LAWMAKER: “NARROW MINDED RESENTMENT” DRIVES FUNDING DECISION

South Carolina’s Democratic minority leader is blasting the state’s “Republican” majority for cutting funding to two superfluous institutions of higher learning.

How much money are we talking? Between the two schools, a grand total of $69,162 – which doesn’t even qualify as a molecule of a drop in the bucket of South Carolina’s $23 billion (and growing) state budget.

Yet this molecule has become a veritable flood of media coverage … including here on FITS.

Why is this funding being cut? Because the two schools – the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina (Upstate) – have issued pro-homosexual books as required reading for incoming freshman (including one book that was exclusively “outed” by this website).

Well, wait … did we actually out both of them?

Hmmmmmm. We break so many scoops … it’s hard to keep track.

Anyway, critics of the books are exercising their prerogative to commensurately reduce funding for these institutions – which supporters are railing against as censorship.

“When legislators begin allocating resources to public universities based on whether they agree with the subject matter taught in certain courses, we have undermined not only the very definition of higher education, but also our state’s commitment to open scholarship,” this website’s associate opinion editor Amy Lazenby wrote earlier this week. “If South Carolina’s universities are to retain their credibility as institutions of true higher learning, we must not go down that road.”

Meanwhile S.C. minority leader Todd Rutherford (D-Columbia) said the funding cuts were indicative of an “anti-LGBT” budget.

“The Republicans in the General Assembly have resorted to censorship and budget-gutting in order to keep colleges from admitting that gays and lesbians actually exist,” Rutherford said. “I hate to break it to my Republican friends, but gays and lesbians have always existed and will always exist no matter how many books they ban. It’s time for Republicans to get over their narrow minded resentment towards the LGBT community and finally enter into the 21st century. Their kids and grandkids will thank them later.”

Where are we on this?

Our view is surprisingly simple: Taxpayers shouldn’t subsidize any form of higher ed propaganda (gay or straight). Why not? Because they shouldn’t fund higher education – period.

Unfortunately, South Carolina has always spent a disproportionate amount of its budget on higher ed – which has increasingly turned into nothing but a command economic racket. Oh and if you’re paying tuition at an in-state school, you’re getting doubly screwed.

We agree with Lazenby: The Palmetto State should be a bastion of open scholarship. But it should also be a bastion of open markets – in which colleges and universities compete for students (and foundation money) based on whatever academic offerings they deem appropriate.

Government should have no role whatsoever in that equation …

Nope, just saying that gays are living in their “golden age”… I hope they enjoy it while it lasts… history shows that pervert and hedonistic cultures are not perpetual – mainly because they have no moral authority, are not disciplined, and ultimately are not very courageous. In fact, worldwide, many things are already developing – the traditional Russian reemergence, radical Islamism, ultra-conservative African nationalism – within the human spirit to dispel us of our hedonistic society.

mainly because they have no moral authority, are not disciplined, and ultimately are not very courageous.

Whose moral authority? So nations fall because a guy bones another guy?

Discipline? What does being gay have to do with discipline?

Courage? What does that even mean? I assume you live in the USA, the country that pompously declares it has the biggest dick in everything and tries to act like it runs the place. Yes, I’ve certainly seen a more timid foreign policy since “the gays” forgot their place, amirite?

In fact, worldwide, many things are already developing – the traditional Russian reemergence, radical Islamism, ultra-conservative African nationalism – within the human spirit to dispel us of our hedonistic society.

You’re funny.

So now Iran, Russia, and Uganda are bastions of moral authority, discipline, and courage, because they either persecute or execute “them gays.” Thank goodness, a bunch of regressive cavemen pushing shitty religious beliefs on others in an oppressive manner have come along to dispel hedonism!

And oh, the Golden Age of Gays is nigh! Beyond the horizon comes a vast majority of Americans who… disapprove of those countries’ actions. Oh, shit. That didn’t turn out like you wanted.

History will remember those like you as bigots and a fools.

