrote an eleven volume report that found no reason to oppose it.
——-
More forcefully… the Department of State revealed on June 24, 2013 that “Neither Cardno ENTRIX nor TransCanada ever submitted GIS information to the Department of State, nor was either corporation required to do so.” It remains unclear how the Department of State has determined environmental impacts for the project without this essential information. The Department of State’s report recommended neither acceptance nor rejection.
On March 22, 2012, Obama endorsed the building of the southern segment (Gulf Coast Extension or Phase III) that begins in Cushing, Oklahoma. The President said in Cushing, Oklahoma, on March 22, “Today, I’m directing my administration to cut through the red tape, break through the bureaucratic hurdles, and make this project a priority, to go ahead and get it done
On January 22, 2014 the Gulf Coast Extension (phase III) was opened.
The president had no say about the other phases. EPA had to follow the law and regulations for the other approvals. Because this phase crosses an international boundary, his approval is required. Politics, Politics, Politics!
Why hasn’t the President made a decision? IT HAS BEEN FIVE YEARS!

P… P… Po… Poe… Poep… People.
Can’t seem to do it.
maybe try some research for a change..here i will help..look up Nebraska and Keystone pipeline..you’re welcome.
I tell you what. I’ll accept the research and the opinion of the Obama administration’s EPA.
WHAT ABOUT YOU!!
I’ll take the word of some old geezer who claims he made a couple of phone calls, and is a certifiable (not certified) expert.
It appears most people take what fits their arguments.

How have you been seriously injured?
how do you think I got this way?
But how, to get the way you are you could have forgotten you helmet and fallen off your tricycle as a child.
I was pushed off… by a Republican!
So was it the Republican that made you not put on your helmet?
He tore it off my head first… told me I needed to take more risks!
Now I know you’re not being truthful, you would never admit a Republican got the better of you.
I never got over it.
That’s obvious.

Always.
This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body
Sounds good. Meanwhile a lot other people will be making sure you have all the oil, gas and electricity you need to enjoy all those things. Others will be growing and producing all your food and clothing and transporting it to a convenient distance from your home. Others will be providing police, fire and ambulatory protection should you need it. Enjoy yourself.

Walt Whitman doesn’t sound as good as Jesus.
Just in case you forgot: TL;DR
Matthew 5-7 (King James Version)
5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
6 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Yeah and I’ll be still paying too much damn taxes!
Republicans feel your pain, Mr. Koch… they’re doing all they can.

Just in case you forgot:
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

When I read that: Matt 5-7
“It feeeels like the first time.
It feels like the very first time.”
Whenever I read that passage, l whence when I get to the verse about plucking out your eye. Sounds like I disapprove, but I’m sure Jesus’ original audience in Galilee whenced also when they heard it “for the very first time”.
I can imagine Jesus surveying the crowd at this moment. He would be able to detect their attentiveness by the uncomfortable shifting in the crowd.
God bless you this Easter.
May the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Spring, Eostre….
I am, and have been, very blessed… by family… by strangers… and by the living water.
LMAO! but appreciate it.
May the spirit of God move within you and make you a liberal for Christ, and from your belly spring living water from which all who hear you may quench their thirst.
Christ is liberal, faith and obedience is voluntary.
Liberal in charity, conservative in entitlement.
Because government is compulsory, in politics I’m conservative.
.
Christ is liberal, faith and obedience is voluntary.
——
obedience is only voluntary if you don’t want life. God will allow you to do anything that physics won’t prohibit… .and so will the state – though the state may present some physical obstacles in your way to protect the innocent…. but in both cases, there are consequences for disobedience.
Liberal in charity, conservative in entitlement. Be ye perfect, even as God is perfect.
——-
God is the original grantor of undeserved entitlement.
Because government is compulsory, in politics I’m conservative.
——-
obviously, you have a problem with working in a team, under authority.
I can imagine Jesus surveying the crowd at this moment. He would be able to gauge their attentiveness by the uncomfortable shifting in the crowd.

When they realized he was serious… they were sitting atop their temples… watching the approaching army afar off… calculating their chances.
And all this time I thought it was Hungarian for slide.
Nah… it’s haxorz for “told you so” .. akin to Redneck djaeatjet?
Like that edit button do you? I know I’m glad it’s there.
Couldn’t live without it… but I don’t use it for evil.
Didn’t know the edit button was evil, thanks for the info.
If u edit so that a reply no longer makes sense, that is evil.
I don’t know that it’s evil, it’s more like a talking point, misleading.
That too…. only not as evil.
after you lose the argument, you change your reply… that’s evil.
So that’s why you paste my replies into yours. You think I’m evil.
Nah… I don’t think you’re.. well, no more evil than any other Republican…
Voltaire?
No! He is a French philosopher not God. ;-)
Yeah, Jesus’ sermon on the mount is much more liberal than Walt Whitman!

