Exactly.

From The Usual Suspects:

“First day on the job, you know what I learned? How to spot a murderer. Let’s say you arrest three guys for the same killing. You put them all in jail overnight. The next morning, whoever’s sleeping is your man. You see, if you’re guilty, you know you’re caught, you get some rest, you let your guard down.”

Unfortunately, the “knock” they rec’d wasn’t “the” knock. No new information, really. Everyone in the family and involved in the case knew about the weird sexual hi-jinks attendant to this crew. If these two inbred jackasses are good for the probable murder of the Elvis girl, HCPD needs to find her body and stick it to their asses good, but that’s much easier said than done.

Apparently his reports of harassment were attempts to “out” investigators who were shadowing him very closely. Since he was being watched so closely they knew his reports were false. This includes them catching an investigator going through their garbage on security video.

They put up surveillance cameras on their own property, is what I assumed from a video she posted, and caught someone–an investigator?– going through their garbage. It sure would be interesting if they were implicated by their own surveillance.

May also suggest that , God forbid, the body is buried there and they wanted to know if anyone got close to discovering it. K9s didn’t hit. However, it takes an average of 17 days for the chemical compounds detected by Cdogs to reach the surface in an average grave of 2.3 to 3 feet per FBI records. Take into consideration the extreme weather of rain and ice and the possibility of a deeper grave considering the nature of their “compound” and a miss is possible. However if you look at Google photo they live adjacent to hundreds of acres of swamp that adjoins the IW and it is very unlikely it will ever be found without a confession.

Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct. I’m not familiar with the investigators “caught” digging in the trash piece, but that’s totally legal as long as the trash had been placed out for collection (or they had a warrant). If the trash was still up in the curtilage of the house there would be a 4th Amendment issue there. Of course if it was all made up by the asshats; moot point.

Surely you understand the difference between a business installing a surveillance camera for security versus one placed by a government to spy on you?

As a matter of fact, yes. Most, if not all, red-light camera systems are private businesses that contract with municipalities on a split-fee basis. These businesses send out the ticket, and if you ignore it, the local DMV suspends your license.

A Libertarian’s dream, no? Let private industry do a better job than bloated government.

So as long as a “business” watches you, as a surrogate for government, that is OK?

The business is not “watching you” as a surrogate for the goverment. They are doing it to protect their business — either for liability prevention (to spot phony slip and falls, for example) or to deter theft. And yes, that is OK if law enforcement happens to need to view that surveillance as part of a criminal investigation. The distinction between private surveillance versus public surveillance should be one that is not too difficult to understand.

You miss the point, again. Government, directly or indirectly by using surrogates, has cameras that observe your actions at traffic lights. It might piss you off, assuming you get a ticket, but I don’t hear the libertarians on here crying Big Brother about it like they do over the NSA. My question was, and still is, why is one OK and the other not?

Original Good Old Boy February 21, 2014 at 4:11 pm

No, I understand your point. It’s just a stupid point. And I’m not sure how I can make it any clearer to you. What a private business does for its own personal surveillance is completely different than what the government does. Just because a private business happens to create *possible* evidence that will be later used in a criminal investigation does not mean they are the surrogate for the goverment. If you swipe your card at a diner, and the police later use that to establish your abibi, that is simply called evidence. It is not the diner being the government’s puppet.

We are talking apples and oranges. I am talking about traffic cameras set up to ONLY ensnare those who run stop lights. It has NOTHING to do with private businesses.

Moot point brother – those ticket cams (red light OR speed) are illegal in good ol’ Sakerlina. Prohibited by an AG opinion since 2006, then hammered out of existence by statute in 2010 when some clown mayor decided that he was OK installing them as long as he let contractors do the dirty work, and pissed off the State House gang. At any rate, they’ve been gone for 7 or 8 years, essentially.

I wasn’t referring to SC only. It was the point that if you let the camel put his head in the tent, then it is just a matter of time before he is all the way in. If the populace allows traffic light cameras, how do they argue against the next iteration?

Mike at the Beach February 23, 2014 at 1:24 pm

We’re a mile off topic now, but OK. Traffic cameras and private surveillance are two entirely different worlds, SC or not. Traffic cameras (while stupid and highly annoying) are not Big Brother either. There is very little expectation of privacy in the Constitutional sense driving down a road created and maintained with public funds. Besides, we *didn’t* allow the traffic cams for long – the public outcry very quickly led to their legal demise, which was a good thing.

“A Libertarian’s dream, no?”

Actually, that’s called fascism-it’s different from Libertarianism, and libertarianism…

With fascism you’ve the mixing of both gov’t and private industry. It’s the gov’t that gives private industry control over you(by suspending your license if you ignore the fine).

I don’t see anything in the article above that mentions traffic surveillance. Perhaps that is what caught them, but usually it’s something like a camera at an ATM or at a convenience store, and the footage is turned over voluntarily or by subpoena to help an investigation.

You have no idea who’s cameras caught the perps but you make this tragedy political anyway. Empty headed thinking from a fanatic. The odds are overwhelming that these cameras were privately owned. You don’t care about truth unless it fits your agenda. That is intellectual weakness of the highest magnitude.

But for the grace of God.. February 21, 2014 at 2:30 pm

I always enjoy exploiting FITS articles for humor, etc but this is one story that is extremely sad. Having stumbled upon the Findheartherelvis facebook page a couple of weeks ago the sheer terror that this family has been enduring is unbelievable. These two have been taunting this family with posts (tammy caison moorer on FB and Sidney Moorer on FB) mocking their candlelight vigils, sending coded messages back and forth, and filing all sorts of crazy harassment complaints with the PD. The fact that this couple lived long enough to be arrested is nothing short of a miracle.

Hopefully these animals will be destroyed as quickly as our system will allow. May the Elvis family receive a miracle and their daughter be brought home safely and if not may they find some peace in swift justice.