MG42 March 11, 2014 at 9:44 am

Seriously, enjoy the ride. IMO, I believe that you’ll find in the next 50 years that while millions of Americans will not fight AGAINST their gay citizens, they’ll not be fighting FOR these citizens either… thus, the political/military cashing out over this indifference doesn’t foster rosy prospects for the US on the world stage.

The “right side of history” is expanding the rights of the individual. Freedom of/from religion. Freedom from slavery. Freedom to love who you want to love. Freedom to have a vote. Freedom to drink out of whatever water fountain you want, or to not be forced to go to an inferior school. Freedom to not have a book that lists experiences of people like you labeled “offensive” by ignorant bigots.

I could give a rat’s ass what you choose to stick your dong in, and as long as you aren’t hurting someone else by doing so, I have no desire to stop you. Why? Because it doesn’t stop me from living my life how I want. Not giving a shit about things that don’t pertain to you is being on the “right side of history.”

thankfully, I feel a backlash is headed our way soon.

The backlash is already here, and is against people like you. :)

The pope concludes: “Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice in the world. This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naive trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power.”

“South Carolina has always spent a disproportionate amount of its budget on higher ed.”

From 2007 to 2012, full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment in South Carolina increased by over 20%. During the same time period, educational appropriations per FTE decreased nearly 40%.

As usual, South Carolina occupies its customary position fourth from the bottom compared to other states.

Since Willie maintains there should be no appropriation, his “disproportionate” standard becomes clearer.

Reply
DB Cooper March 10, 2014 at 8:26 pm

Does your “educational appropriations per FTE” – that you cite decreasing nearly 40% from 2007 to 2012 – include lottery dollars, and, federal and other (earmarked/restricted) revenue sources that are provided to students?

Reply

My data source is the State Higher Education Finance report for FY2012.

State and Local Support—consisting of state tax appropriations and local tax support plus additional nontax funds (e.g., lottery revenue) that support or benefit higher education, and funds appropriated to other state entities for specific higher education expenditures or benefits (e.g., employee fringe benefits disbursed by the state treasurer). State and local support for 2009–2012 (federal fiscal years 2009–2011) also includes federal ARRA revenue provided to stabilize this source of revenue for higher education.

Educational Appropriations—that part of state and local support available for public higher education operating expenses, defined to exclude spending for research, agricultural, and medical education, as well as support for independent institutions or students attending them.

Sam March 11, 2014 at 5:49 pm

I believe the lottery money referred to above is not the money sent to the parents then given to the school, but “remainder” money (small bits and pieces) sent when the left over money exist.

JD March 11, 2014 at 5:47 pm

The statistics will tell you most anything you want. What they don’t tell you is that higher ed is like the kid in the candy shop, they buy everything they can see and they still want more. The cost spirals upwards and they plug in new sources of revenue to attempt to keep pace with their appetite.

In the end, the kings of higher ed are building kingdoms to themselves. They make higher salaries, enjoy power and prestige, and position themselves for better jobs elsewhere as the state of SC continues in its near 3rd world position.

On the contrary, the afterlife is an escape for the ignorant. Even an unyielding amount of faith cannot “prove” an afterlife exists. There will always be some level of doubt, even for the delusional, it is just that the delusional readily dismiss their doubt without a second thought.

This concept that we have souls and that they die if we sin (or, maybe sin too much) is pretty ridiculous as it is. It reeks of “pretend justice” in an existence where actual justice is far from guaranteed (for instance, a murderer that never gets caught and dies at a ripe old age, free).

The notion that your soul dies because you have an attraction to the same sex and act in a natural way to that attraction is, in my opinion, repugnant, ignorant, absurd, and sad, among other things. Why is it a sin? Who does it hurt? What logical reasoning is there that proves it is detrimental to society? What purpose does it serve for those people to be punished, whether it be them or their soul?

Why is it only people who are attracted to the same sex? Why not an attraction to fat people? Or an attraction to people of the opposite race? Or an attraction to various fetishes?

