… SO WHY DON’T OUR LEADERS?

For years, this website has been railing against America’s failed “War on Drugs” – and arguing strenuously in favor of the decriminalization of marijuana and other drugs.

Why? Because individual liberty encompasses medical and recreational drug use – and even if you think it doesn’t, America simply cannot afford to continue imprisoning millions of people on non-violent drug charges.

Two states have legalized marijuana in recent years. Unfortunately both states are attempting to tax it to death. Meanwhile U.S. President Barack Obama – in direct contravention of his campaign promises – has been stepping up his war on medical marijuana.

Slaves to the prison-industrial complex, all of them … and the religious right, when it comes to “Republicans.”

The two-party system doesn’t get it, but Americans do …

According to the latest data from the Pew Center, 67 percent of Americans believe government should “focus more on providing treatment for those who use illegal drugs such as heroin and cocaine.” Only 26 percent “think the government’s focus should be on prosecuting users of such hard drugs.”

Hmmmm … what about option “C?” Paying for neither?

Anyway, 54 percent of Americans now support the legalization of marijuana for recreational use – compared to 42 percent who believe it should remain illegal. That’s a dramatic shift from just a decade ago, when only 32 percent favored legalization and 60 percent believed marijuana should stay illegal.

Meanwhile overwhelming majorities now view alcohol abuse as more dangerous than marijuana abuse.

Seriously … wake up, politicians. Your people are trying to tell you something. Specifically, they’re sick of you moralizing against their choices – and sick of paying the tab associated with that sanctimony.

They want you to expand freedom, reduce government and lower their tax burden by ending this failed four-decade experiment that has flushed more than $1 trillion down the drain.

Pew surveyed more than 1,800 Americans from February 14-23. To view its findings for yourself, CLICK HERE.

Senator Graham, Det Bowers, Lee Bright, Richard Cash, Bill Connor, and Nancy Mace have accepted our invitation to debate at the Aiken GOP Club’s April meeting. A panel of local TV and print journalists will pose challenging questions to the candidates.

This special event will include lunch at Newberry Hall followed by the debate, which will be held across the street, in the URS Center for the Performing Arts. The Center will give us better acoustics and lighting, as well as superior seating arrangements.

If you would like to attend this luncheon event, please email me at kgordon657@aol.com or call (803) 257-1492. The cost of the event for members is $15 and $20 for nonmembers. Registration for the meeting will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:45.

Attendees of this luncheon event can make reservations up to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 15. Cancellations also must be received by this deadline.

I LOVE women. Theya re beautiful and God made them that way….and it’s natural.

I don’t believe in perverting the male-female relationship by using women as prostitutes…But most women who smoke dope are pretty easy…I don’t need the crutch, personally…I got my own personal blunt that women become addicted to, after one hit…Sorry that you have to cheat to get what women have always gladly, and playfully, showered me with…Honesty has its own appeal…

Billionaire, “George Soros’ real crusade: Legalizing marijuana in the U.S” (Washington Times). Since the 90’s, old George has put out at least $80 million along with $40 million of his buddy, Peter B. Lewis, now deceased CEO of Progressive Insurance Co. for pot legalization.
“The pro-legalization movement hasn’t come from a groundswell of people. A great deal of its funding and fraud has been perpetrated by George Soros and then promoted by celebrities,” said John Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy under George W. Bush. “The truth is under attack, and it’s an absolutely dangerous direction for this country to be going in.”
Soros’ rationale: “I’d rather invest in effective education than ineffective arrest and incarceration.” ( Or maybe he has investments in corporate pot farms in a third world country???)

The way I see it, a crusade to give us back some of our liberty from those who have gradually taken it through lies and fear is a good crusade. Sounds like it was money well spent.

It used to be the tyranny of the majority, when the majority of people were comfortable with people having to face possible incarceration because they dared choose a method of intoxication that was not as socially accepted as alcohol. Now, it’s the tyranny of the minority, where that minority still enforces its social programming on the rest of us.
Something has to give, and I believe it’s only a matter of time before we finally learn the lessons we should have learned during alcohol prohibition. Of course, SC will be one of the last states to legalize it.

Government is your friend April 3, 2014 at 5:14 pm

My favorite part of prohibition was when the government decided that would enforce the prohibition laws by poisoning industrial alcohol; that killed around 10,000 people. Such alcohol is referred to as “denatured”, and the sole reason for doing it is to avoid a gov’t tax.

Read a report from Cato Institute about Portugal decriminalizing drugs and it seemed to work for them quite nicely. I don’t believe in legalizing drugs but we clearly aren’t gaining much ground as we are doing things presently. I believe legalizing drugs will return the USA to a past we don’t want to see again.

