ANOTHER WAY TO PAY FOR SOCIALIZED MEDICINE!
At this point pretty much every word uttered by U.S. President Barack Obama in support of his socialized medicine monstrosity has been proven false … demonstrably.
Lower the deficit? Shrink premiums by $2,500? “Like your plan, keep your plan?”
Yeah … all of that turned out to be 100 percent bullsh*t.
Now let’s address the myth that Obamacare is going to “help the economy.” Really? Tell that to diners in Florida who are being hit with an “Obamacare surcharge” whenever they order food from one of eight Gator’s Dockside restaurants.
According to CNN this restaurant is levying a 1 percent Affordable Care Act surcharge on its food and beverage tabs …
“The costs associated with ACA compliance could ultimately close our doors,” a sign at one of the restaurants reads. “Instead of raising prices on our products to generate the additional revenue needed to cover the costs of ACA compliance, certain Gator’s Dockside locations have implemented a 1 (percent) surcharge on all food and beverage purchases only.”
Take a look …
Wow …
And guess what … the surcharge is only expected to cover around $160,000 of the $500,000 in Obamacare-related costs being incurred by this restaurant chain each year.
Hope and change, people … with the change (once again) coming out of your pocket.

@fitsnews Good marketing ploy…. Where is the Iraq War surcharge? or Bush's Medicare part D surcharge?

Excellent point, Brady! FITS has consistently opposed global interventionism and Medicaid expansion – to say nothing of the prior administration that (also) foisted them upon us. But that’s an excellent point you made with your tweet …

Health care for all Americans is more important than a war based on lies charged on the credit card.
Yes ,.indeedy! Can’t wait for all those PA’ s and MD’s and MP’ s to UNIONIZE! If U think healthcare is expensive now….wait ’til it is FREE!
Money is for the rich! If the regular dudes get to bargain, more people will have money.
All that means is they’ll have to steal it from us all over again.
You know, the business requirement was postponed for 2 years. This is fraud by this business. People believe any damned thing.
I haven’t noticed an ACA surcharge on any of my receipts from restaurants I’ve visited. I tend to look over them carefully.
Typical cheap SELFISH liberal…you’ll work overtime to Screw someone in a business serving your slothful @$$..but you don’t mind imposing a punitive tax on people suffering because, you decide to use the government’s Gun and hold it to the head to take money THEY worked for, to pay for your LAZY @$$ to loaf…
Thank God I have a gun too..And fortunately I’m guessing the true soldiers, the gov’t is paying, who actually know sacrifice…are on my side… This IRS ain’t s#!* if their collection agency is lightin’ up your traitor @$$ instead of mine…
Thank God I have a gun too..
*TBG seriously reconsiders his pro-Second Amendment stance…*
Most brainless drones do…so that is appropriate for you…
B-but, Socialism! Benghazi! Fast and Furious! IRS! Benghazi! Solyndra! Selfiegate! Benghazi!
You said “Benghazi” thrice.
How many years do you think businesses have been preparing? Its not like an owner can just wake up on December 31st to start getting ready for a change that is set to take effect Jan 1st. The deadline is being delayed because of the problems small businesses were having getting ready for implementation. All of that preparation costs money. If you read the article, you would know that she did not claim the health care premiums are kicking in now. She explicitly said this was started now to cover compliance costs:
“The Gator Group’s full-time hourly employees won’t actually receive health insurance until December. But the company said it implemented the surcharge now because of the compliance costs it’s facing ahead of the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate kicking in in 2015…Clark is not sure how much the company is spending on compliance, but estimates that it will cost $500,000 a year to extend insurance to its full-time hourly restaurant workers. The surcharge may bring in about $160,000 a year, she hopes.”
Many, many companies were ready for the original date. Gator’s is charging for something they aren’t providing. I understand that they’ve been reported to the IRS for an illegal tax/surcharge. That said, only the franchises in FL are charging it at this time. Political statement that will bite them in the arse.