16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
Ha!
Gas was $ 1.80 a gallon when muslim ‘brother’hood Obama took office.Keystone Pipeline decision is just his latest move tooooo destroy our economy (aka Obamacare).
Good thing is he just sealed that bit$$ Mary ‘dyke’ Landrovomits fate in Louisiana. And Hagan. And Pryor AND any other democratic senator running for re-election in 2014.
Let’s not mention Bush, ok… let’s just let the black man try to clean up the mess… [chuckle]…. they’ll probably completely forget the Bush administration, the reasons for the bailout and how it affected the economy.
Shhhhh
oh… uh… yeah.. Voltaire…. paired up the messages wrong… can you.. can you.. overlook this… small transgression… I.. my.. the.. “Ha” might not have been what one would have liked… in retrospect…
I had originally intended to write “If there were no God, Republicans would create one.” .. and then I forgot.. and then I didn’t get back to edit it.
And In his own image, too!
I know it’s Easter and everything, but is today a good day for chess? This website is a sure thing: en.lichess.org
ok. Five minute games?
http://lichess.org/8ESSCW1f
Had to run an errand. I’m good now. You ready?
ready
Obama like his sister Governor Haley has been a total disaster. The Keystone pipeline is just the latest in an ongoing list of indecisive decisions and decisions which weaken our Country and harm everyone, plus future generations more than we are able to calculate.
With obama at the National Helm and Ohaley at the helm of our State, we are totally screwed!
Obama should have NEVER been given a second term! Let’s not make the same mistake with Ohaley!
I can only fear the outcom; because, the future is inconceivable and unimaginabley scary with these two.
The reason no decision has been made is cause’ his buddy Warren Buffet take a hit on his railroads when Keystone is up and running.
The Devil laughs out loud when you confess your timidity in calling out Obama for what, and who, he is…
You don’t have the right, and we cannot afford, for people who know better, to cower from the truth, just so you can “feel good” for pleasing liberals, and the media…
You can blame yourself, partially anyway, for the mess this nation is in. You McCain and Romney, were scared…so America suffers for your fear, and your need to be liked by bad people…
Use E-85, you will fill up for less but it will cost you more to get to you destination.
Sellers is a sell-out. He’s running to the middle as fast as he can to try to get elected because he knows his chances are slim to none. That’s why he’s getting FITS to pimp him. He ought to run with an R behind his name.
Ripoff plain and simple, raise taxes, run pipelines ,drill more, let them drill off the coast, frack more ,pass more laws so all these big company’s can buy off the politicians, these oil prices affect everything in the economy and they want to know why the economy is so bad. Where is the gas tax money that’s being took in everyday?, It sure is not being spent on roads ,How do you know if they raised the taxes where the money is going to go? Why are we exporting oil over seas? If you run pipeline to the gulf its going to be shipped out of the country.Same thing with drilling more. These Oil cos. are in the drivers seat With no price controls what so ever and no politician going against them! Now the electric cars are going to have an extra property tax increase put on them, the same with cars that get high gas mileage so how can you win ? Now beef prices are going to go out the roof because we are exporting it to China. Tell me how our Government is looking out for us.
Agree!
He who makes the rules wins. And, who makes the rules? The elected idiots!
We vote for them and reelect them over and over. They have an insatiable thirst for their boondoggles and pork barrel projects. So, they need more and more of our money to use. Their thirst for our bank accounts cannot be quinched. They need the tax dollars to buy their votes, with their special interest, and to fund their junkets, retirements, benefits and to make their friends and families rich!
We are a mere pawn in their game and are too stupid to realize it. We will continue to reelect them and treat them as royalty, until they are convinced they are and indenture us and our children for eons, until we wake up!
They cater to their special interest, grease their palms with our tax dollars, then take their political contributions to pay for ads (propaganda), mailings, (propaganda), come around with handshakes and smiles, kissing babies to buy our votes. We swallow it HOOK, LINE and SINKER and reelect them to our detriment over and over! It is the definition of insanity!
The KXL will do little to nothing to lower gas prices. Nor will it create the “thousands” of jobs that have been claimed. In fact it may have the opposite effect on gas prices. We have recently become a net exporter of gasoline and prices have gone up due to demand from other countries like China. But I do find it quite funny that the “Republicans” of SC want to raise taxes. But the working poor will pay the bulk of those taxes. So why would they care? As long as it doesn’t effect their corporate masters, they’ll keep getting the bible thumping idiots to vote them into office, simply by keeping up the anti-gay and anti-“libral” rhetoric.