Why should we even care if someone decides to “destroy their soul” in the first place? If they don’t hurt anyone else, let them have at it.

Your system of morality is fundamentally flawed and it makes you a terrible person to not only refuse to reject it, but to try to enforce it on others.

The requirement to provide free public schools “to all children” means it is basically addressing K-12 education, not college. So my question to Fitsnews is: Does your belief that government should have no role in education extend to primary education as well?

It is crazy that they are comparing this to a violation of free speech… the House only wants the universities not to require these pornographic works!!! They don’t want to restrict or forbid students from reading them they just don’t want to force students to read them! It appears that legislators have no problem with making the books available in the library for any one to read if they so choose…

Writer should have done his research.

Neither book was required reading.

This is nothing more than heterosexuals in power trying to denigrate the gay people they created.

Stay classy!!!!

A Day For A Lay

by W. H. Auden

It was a spring day, a day, a day for a lay when the air Smelled like a
locker-room, a day to blow or get blown. Returning from lunch I turned
my corner and there On a near-by stoop I saw him standing alone. I
glanced as I advanced. The clean white T-shirt outlined A forceful
torso, the light-blue denims divulged Much. I observed the snug curves
where they hugged the behind, I watched the crotch where the cloth
intriguingly bulged.

Our eyes met, I felt sick. My knees turned weak. I couldn’t move. I
didn’t know what to say. In a blur I heard words myself like a stranger
speak. “Will you come to my room?” Then a husky voice, “O.K.”

I produced some beer and we talked. Like a little boy He told me his
story. Present address next door. Half Polish half Irish The youngest.
From Illinois. Profession mechanic. Name Bud. Age twenty-four.

He put down his glass and stretched his bare arms along The back of my
sofa. The afternoon sunlight struck The blond hairs on the wrist near my
head. His chin was strong, His mouth sucky. I could hardly believe my
luck. And here he was sitting beside me, legs apart.

I could bear it no longer. I touched the inside of his thigh. His reply
was to move closer. I trembled. My heart Thumped and jumped as my
fingers went to his fly. I opened a gap in the flap. I went in there. I
sought for a slit in the gripper shorts that had charge Of the basket I
asked for.

I came to warm flesh then to hair, I went on. I found what I hoped. I
groped. It was large. He responded to my fondling in a charming,
disarming way: Without a word he unbuckled his belt while I felt And
lolled back, stretching his legs. His pants fell away. Carefully drawing
it out, I beheld what I held.

The circumcised head was a work of mastercraft, With perfectly beveled
rim of unusual weight And the friendliest red. Even relaxed, the shaft
Was of noble dimensions with the wrinkles that indicate Singular powers
of extension.

For a second or two, It lay there inert then suddenly stirred in my
hand, Then paused as if frightened or doubtful of what to do, And then
with a violent jerk began to expand. By soundless bounds it extended and
distended, by quick Great leaps it rose, it flushed, it rushed to its
full size.

Nearly nine inches long and three inches thick, A royal column ineffably
solemn and wise. I tested its length and strength with a manual squeeze,
I bunched my fingers and twirled them about the knob, I stroked it from
top to bottom. I got on my knees. I lowered my head. I opened my mouth
for the job.

But he pushed me gently away. He bent down. He unlaced His shoes. He
removed his socks. Stood up. Shed His pants altogether. Muscles in arms
and waist Rippled as he whipped his T-shirt over his head. I scanned his
tan, enjoyed the contrast of brown Trunk against white shorts taut
around small Hips. With a dig and a wriggle he peeled them down. I tore
off my clothes. He faced me smiling. I saw all.

The gorgeous organ stood stiffly and straightly out With a slight flare
upwards. At each beat of his heart it threw An odd little nod my way.
From the slot of the spout Exuded a drop of transparent viscous goo.

The lair of hair was fair, the grove of a young man, A tangle of curls
and whorls, luxuriant but couth. Except for a spur of golden hairs that
fan To the neat navel, the rest of the belly was smooth.