Any company that becomes compliant does so at a significant cost over a period of time. Gator says it has compliance costs it has incurred and is charging an additional amount to recocer them. Unless you think that Gator is lying about having spend money getting ready (which would be a rather silly thing to believe) before the delay, then your fraud allegation is slanderous.
It is also sort of ironic to accuse them of fraud, since they are being more forthcoming than other businesses about the costs of the ACA. Costs are going to go up for everyone, whether you build them into an increase in menu prices or break it out for the customer to see. Putting it as a separate line item is more transparent, but I suspect that is precisely what some have a problem with. They don’t want people to understand how harmful the ACA is to the economy.
I understand that they’ve been reported to the IRS for an illegal tax/surcharge.
Maybe we should recall some of our overseas soldiers fighting for our freedoms…to fight for a Florida restaurant chain’s freedom to set their own prices, eh?
*Comment designed to elicit head explosions by liberals… as well as BigT/GrandTango.*
T will do it.
Businesses typically begin paying compliance costs prior to the actual implementation of regulations. Its known as research. Some pay somebody to do it, others do it personally dependent on the size of tbe company, complicatedness (?!?), etc.
No doubt in my mind that some whiner that try wants everyone to pay their bills has reported them to not only the IRS but also DOJ, SLED, BOL, DOL, EPA and a whole other host of acronyms that are destroying this country. Like WIS, WLTX, WOLO.
.20 is a political statement. Implementation will cause a real increase on the actual price of the product on the order of 75%, for which no one can complain, because it will be factored as overhead. Done.
http://www.gatorsdockside.com/ Why don’t you contact them and ask why they are committing fraud.
Because they are not. They can charge what they want when they want. It’s called overhead
ACA is far from perfect. We really need a single payor system, but as long as you are beholden to the Insurance Companies– we are stuck with this mess. To everyone that says the ACA is a failure and should be repealed– What do suggest? You need to realize that the only thing the USA is number one in is the cost of medical care. The quality of our care is middle of the pack at best among the industrialized countries.
Government itself isn’t the problem. The problem is we keep electing dumbasses. Dumbassess breed dumbasses. Dumbassess appoint dumbasses. The elected dumbasses arrange for other dumbasses to get government jobs (dumbasses that couldn’t make in the private sector unless their father-in-law was the boss). But what do I know– make illegal to be gay, make attending Free Will Baptist Church three times a week mandatory, make us wear magic underwear, make certain the Dallas Cowboys are in the Super Bowl every year, let companies dump chemicals into our rivers, streams and air, let big oil and gas frack us to death, do away with all regulations, make it mandatory that everyone carry a gun, keep women barefoot and pregnant, do away with education (who needs that learning shit anyway), keep the Fort Lee bridge closed, lower taxes and ==poof== all of our problems go away. See it’s easy.
Absolutely agree.
Insurance doesn’t even need to be 100% sidelined. There are all sorts of systems out there, some that have heavily regulated private health insurance, some that have single payer, some that have a hybrid system, some that has government-funded with optional insurance. Notice that in every one of those instances, government is present. Why? Universal healthcare is absolutely, positively, completely and wholly impossible to achieve without government interference.
Last time I read up on it, France had one of the most expensive systems in the EU and even they didn’t come close to touching our health care costs per capita.
The health care industry should, no matter what, be focused primarily on affordable, quality access. Unfortunately, from health insurance to pharmaceuticals to hospitals, it is very much focused primarily on profits in far too many instances. And guess what? Republican reforms are all about increasing those profits: tearing down state lines (and kingmaking a state with the shittiest regulations), tort reform (even at the costs of actual malpractice victims), and making sure insurance companies don’t have to touch the people who got entirely fucked over by the system, ever.
I’d rather pay the twenty cents any day over that, thanks.
Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA). Universal healthcare since 1986.
Take it easy on the Free Will Baptists. You don’t much about them. They are left of the Pentacostal Holiness and the Primitive Baptist and they don’t handle snakes either. They meet 4 times a week; Sunday Morning Service, Sunday Evening Service, Wednesday Prayer Meeting, and Monday Night Master’s Men Meeting.
