Luppe: Richard Eckstrom A “Walking, Talking Ethical Problem”

Michael Luppe, a Republican candidate running for Comptroller General in South Carolina, made the following comments this morning at a news conference in front of the Ethics Commission before Richard Eckstrom’s ethics hearing:

“Richard Eckstrom faces ethics charges for using campaign dollars for personal vacation. A career politician who struggles with the difference between right and wrong… Imagine that! He should know better.

This isn’t the first time he has had ethics trouble. A few years ago, Richard was caught going on vacation using the state car, which was even embarrassingly parodied on Saturday night live. Richard is a walking, talking ethical problem.

I will NOT use a state vehicle. I will use my own car to go to work just like every other normal person in this state.

Look, I’m not a career politician. In the private sector, if you’re consistently late with reports and you under-perform, you’re shown the door. Plain and simple. It’s time to show Richard Eckstrom the door.

It’s time for a change in the Comptroller’s office and I’m running to restore trust and efficiency to the office.”

Michael Luppe lives in Hartsville, SC with his wife, Andrea, and has spent his career in the private sector.

"I'm a playa" Eckstrom March 19, 2014 at 5:09 pm

Don’t be a hater Luppe. You just wish you could leave your wife and get crazy teacher poon.

Hate the game, not the playa.

Luppe sounds like a man determined to do the job properly, not live off the taxpayers for the rest of his life. I don’t know him but he sounds like he is off to a good start.
If Eckstrom spent less time on the sauce and chasing women he might get his accounting reports done on time.

how arrogant that little man Eckstrom must be to use a state cat to go to Minnesota and campaign funds to go to Tampa.

He has the sense of entitlement of the welfare queen he professes to hate so much.

What’s up with his sick obsession with Treasurer Loftis?

Luppe can beat Eckstrom. Eckstrom is not liked by Christian groups (as a rule they don’t like adulterers and drunks), not liked by colleagues, and not liked by people (those possessing a pulse and a BS meter). Kinda make any opponent look good!

Richard Eckstrom is not real – he is incredibly fragile, nebular and cracks easily under any pressure. For all his puffed up self-importance, he can’t stand up on his own energy or merit.

Eckstrom is a walking talking embarrassment. I wish you the best of luck!

Traveling On Company Business March 19, 2014 at 8:10 pm

“I will NOT use a state vehicle. I will use my own car to go to work just like every other normal person in this state.”

Then you, Sir, are a fool. For the salary of $92,700/year you are expected to provide administrative services for the taxpayers of SC in a high profile and public endeavor. As in the private sector in which you are not expected to travel on company business at your own expense, nor should you travel and provide services to the State of SC at your personal expense.

Be careful what you promise, you never know what you may have to deliver.

He can use a motor pool car for government business. He can use his car for vacations, going to political meetings or Sunday church.
I buy my own gas and pay for my own car. Why can’t our politicians do the same?

Amen Lewis!
State vehichles are provided for work related business and many are available in the motor pool. I used a motor pool car when on official business required by the State, my personal car for vacation, church, groceries, etc. These people think they are royalty and we are their servants.
I also had many unfortunate occasions, having to work with Eckstrom in my job. I’m telling you the man is NOT bright, hasn’t a clue about the job. His staff (long time employees) have saved his bacon many, many times.
I also know the woman in his sexual harassment case and advised her to get council. No doubt in my mind, Eckstrom was guilty as sin!
He definately needs to go!
I’d vote for ANYONE before Eckstrom.

Evidently, what ever he did failed to “satisfy” her as she got outta there as soon as she could!

I think he hit the nail right on the head – it’s the walking and talking that is the problem. Eliminate that – problem solved.

Why does SC put up with the sense of entitlement of this man and an Ethics Commission that wouldn’t recognize a problem if it beat them on the head. Maybe it’s time for Lost Trust 2. So sad for people who are really trying to effect change in this state.

Eckstrom’s expertise is to justify, minimize, and condescendingly defend his ego. He never “admits” wrongdoing, he’s incapable of being honest or transparent. Yet, he will win this election. Watch.

Last laugh, Willoughby? March 21, 2014 at 8:44 am

So Eckstrom’s ethics charges are dismissed…Mitchell Willoughby is not only Eckstrom’s attorney but also a maximum contributor to his reelection campaign (3/18/13 $2K) (9/23/13 $1,5K)

Although legally permissible…we are curious to see how much Mitchell Willoughby’s tab will be when Eckstrom writes it off from his campaign account.

I feel sorry for Sir Eckstrom. He’s got early onset of dementia. He’s burned so many bridges there’s no family members that are willing to take him in.

What else can be said of a man that is so blatantly self-important and devoid of any sense of right. We need an effective ethics commission, not a bunch of political appointees.

Richard do the right thing, don’t file. Leave the political arena gracefully.
