Union, SC – State Representative Mike Anthony announced Wednesday that he will end his campaign for Superintendent of Education and run for re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives. Anthony released the following statement on Wednesday afternoon:
“Since announcing my candidacy for Superintendent of Education I have enjoyed traveling around the state and meeting so many others who share my commitment to improving public education in South Carolina.
During this time I have come to the conclusion that I can be more effective at improving our schools by remaining in the House of Representatives, where I presently serve on the budget-writing Ways and Means Committee as well as the K-12 sub-committee. As Superintendent, one of my main goals would have been to put more money into the classroom. By remaining in the House and continuing to serve on the Ways and Means Committee, I have a voice, and more importantly a vote, to put more money in the budget for our schools.
I enjoy serving my community in the legislature and frankly, have not enjoyed the spending so much time away from Union and away from my family while seeking statewide office.
Today I am ending my campaign for Superintendent of Education and will be seeking re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives. The support I’ve received in my campaign has been both overwhelming and humbling and I am so appreciative to everyone who has helped me up to this point. I remain committed to our schools, and if re-elected to the State House, I will use my position to strongly advocate for a substantial increase in school funding so we can pay our teachers what they deserve and allow every student an opportunity to prosper.”

He is a Democrat. He never had a chance anyway.
Wait… aren’t Democrats and Republicans the same thing?
At least thats the claim of Fits and his fellow Non Republican Republicans. They “claim” to oppose both.
Funny thing though. If you notice their stated philosophy its pretty much the same as just about every Republican I know of.
They are just to the right of the tea party… in other words, they know their pick is a fucking idiot, but they’ll vote for him anyway. The difference is: the tea party doesn’t know they’re voting for morons.
As if a high school football coach, of all people, could be South Carolina’s Superintendent of Education. Makes no difference about his party affiliation, bottom line is the guy knows doddle-dee shit about academics. But, if America can elect Obama with his pitiful background, I guess it could happen.
It has EVERYTHING to do with his party affiliation. No Democrat is going to win a statewide race in SC absent some fluke.
As for “qualifications?” In 2006, the Republicans nominated a lawyer and in 2010, Zais was in a runoff with a woman who never even graduated from college. She is running again incidentally.Come on Republicans,NOMINATE and elect her!
Damn that would make for some great laughs!
He had 30 years of classroom experience – wouldn’t you want someone who’s actually been in the classroom making decisions about education? Also, he was on K-12 subcommittee in the state house, so he already had influence with education policy. Check your facts.
Jim Rex also had several years of experience as a teacher – how’d that work out?
To say Obama was unqualified to be president is a supreme understatement.

I know… it takes more than good diction, and logical analysis to be a puppet… you should also be a dry drunk.
You consider speeches slam packed with UMs and AHs good diction?
Of course not – I was saying it wasn’t enough even for George – whose diction was impeccable….
…and it’s *jam* packed.
All it takes these days is a working teleprompter, dumbass voters who fall for any old bullshit (‘hope and change’) and a slavish, water carrying corps of media advocates to become president – even if said person isn’t even qualified to be elected the local dog catcher.
Come on now, Ronald Reagan wasn’t that bad.
isn’t even qualified to be elected the local dog catcher.

Bush could have caught a dog… he could have lain in the gutter drunk, and when the dog came over to piss on him, all he’d have to do is grab his leg. I’m sure he could catch pit bulls without a teleprompter… but he’d have to get a surgeon to pull it loose.
Molly Spearman’s candidate dropped out? Dayum!
Elect Gary Burgess. http://burgessforsc.org/