They go to school, too; Free Will Baptist College at Nashville, TN and Bob Jones in Greeneville.
Carry on though, cause most of your rant is correct.
“…make attending Free Will Baptist Church three times a week mandatory,..”
Nice! TBG sees what you did there.
“…make us wear magic underwear,..”
Mormons, not Baptists…
“…make certain the Dallas Cowboys are in the Super Bowl every year…
Point taken. TBG would rather blow goats for a nickel a herd than live in such a society.
metaphorically.
Oh my, 20-cents. People won’t be able to afford the Chili Cheese dog. Of course, the guy eatin’ chili cheese dogs better himself hope he has good insurance.
Why is everyone only seeing the 20 cents part of this? It’s essentially an additional charge to your bill to pay for this legislation, that so far, has been rife with delays, failures, and security risks. It may be only 20 cents this year, but could continue to rise to the point that it’s real money. If you make 100 transactions a week at 20 cents extra per transaction, that’s $20. For most of us, that’s $20 worth of fuel to put in the vehicles that take us to our jobs. Or $20 worth of food to put on our tables.
It’s just this restaurant right now, but it could very easily spread to many more businesses that you deal with on a daily basis.
If Obamcacare is not REJECTED, like it looks like the democrats will be in Nov. we have LOST America…
And FITS: You won’t admit it…but it’s cushy, hip-wanna-be cul-d-sac rappers like you who let this $#!* get to the mess it is…
You open the door for moderates, who want to be liked and cool, to the GOP….so that the Heavy lifters, and builders of this country (the adults if you will) lose to punks like Obama and the adolescent-minded Dumb@$$#$ who believe his Hitler-Utopia plans for America….
Blame yourself first. If you, and those like you, don’t get your Head out your A$$, we’ll be like Nazi Germany before it’s over…with Conservatives shot on sight…And Ronpaul is a vote for Obama…
The only comfort is that the people who built this country will mutilate the pieces of $#! Occupy druggies…and the liberals who empower them….But who wants to do that?
OK – I’m guessing locally – some Edisto Crush or something.
And Ronpaul is a vote for Obama…
PTSD?
Bad ‘shrooms?

*TBG jumps back, kisses himself!*
TBG, the GrandTurnip has revealed a clue — he means “BEECHNUT CHAWING TABAKKER”….
One fan only pray.
Tango, I never respond to you or engage you because you are such a moranic wack job who will probably trace my ID and kill me in my sleep from my IP address. But your amazing lack of understanding of the national debt is…IMPRESSIVE. first president to double the debt – Reagn 1 trillion to 2 trillion. 2nd was GW Bush, about 6 Trillion to about 12 Trillion. Arguable another 2.2 Trillion after that is his too, because of the wars/surges he left us the life cycle cost for medical and disabled veterans from his awful misadventures AND he passed Medicare part D w/o ever funding it. That was Obama’s mistake – that he tried to fund the ACA some way. He should have done it the ‘Republican’ way and just obligated us never caring where the money came from. That means of the 17 trillion your crying about – 14.3ish trillion is NOT Obamas. You are a fool sir. Do you even realize that about 1/3rd of the debt is intragovernmental debt we owe to ourselves that we stole/borrowed from the Medicare and Social Security Trust funds? Read a book, watch the news, have beer, sleep with a woman – or for Godsakes at least masterbate, your quality of live will improve tremendously.
A masterly reply to the Village Idiot!
$2.49 for a tea is the real crime here.
It’s the only crime. Look for it to go to $5.00 under the weight of increased regs. I got to cussing hard last night. Went out to McD’s last night and nearly died. Big mac, quarter pounder and two fries. No combo. $12freaking.40. $12.40 for two of the most basic piece o’ crap burgers on the planet. Fuck.
