LIKE WE PREDICTED …
Two days ago, we published a story about impending protests targeting S.C. lieutenant governor Glenn McConnell – one of three finalists to become the next president of the College of Charleston.
Looks like they’re underway …
A loyal FITS reader in the Holy City of Charleston, S.C. forwarded us the above image, taken from campus of the “College of Knowledge.”
We’re not sure if this homemade sign – one of many reportedly popping up on campus – is part of the national NAACP’s protest of McConnell’s candidacy.
African-American opposition to McConnell isn’t monolithic, though. Sources tell FITS several black lawmakers who served with McConnell during his tenure in the S.C. General Assembly are rallying to his support.
Will McConnell get the job?
Sources tell FITS he is “very close” to getting enough votes on college’s board – but that S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s two appointees are working very hard to deny him the job.

Suppose we said: “No America-haters for POTUS”…the liberals would not have their guy in the White House.
When you consider the absolute failure rate of the left…I don’t think it’s a good idea to follow their advice.
But, according to FITS, McConnell is a fiscally liberal RINO.
Most all of academia is radical, leftwing militant anti-American liberal…so McConnell would be a few steps up from the normal Nazi Level leftwinger yall have in there now. Wasn’t Alex Sanders there? Hard to do much worse than that…
Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation happened on January 1, 1863, and declared the freedom of all slaves in Confederate territory. Despite this victory, Douglass supported John C. Frémont over Lincoln in the 1864 election, citing his disappointment that Lincoln did not publicly endorse suffrage for black freedmen. Not only that, states that practiced slavery NOT of the Confederacy were not freed under this.
Grant’s family slaves weren’t freed until 1865 – the one who hadn’t wondered off.
I wonder where they wandered ?
Why are you arguing Ancient history, that has been resolved and then some???…..
Sounds like you have a problem that the US Gov’t won the freedom that Black people could not earn for themselves???…Why do you hate our Constitution???
If McConnell gets the job, I will be curious to see what he does to get faculty and staff on his side. He would arrive with almost zero bonafides that academia values. Instead, he comes from a party and state government that often disparages “book learning”. His Confederacy fetish certainly does not advance his cause in this potential situation either.
“…..not sure if…sign…is part of….NAACP’s protest…”
If it is, then either the NAACP is broke or it has been taken over by second graders
Jim, that sign is brought to you by the upcoming graduating class of the Charleston School of Law…..
Taken over – it was started by a bunch of second graders.
Why have some recent articles vanished? I can’t find some either in Articles or the Archives. For example, I can’t find “Amy Back” or “Will Leaving”…..
Because Nancy left before all the kinks were worked out…
Thanks, but I noticed that this started about 10 days ago with the format change. Right now, I read new articles on my Win 8 (very fast) but cannot see the comments, and read the comments on my Win XP (very slow). Also, the Archives and the Article Categories do not update on Win 8 since the change.
Where is… KARL..??
He’ll probably make the Hunley museum a branch campus and give extra credit to students who attend class in confederate wear.
“. . .several black lawmakers who served with McConnell during his tenure in the S.C. General Assembly are rallying to his support.”
The S.C. Legislative Black Caucus has been unorganized, disjointed and ineffective for decades due to manipulation of committee/subcommittee assignments and redistricting by McConnell and Harrell.
These black lawmakers (Gilda Cobb-Hunter and Darrell Jackson come to mind — in office since 1992 and 1993 respectively) are more concerned with reelection and “friendly re-districting” (Redistricting Committee always chaired by McConnell) every decade than they are serving their constituents.
They do not serve their constituents; they serve themselves, and love their positions.
McConnell still plays these black legislators like a violin.
He’s got even the most radical — former Sen. Robert Ford (jailed during the civil rights era) — singing his praise and dancing a jig.
He doles out the sweets — and these black legislators literally fight for them.
McConnell is a real-life con man akin to Harold Hill, “The Music Man,” who posed as a boys’ band organizer and leader, selling band instruments and uniforms to naive Iowa townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band.
But Harold Hill was no musician and was intent on skipping town without giving any music lessons.
Anyone not getting the connection between Glenn McConnell and Harold Hill is naive.
Maybe Ford, Cobb-Hunter, and Jackson are intelligent, honest, incorruptible politicians who are above “color of one’s skin” baiting and prejudice and are supportive of McConnell due to diligent, thoughtful reflection?
LMAO!
Ford – resigned for ethics violations. Cobb-Hunter – social worker at state-sponsored agency, needs political help to keep her job. Jackson – harmless like Clementa Pinckney (both pastors) who do absolutely nothing in the legislature. Get zero legislation passed. Patsies for white folks. Uncle Toms.
You are correct. The black lawmakers are a joke. Their for sale to the highest bidder and people like GM & Harrell know it. They control them like puppets by dangling insignificant “carrots” that they kill each other over. The most ignorant group of people are the current black legislators….let’s see:
Gilda Cobb-Hunter–selfish, only concerned about HER well-being
Darryl Jackson–selfish, irrelevant, only looks out for his family, then his church
Clementa Pinckney–irrelevant & waste of time
Harold Mitchell–a joke
SenFord–a joke
RepKing–a homosexual joke
Todd Rutherford–hell raiser, but has little help bc the other black ppl are steadily trying to kill him.
Mia Butler–irrelevant joke who apparently likes getting married. But then again, she & SenJackson are quite “friendly” or should I say WERE quite friendly…
The black legislators are a joke and are a disgrace.
The naacp is racist and should be outlawed. Dot Scot should be in jail.
What a doofus.
Glenn, stop using that language. The Confederacy was racist and was defeated. Face it, you’re losing this battle. The national media is now looking at your racist slave picture. Makes me ashamed to be a South Carolinian.
If I’m a CoC black student, I start dressing in Antebellum South slave attire while on campus.
Slaves are good. Here’s mine — a healthy male and female. I breed ’em like rabbits — helps keep costs down. Won’t let ’em learn to read or write, though. They might get uppity, talk back.

