The South Carolina woman who drove her minivan into the Atlantic Ocean earlier this week is now facing charges in the wake of the incident.
Get it? Wake? Sorry … we couldn’t help ourselves.
Ebony Wilkerson, 32, of North Charleston, S.C. has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and three counts of child abuse. She is being held by Volusia County (Florida) authorities on a $1.2 million bond.
Wilkerson made national headlines when she drove a Honda Odyssey containing her three children – aged 10, 9 and 3 – into the surf off of Daytona Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
The mentally distressed mother was first observed by a beach safety officer driving recklessly down the shoreline – parallel to the ocean. Eventually the car banked to the east into the Atlantic – becoming partially submerged after being struck by a wave. It eventually floated to a stationary position – at which point the three children and their mother were removed by volunteer citizens and paramedics who had arrived on the scene.
According to investigators, prior to driving into the four-foot surf Wilkerson locked the doors and rolled up the windows of the minivan and told her children to “close their eyes” while she took them to a “safer place.”
One of the children reportedly attempted to wrestle control of the vehicle from his mother as she plowed into the water.
Wilkerson is reportedly involved in an abusive relationship in South Carolina – and escaped to Florida to see her sister, Jessica Harrell.

Weird how her mouth spans like a third of her face. She reminds me of Venom, from the Spider Man comic book series.

She looks like she needs her meds.
If only she looked like Halle Berry, this never would have happened.
“The mentally distressed mother was first observed by a beach safety officer driving recklessly down the shoreline – parallel to the ocean.”
Why was a beach safety officer driving recklessly down the shorline?