——“Went out to McD’s last night and nearly died. Big mac, quarter pounder and two fries”———-
A few more meals like that and you can drop the “nearly”, Frank.
I’m not paying that for crap food offering High Quality crap service. Forget it.
If .20 was the only real cost I’d be laughing harder at what you typed.
You and I both know that .20 on a meal ticket is even a gnat’s ass in terms of the problems Obamacare has & will cause.
TBG is an ex-waiter. TBG paid his own health insurance premiums then.
Pro Tip:
Food and Beverage workers and former F&B workers are the best tippers.
My sweetheart from Connecticut who worked her way through college by waitressing at Martha’s Vinyard believed that for sure. We took a vacation down the coast to Ft. Lauderdale, and every waiter/waitress got 30% tip — or Shiftywould get no nookie that night. I missed the first night, but after that it was worth it!
Re: The whiny posts about fraud. They can charge anything they like. There’s a restaurant in CA that started it and they charge a flat rate. More power to a of them. I won’t shop there. That will impact the economy. Hypothesis proven. ObamaCare will cost jobs.
It isn’t whiny and they have been reported to the IRS but not by me. Obamacare will create more jobs than it kills. Some don’t see the forest for the trees.
While back I ate at a hole in the wall wings and beer joint.
Got the bill – it had a charge of $2.00 for “FOP”
Upon inquiry the waitress said it was a charged levied against certain customers – customers who took too long to order, ordered nothing but specials, always asked for two plates with one order, a dogie bag and always wanted their just refilled drink put in a cup to go
Being curious i asked, “well do you have a name or a way of identifying these certain customers”
Sure she said, “FOP” you know – Fucking Old People
Tip: 15-20% – $2.00
It is good to be an FOP because you get a check once a month because of a ponzi scheme signed into law by a Democrat. You also get medical care because of a ponzi scheme signed into law by a Democrat. Of course those ponzi schemes are breaking the back of non FOP. I will continue to complain about those checks and medical care I receive because we cannot continue down this path of fiscal irresponsibility. When those ponzi schemes are changed to come in line with what the United States can afford I will not complain. But I will still get a dogie bag after I have paid my bill, left a tip and leave the restaurant. If there is a surcharge on the bill for ACA it will be my last trip to that restaurant.
BTW the ponzi scheme Part D signed by a Republican, I don’t have it.
This is ingenious on their part as they aren’t even complying with the law and it is not costing them anything to comply….
This would be even funnier if they already did provide healthcare to their employees (unclear) and then they are just using it as an excuse to raise prices – one that is so emotional for many consumers – they won’t even hesitate to consider that its total bull shit!
Ha, like I said ingenous!
…not costing them anything…
Incorrect. Research costs money whether you pay someone to do it or do it yourself. How do you figure all this crap lands back on Oshitforbrains desk 2 YEARS prior to the usurpation of the Constitution of These United States taking effect?
I can’t wait till the Feds make every one by a gun or penalize, excuse me, tax them if they don’t. To be fair if a person can’t afford a gun there will be a subsidy provided.
Single payer for all gun purchases would be better.
FITS and Brady, STFU about the Iraqi War. The Iraq War (unlike Obamacare) was SUPPORTED by Ds and Rs…and it was done as a national security action…It actually thwarted a monster before he grew, and it scared the $#!* out of a lot of other frogs who may have jumped if Gore would have not been rejected because of Clinton’s poor leadership…
It’s Effeminate, hand-wringers like you and Sanford who got talked into bashing Iraq, after you were all for it (John Kerry)…because the media slapped your Ignoarnt @$$ upside the head with it..and you caved.
You are the classic Child Punk. You go along, when there’s a crowd..but when the cool kids turn, your core-less @$$ turns too…
Like I said: You and Brady need to STFU…America is swirling down a rat-Hole because of effeminate spolied children like you…
Do you get that stuff locally or do you have to fly to Denver for it?
Simple solution:
ACA Surcharge: $0.20
Tip: 15-20% – $0.20 = Tip Left
Do the math on the receipt.