RINOS, They will never raise gas tax. Demos support it more than RINOS.
If Obama was not lying…his minions would not have to try so hard to ‘splain his lies…over and over…
We know what you are…quit trying to spin it…
In other words: You can’t keep your plan if you like it…and it will not cost less…Your god is a liar…and we know it…
HEY WILL!
Let’s have a poll for preference of: Libertarians, Liberals, Tea Party, Conservative, RINO, and plain Republican.
Do you dare?
your polls never have enough entries!
Don’t forget Progressive. That’s a name liberals like to hide behind.
pussies.
Religious kook…another name for Bible thumper. Why arent you in Church anyway?
Just like gays embrace Queer and fag to remove the sting, I embrace Bible Thumper. I don’t get in people’s face with my religious views, but they inform my political views. I have no problem voting for someone of another faith. Voted for a Mormon.
Voted for a Mormon.
——-
Why did you forsake Christ?
Christ paid taxes to a pagan government that maintained an built idols.
Christ didn’t vote for Caesar.
He did it pretty subversively though…he conjured up a coin out of a fishes mouth…he didn’t actually have to sweat to pay the tax and he also at the same time paid someone else’s tax. That says something right there.
Let’s not forget the context either:
“25He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
26Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.” (KJV)
Lot’s of good stuff under the current there…especially with the word “free” at the end. Some translations say “exempt”, I’ve always been curious about that specific word translation variation.
Interesting. Also
Mark 12: 17 Render to Caesar…
Go make dinner ‘fly’ and change mommy’s diaper! Hell , it stinks down here on the marshwalk.
huh?
What do you mean hide behind. Liberal and Conservative are not really good descriptors. Because people who call themselves Conservative are not conservative on everything and people who call themselves Liberals are not liberal on everything. In fact Conservatives can’t even all agree on what it means to be conservative. I think Progressives and Regressives are much more accurate ways to describe the population.
Progressives embrace change. They believe the future can be better and that we can make it better for everyone if we work together. Their weakness is they tend to bleed from the heart a little. They are willing to pay higher taxes if it means everyone can live a litter better life. They are not as money driven as life style driven. The believe government can be both good and bad. That it is what we make it and that we can change it. They believe everyone can be improved, and that with proper education and opportunity all people can thrive, be happy and productive. They believe that we should be able to communicate and coexist with people of other cultures. They are very tolerant of the beliefs of others and the life style of others.
Regressives think things have changed too much already. Society wise, they think things were better in the past, at least 19th century and in some instances 18th century. The don’t think people can work together to make things better for everyone, and they have no particular desire to see things better for everyone. They think it should be every man for himself and that they are capable of taking care of themselves. They think they are being taken advantage of by lots of people, who they perceive don’t think like they do or have the same work ethic they do. They believe government is mostly evil. They believe there are many cultures we cannot coexist with and should not try to. They believe certain groups of people are basically worthless, will never be a productive part of society, and that we should not waste our money on them. They don’t think they should have to pay any tax that they do not believe benefits them directly. They believe our culture is superior and that diversity is folly. They believe the we need to return to a class structure more indicative of the past, where those with wealth have more control because they are smarter. They believe a lack of a traditional class structure is causing society to fall apart.
There may be some disagreement but I think that sums it up.
I disagree about wanting to return to the 18th or 29th centuries. As unflattering your language is there is a degree truth. But there are true liberals who realize how unpopular that label is an use progressive instead. I certainly don’t want to be called regressive.
Below my own crude definitions from a day ago.
Democrats/liberals – My intentions were good. If the consequences of my solution to a problem are bad, I am still a good person. My guilt is relieved.
Republican/conservative – The more attractive a solution to a problem is the more people claim to have the problem. The less desirable the solution the fewer people who claim to have it and they are more likely to find their own solution to their problem. Clinton and the Republican Congress actually did this with welfare reform.
Libertarian – It’s not the government’s problem.
Not a bad idea…however don’t leave out a preference of : Hitler Youth, Stalin/Mao Party, San Francisco Brothel Roughriders, Chavez Socialists, Muslim Brotherhood for Obama , and plain Democrat.
