Richard Cash Issues Tax Day Statement

Greenville, SC – While many think of April 15th as the deadline for tax returns, U.S. Senate candidate Richard Cash has a different sense of the day this year. It was on April 15th a year ago that he announced his candidacy against the Republican establishment favorite Lindsey Graham. The upstate businessman was the first to challenge Senator Graham, who at the time was riding high in the polls and considered unbeatable. Although Graham seemed invulnerable, Cash took on the fight to replace him out of a sense of duty and calling.

Graham has become an influential figure in Washington over the last 20 years, but Cash observes that his leadership and influence has often been used to undermine conservative leadership and values.

Cash said, “Last month Sen. Graham was caught on a hot mic offering to help John Kerry undermine Speaker John Boehner. Now, it has come to light that Graham has contributed to and endorsed the moderate Republican Shane Osborn in Nebraska over against conservative favorite Ben Sasse.”

Ben Sasse has been endorsed by several conservatives groups such as the Senate Conservatives Fund, FreedomWorks, and Club for Growth. While  Sarah Palin supports Sasse, not surprisingly Osborn is supported by Graham, McCain and Mitch McConnell.

While disappointing, Cash says that this recent maneuver by Graham is nothing new and helps explain his drop in the polls. “Remember, last Fall Graham criticized and fought against Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee as they tried to defund Obamacare. Undermining conservative Republicans seems to be part of his modus operandi, and conservatives are sick of it.”  Sen. Graham faces six primary challengers on June 10th, and a poll by Winthrop University placed him at 45 percent in February.