I’ve been informally tracking Fox News’ take on marijuana legalization and I’ve determined that their narrative on this issue is basically that they’re against legalization and skeptical of medical uses…however, they’ve left enough wriggle room so as not to completely alienate their hard core anti-gov audience who think it should be legal.

I’m not sure what the position is based on…but I get the sense they are worried that if Americans can toke it up, that somehow we’ll all be transformed into liberals.

It must be 4:20 somewhere :)

@ QueueTango,

Trying to control each and every thing that 350 million people do with their bodies is not small government, so kindly stop pretending to be a conservative. Your brand of fake-conservatism has much in common with socialism.

If you support prohibition then you are NOT a conservative.

Conservative principles quite clearly are:

1) Limited, locally controlled government.

2) Individual liberty coupled with personal responsibility.

3) Free enterprise.

4) A strong national defense.

5) Fiscal responsibility.

Prohibition is actually an authoritarian war on our economy and Constitution, and is clearly a socialist enterprise.

All kinds of drugs are potentially dangerous, most notably alcohol, and that’s already legal.

Children already grow up with legal recreational drugs—nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, just to name a few popular ones.

“The path we are on now (war on drugs) will destroy our free society” those were Milton Friedman’s words. Go on; I dare you to claim he was a Liberal! That is how a true conservative thinks; you are simply a fake conservative!

You’re complicit in destroying the constitution and all that it stands for, and you still dare to call yourself a conservative. So what is it in fact that you believe you’re conserving? American organized crime? The American Gulag? Or the American corruption of public officials? You can’t possibly be that stupid. You can’t possibly be that unaware to the fact that you’re actually complicit in promoting the destruction and/or corruption of every cherished American institution while attempting to vilify those of us who are rallying in their defense.

For shame on you!

Prohibitionists are the equivalent of those that fought in the Colonies on the side of the British. To the detriment of the rest of us, they want to keep their old outdated and failed policies alive.

Prohibitionists are even willing to commit murder rather than admit defeat:

“Frustrated that people continued to consume so much alcohol even after it was banned, federal officials had decided to try a different kind of enforcement. They ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohols manufactured in the United States, products regularly stolen by bootleggers and resold as drinkable spirits. The idea was to scare people into giving up illicit drinking. Instead, by the time Prohibition ended in 1933, the federal poisoning program, by some estimates, had killed at least 10,000 people.”

—an extract from: The little-told story of how the U.S. government poisoned alcohol during Prohibition with deadly consequences.

“The more obvious the failure becomes, the more shamelessly they exhibit their genuine motives. In plain words, what moves them is the psychological aberration called sadism. They lust to inflict inconvenience, discomfort, and whenever possible, disgrace upon the persons they hate, which is to say: upon everyone who is free from their barbarous theological superstitions, and is having a better time in the world than they are.

They cannot stop the use of alcohol, nor even appreciably diminish it, but they can badger and annoy everyone who seeks to use it decently, and they can fill the jails with men taken for purely artificial offences, and they can get satisfaction thereby for the Puritan yearning to browbeat and injure, to torture and terrorize, to punish and humiliate all who show any sign of being happy. And all this they can do with a safe line of policemen and judges in front of them; always they can do it without personal risk.”

—an extract from “Notes on Democracy” by Henry Louis Mencken, written in 1926, during alcohol prohibition, 1919-1933

Alcohol is legal Dumb@$$…why are you arguing for the legalization of alcohol, when you really want to get F*#ked up on weed…???

Alcohol and dope are TWO entirely different things. It has been shown that alcohol can be used responsibility and in moderation. And it can be abused. No doper that I know EVER moderates its use over time. They are known as dope-heads if they do it…and it’s an addiction, only…marijuana grips the soul long term…

Just like you leftwing radicals use past racial inequality to push gov’t-sanctioned homosexual unions…it’s not the same, but the brain-dead drug addicts you are talking to, are stupid…so you use stupid arguments…

We don’t need anymore vices…especially in a country out of control, and a gov’t that is the cause of suffering and misery, already….

Let’s get rid of the disease in gov’t…until then NO NEW Policies on drugs….

Reply
GrandTango April 4, 2014 at 8:11 am

We have a president who acts like he’s on dope…until we get the mess he’s made, cleaned up…we don’t need to condone any irresponsible, foolish and dangerous activity…

We KNOW abortion is BAD…but it’s legal and the gov’t now pays for it..and is trying to force opponents to pay for it. We KNOW racism is bad, yet the gov’t funds it w/ Affirmative Action.

It’s NOT a good time to add a vice that will damage the country, even more. Go to Third-World countries…I’m sure you can do all the drugs you want…Responsible countries (like we usedto be) need to protect Idiots and Fools from themselves…