did I forget Democrat? My bad.
up vote it if you want to know who’s reading our posts.
You idiots claim doom at every corner….but Clinton was F,*+king oblivious to 911..Muslim terrorists killed 3000 in one day… while your enviromental boogeyman men have killed none.. .but you still demand trillions in protection payoffs.. .
Paper mill cancer rates, three mile island, chernobyl, fukushima…
Not to mention that over 7,500 deaths each year are attributable to fine particle pollution from U.S. power plants.
Maybe dumbfuck Tango remembers this:
In 1996, an 8-inch-diameter steel LPG pipeline operated by Koch Pipeline Company ruptured near Lively, Texas and began leaking butane gas. The vapor cloud ignited when two residents drove their pickup truck through the flammable vapors to get to a neighbor’s house to call 9-1-1 to report the leak. The two were killed in the explosion, and approximately 25 families were later evacuated from the neighborhood without injury. An investigation conducted by the NTSB found that the pipe section which failed had not been shown to have excessive corrosion in a 1995 inspection. Regulations at the time did not provide criteria for “adequate cathodic protection.”[47] Koch also stated that the bacteria-induced corrosion acted quicker than had ever previously been recorded in the industry. The explosion was the only event of its kind in the company’s history. In 1999, a Texas jury found that negligence had led to the rupture of the Koch pipeline and awarded the victims’ families $296 million – “the largest compensatory damages judgment in a wrongful death case against a corporation in U.S. history”.
Forget about that.Dont pay any attention to this rabble rouser fellow liberty seeking conservatives! How about my taxes?Im paying too much! And look, the more money I make the more trickles down to you.You all understand Republican economics dont you?
25 African Americans were murdered in a weekend in Chicago…Yet you worship Rahm Emmanuel, the kingpin of death, as a god…
And you want to cripple the world’s productivity, because you can exploit a tragic accident…and blame it on gas???
What a Dumb@$$ solution…..
More died at Chappaquiddick than 3-mile Island and you did not say a word…
You worship Communists…and the Bass-Ackwards Communists are responsible for Chernobyl,…Not the US, who you want to pay the money for your Boogey Men…
And what the F*#k does your idiot Global Warming campaign have to do w/ a paper mills??…Are paper mills now a part of your imaginary monsters, too????
As electrical usage has increased lifespans not to mention quality of life. Air quality and water quality have improved steadily since the seventies. Electricity has reduce deaths due to house fires. There is no factor more responsible for increased lifespans and saving lives than power plants in the last 70 years.
The worst most dangerous pollution that ever existed in this country was from burning coal and wood inside the home.
Wonder if some of these people would like to go back to living in caves. My guess is most wouldn’t survive.
Libertarians want to go back to the bronze age… they seem like soulless children to me.
The worst most dangerous pollution that ever existed in this country was from burning coal and wood inside the home. 7500 deaths is a tremendous improvement from previous figures.
——-
That is, until someone publishes a paper on plutonium dust… and the yet-to-be-named chemicals we are pumping into the atmosphere by the millions of metric tons.
Statistically a very small number of deaths either way you look at it. Unfortunately in this world you have to give up something to get something. The death rates pre-industrialization were far greater than anything we can attribute to pollution. Cost vs. benefits and the benefits far out weigh the costs. Even if we have to put up with a Chernobyl or Fukishima style disaster once per generations. The benefits far out weigh the costs.
I was raised without a collar or leash too, so I know where you’re coming from. I’d rather not go through security on airplanes, or be arrested for leaving my dog in the car while I go shopping.
I’m pretty tired of everyone turning into women in this country,
too.. what ever happened to the natural smell of sweat?
The cubicle bunny mentality is ruining everything!
What FITS Will NOT tell you:
“High school senior forms petition with 1,200 signatures against Michele Obama speaking at their high school graduation….”
Hahahahaha…
Yes..Apparently Michelle Obamas’ fat ass and he entourage want tooooo boot parents and grandparents from attending their childrens graduation so the Obama’ an hold a OWS style, racist campaign rally in Topeka.
Feel bad for this girl and her family however.Wonder when the Obama Gustapo Squad will show up at their front door?
The Obamas are NOSEDIVING faster that their anointment…
Took a long time America to figure out what LIARS and Creeps they are…but at least it’s becoming obvious…
Could not happen to better people…
Boomerang 101, 404, 901
Whatever we South Carolinians save in gas taxes versus our neighbors to the north, we spend for tires, alignments, shock absorbers, etc that are the result of our crumbling, potholed and unsafe roads. One only has to drive from Hendersonville to Greenville on US 25 to see the dramatic difference.
