WINTER STORM BEGINS ITS MARCH ACROSS PALMETTO STATE
Powerful winter storm Pax is set to deliver a knockout punch to the Deep South this week – halting travel due to downed trees and power lines and leaving potentially millions of residents without power.
And guess what: South Carolina is line to receive the very worst of the system – potentially two inches of ice that could cause catastrophic damage across broad swaths of the Palmetto State.
“There isn’t a single model I see with less than 0.8 inches of freezing rain,” our meteorological source explained.
As noted in this post, that level of precipitation is expected to combine with sub-freezing temperatures and 15-20 mile per hour winds to do serious damage to the state’s utility system.
And the higher the precipitation, the more damage we should expect to see …

What should you do to protect yourself and your family?
Not much, at this point …
“For millions of Southerners, especially in Georgia and the Carolinas, the time to prepare is over,” an ominous report from The Weather Channel notes. “Now is the time to hunker down for this winter storm.’
As of 11:00 a.m. EST on Wednesday, more than 36,000 SCE&G customers were already without power – and that’s before the worst of the massive system starts moving across the state.
“And this fun goes on until 10:00 a.m. Thursday,” our source added.
S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley has already declared a state of emergency across South Carolina – following the lead of governors in Georgia and North Carolina.
Wary of ice forecasts in the Midlands region of the state, our founding editor moved his family to Myrtle Beach, S.C. – although dangerous conditions exist along the coast, too. In fact several large tree limbs have already fallen in close proximity to their location on the beach’s famed “Golden Mile.”

Sic – Please don’t perpetuate TWC’s naming of these winter storms.
That’s one of the many reasons DirecTV dumped TWC – they also wanted more money for a service they weren’t providing.
— and what is the purpose of naming a winter event “peace”..?
Let’s take the language *back*!
Let’s call storms “bad weather.”
like a fart is bad air?
No.. we’ll call them “the elephant that ran under grampa’s chair” like we always did.
No power outage yet. Intermittent sleet. Freezing rain earlier, produced 6″ icicles of off the eaves. Kids enjoying the day off watching the THRONGS OF BIRDS AT THE FEEDERS….. TBG’s going to put some more food out…….
*Flapping, chirping sounds*
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! MR HITCHCOCK!!!! PLEASE!!!!
AAAAAAUUUUUUURRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH……..
*Crisp eerie winter silence*
hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha
A much needed laugh after an overly long day!
Plenty of food for the birds. It’s an inspiration to me to see them out there full of life. I’m keeping a lookout for hawks, eagles, crows and vultures. Crows – they are large as chickens…..
who do you think you’re fooling?
weather is a hoax! It’s time we turned off the “weather” channel, and enjoyed the great outdoors!!!
The fastest clocked ground speed for a land animal is 87.5 mph, achieved by a fat, kosher, soup chicken during a common cold epidemic in Miami Beach.
We like hunkering down,don’t we,GT?
Meh..cold and rainy here in Mt Plastic. I hear the Ravenel bridge is closed, but I don’t drive over it so it doesn’t affect me. Chick-filet was open, so all isn’t bad.
Assortment of candles, matches, batteries and flashlights………..check!
Gas fireplace for heat….check!
Beer in fridge–ready to be moved to back porch if power fails……….double-check!
Bring it on!

We were out of power down this way for about 7 hrs. during the day. Lights came back on at almost dark. Love my Edisto Co-op.
Update: Without power for a couple hours. Everytime TBG hears the rifle like report of another pine limb snapping, he clutches his chest and yells:
“I didn’t know she was married!”
Yeah, so you know that feeling too, do ya’..? That’s what sells tranquilizers….
Myrtle Beach has the most sightings of UFO’s in the United States….
…I’m just sayin’…