Well hung, slung from the fork of the muscular legs, The firm vase of
his sperm, like a bulging pear, Cradling its handsome glands, two
herculean eggs, Swung as he came towards me, shameless, bare.

We aligned mouths. We entwined. All act was clutch, All fact contact,
the attack and the interlock Of tongues, the charms of arms. I shook at
the touch Of his fresh flesh, I rocked at the shock of his cock.

Straddling my legs a little I inserted his divine Person between and
closed on it tight as I could. The upright warmth of his belly lay all
along mine. Nude, glued together for a minute, we stood. I stroked the
lobes of his ears, the back of his head And the broad shoulders.

I took bold hold of the compact Globes of his bottom. We tottered. He
fell on the bed. Lips parted, eyes closed, he lay there, ripe for the
act. Mad to be had, to be felt and smelled.

My lips Explored the adorable masculine tits. My eyes Assessed the
chest. I caressed the athletic hips And the slim limbs. I approved the
grooves of the thighs. I hugged, I snuggled into an armpit.

I sniffed the subtle whiff of its tuft. I lapped up the taste Of its hot
hollow. My fingers began to drift On a trek of inspection, a leisurely
tour of the waist. Downward in narrowing circles they playfully strayed.
Encroached on his privates like poachers, approached the prick.

But teasingly swerved, retreated from meeting. It betrayed Its pleading
need by a pretty imploring kick. “Shall I rim you?” I whispered. He
shifted his limbs in assent, Turned on his side and opened his legs, let
me pass To the dark parts behind.

I kissed as I went The great thick cord that ran back from his balls to
his arse. Prying the buttocks aside, I nosed my way in Down the shaggy
slopes. I came to the puckered goal. It was quick to my licking. He
pressed his crotch to my chin. His thighs squirmed as my tongue wormed
in his hole.

His sensations yearned for consummation. He untucked His legs and lay
panting, hot as a teen-age boy. Naked, enlarged, charged, aching to get
sucked, Clawing the sheet, all his pores open to joy.

I inspected his erection. I surveyed his parts with a stare From scrotum
level. Sighting along the underside Of his cock, I looked through the
forest of pubic hair To the range of the chest beyond rising lofty and
wide. I admired the texture, the delicate wrinkles and the neat Sutures
of the capacious bag.

I adored the grace Of the male genitalia. I raised the delicious meat Up
to my mouth, brought the face of its hard-on to my face. Slipping my
lips round the Byzantine dome of the head, With the tip of my tongue I
caressed the sensitive groove. He thrilled to the trill. “That’s
lovely!” he hoarsely said.

“Go on! Go on!” Very slowly I started to move. Gently, intently, I slid
to the massive base Of his tower of power, paused there a moment down In
the warm moist thicket, then began to retrace Inch by inch the smooth
way to the throbbing crown.

Indwelling excitements swelled at delights to come As I descended and
ascended those thick distended walls. I grasped his root between left
forefinger and thumb
And with my right hand tickled his heavy voluminous balls. I plunged
with a rhythmical lunge steady and slow, And at every stroke made a
corkscrew roll with my tongue.

His soul reeled in the feeling. He whimpered, “Oh!” As I tongued and
squeezed and rolled and tickled and swung. Then I pressed on the spot
where the groin is joined to the cock, Slipped a finger into his arse
and massaged him from inside. The secret sluices of his juices began to
unlock.

He melted into what he felt. “O Jesus!” he cried. Waves of immeasurable
pleasures mounted his member in quick Spasms. I lay still in the notch
of his crotch inhaling his sweat His ring convulsed round my finger.
Into me, rich and thick, His hot spunk spouted in gouts, spurted in jet
after jet.

Colleges and universities must avoid sectarian atheist beliefs in their curriculum. Gay porn has no business in schools. The author of the graphic novel “Fun Home” is the product of a broken family involving homosexual pedophilia of her father. Early childhood trauma such as hers is the primary correlation folks choose the unhealthy gay lifestyle. There is hope. She could seek professional therapy to adjust back to a normal life.