Correct.
“Instead of raising prices on our products to generate the additional revenue needed to cover the costs of ACA compliance, certain Gator’s Dockside locations have implemented a 1 (percent) surcharge on all food and beverage purchases only.”
I guess the obvious conclusion here has been too mysterious for many. Itemizing an ACA surcharge is nothing more than making a political point.
There are many other requirements and regulations that Gator’s Dockside franchises must comply with that are not itemized, but are a normal business cost. The owners just want to give Obama the finger, and maybe make some of their less-perceptive clientele blame Obama for the extra 1%.
Papa John was bleating about adding some piddly surcharge to his crappy pizzas to pay for health insurance for his employees. Then he heard from people who had become ex-customers and changed his mind.
I don’t understand why liberals can’t stay on point. You made an excellent one with the first two paragraphs and then drop into liberalism. Gotta take a poke at someone. Why?

I had a tea comment but Saluda Rapids beat me to it. Congrats, though, for eliciting a response from Big Teat, that included the phrase “some beech”. I like it when T tries to speak like a Mexican or a black guy. It is funny.
southmauldin: ” I like it when T tries to speak like a Mexican or a black guy.”
GrandTango: “Thank God I have a gun too…”
Be careful SM, “T” might “choo choo”.
Word. Now pardon me while I indulge myself in watching Party Down South, otherwise known as “Big T’s eeeeeenntyyre fambly:. These white trash are direct descendants of the “slap you in the face while using #$^**^ so he can’t properly curse” Big T. It is so difficult to watch this shit but train wrecks can’t be avoided and there might be a asskicking or a alcohol poisoning that I don’t want to miss.
thanks for remembering the “choo choo”….
Brilliant minds think alike. Definitely an off-the-meds day for T. Multiple posts is one clue…and then when the old stand by of the brainless baggers comes out (the Nazis), you know Momma T did not bring the meat loaf (or the meds) to the basement.
well it are Florida and they can’t spell iced tea… Ice-T is quite another issue. ‘course almost $7 for a hot dog tells me they’re dealing with the tourist trade and rich Dems that are charging off as expenses, like a third party payer.
That “party of one” must have been Hillary Clinton with a hearty appetite — although I give her credit for eating that chili dog without bread!
Someone has to pay for it. Liberals often forget that the freebies they depend on aren’t free. Someone’s paying for them.
Actually, NO ONE has said health care is free. That’s pure Fox News propaganda, and you’ve swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. Liberals and progressives simply want our national health care bill to be smaller and more in line with other first-world countries. You see, we actually pay attention. We know that lots of other first world countries have more efficient health care delivery systems that are cheaper. (You wouldn’t know that because you listen only to Fox News, while we look at actual numbers. You’ve never even wondered why hundreds of millions of people in those so-called “socialized medicine” countries don’t rebel and instead want to keep their public health care finance systems.). We know it’s cheaper if we all pitch in. It’s something that everyone needs, and that makes it a public utility.
We also know that when public utilities are kept in private hands. as they are in this country almost alone in the industrialized world, prices skyrocket and corruption soars.
And we don’t pull phony stunts like putting a purely political and unnecessary statement on a receipt.
We pay our taxes and don’t complain about doing our duty. But right-wingers always complain. They don’t care what’s good for their country despite what they say (just look at how they actually treat our veterans, constantly cutting their benefits, while liberals and progressives have to fight to take care of our vets). Right wingers are willing to let insurance companies continue to rip us off, charging us way too much and making our health care system the most expensive in the world while not delivering better outcomes just because Fox News tells them to. And they’re too dumb to realize that they’re paying more for their health care than they have to so that a hand full of oligarchs can get richer at their expense.
So you go ahead and keep spouting Fox News propaganda. Go ahead and ignore the fact that Republicans have NEVER left the country better off than when they found it. Go ahead and ignore actual numbers and facts. Our country will continue its decline in power and wealth, and your children will suffer for your ignorance.