USC has a textbook that falsely and hatefully attacks Ronald Reagan, despite the fact that Reagan saved this country after Carter’s disastrous bumbling. And USC defends the erroneous information in the book…
With SC colleges this mis-guided, it may be a good idea to put COMPETENT South Carolinians in the job..instead of leftwing ideologues….
You really are a fucking retard for believing the crap you hear on Fox News. You’re too fucking stupid to even get into a community college.
I saw it w/ my own eyes, Dumb@$$…
But you liberals are so typical and so corrupt… You lie and deny when caught perpetuating Hate against your political enemies…It’s not FOX News’ fault you got caught….
Wow, a “Research University” President that espouses creationism and the Lost Cause. Haley opposes him? Doubtful…
Glenn already announced that he won’t run for Lt. Governor or any other office; therefore, his political career — life in Columbia — is finished in January 2015. He is now in vehicle re-entry mode — returning to earth, all fuel spent. His ability to influence political events is diminishing daily. Once out of office, he will have no more powers than the Wizard of Oz after Toto pulled away the curtain. A little man that nobody listens to. Retired. Grounded. The college will be safe. His former legislative bedfellows won’t give him the time of day. Such is the political calculus of a 67-year-old monster looking at the sunset. In veterinarian parlance, you call him spayed.
Who are the other finalists? Did Jenny Sanford make the list?
No, but Leon Stavrinakis’s brother is in the running
Rep. Leon the little — a plaything of Glenn’s — hopes to get favors from Glenn McConnell and Bobby Harrell. They all live within five miles of each other. Leon’s brother is now on the MUSC board calling for merger with College of Charleston. Glenn arranged this, and everyone knows it. Now Glenn is telling worried COFC people that he, Glenn, won’t let it happen, he will save COFC from MUSC train wreck, and everyone knows it. Glenn plays god badly.
Michael Stavrinakis runs Manny’s Grill which has awful food and is almost always empty. Yes, he’s in the running.
Fits writes that the governor’s two appointees are obstacles to McConnell, and I’ve got this message to those appointees:
1. Stand firm to your principles and do not be swayed by threats or promises.
2. You may seem to be alone in your stance but you are not. Thousands are with you.
3. This is the most important vote you’ll ever make as a trustee; treat it that way.
4. This vote will have ramifications that affect the college for decades to come.
5. McConnell has no friends or social life and leads a life of fear, threats and intimidation. This is true especially in state government, where he is respected for his parliamentary skills, and feared and despised for his use of those skills. All legislators will tell you this confidentially, but publicly they will say the exact opposite.
6. Do not fear that voting against McConnell will cause the legislature to reduce funding for the college, or that the college will be compelled to merge with MUSC. These are threats and plans that McConnell quietly (through other legislators, including Stavrinakis, Limehouse, Courson, Leatherman) initiated two years ago when he became Lt. Governor.
7. McConnell has been working on this college position since he became Lt. Governor.
7. McConnell will do enormous damage to the reputation of the college and the state. He is a social misfit, a loner, a paranoiac, with a brutal personality similar to that of Joseph Stalin.
8. Stand up and do the right thing. Vote No to McConnell.
Gen. McConnell losing PR war on Post Courier website. Many negative comments. Students outraged. Story getting MSM coverage now, growing legs…

I understand GM has nonvirulent HIV-AIDS from unprotected sex in the 70s, tired all the time but under control w/ cocktail of antiviral drugs. GM’s fatigue became noticeable and subject of discussion in Columbia starting 3 yrs. ago. Two people on his staff have talked.
Why not? Charleston started the civil war, it’s only fitting they have a wanna be confederate general as president of C of C.
PRETEND general. Remember, it’s all pretend, play, get it?
The difference between my “wanna be” and your “pretend” is minimal.
