The Post Office Is Stockpiling Ammo

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) – a failing agency which has received billions of dollars worth of taxpayer bailouts in recent years – is arming itself. According to this solicitation, the USPS “intends to solicit proposals for assorted small arms ammunition.”

Yeah … so think twice before making one of its employees “go postal,” mmm-kay?

The USPS purchase is part of a recent ramp-up in the federal government’s stockpiling of ammunition … although the extent of these purchases is up for debate.

For example, pro-free market website Breitbart published an exhaustively researched article last year by reporter Tom Stilson dispelling some of the common myths related to these purchases – at least as they related to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“The concerns surrounding DHS stockpiling ammunition are nothing but more fear-mongering and largely unwarranted,” Stilson wrote.

Of course that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be vigilant as it relates to the trend toward militarization at other non-law enforcement agencies.

According to Info Wars, “as the federal government grows larger, more and more federal agencies such as the Dept. of Education and NOAA are forming and arming their own ‘law enforcement divisions’ with hundreds of thousands spent on full-blown arsenals. Even the EPA has its own SWAT teams conducting raids on peaceful Americans. Expect to see more large-scale firearm and ammunition purchases by these bureaucracies as they become even more militarized.”

Again, we need to boil everything down to core functions.

There are legitimate things government should do – and enforcing laws consistent with the protection of life, liberty and property is clearly one of those things. Delivering mail, on the other hand, is not one of those things.

We don’t object to the USPS purchasing ammo, then … we object to it existing as a government-run, taxpayer-subsidized operation.

Why do you need mail on Sat.? February 7, 2014 at 8:14 am

They are probably just stockpiling ammo so they can shoot troublesome dogs while delivering mail.

Kind of like how SWAT teams shoot the family dog whenever they serve a warrant.

It’s all OK cause it’s the government and they know best.

There is reason to be afraid. This obscene acquisition of ammo by various Federal agencies should be disturbing to any thinking person. They are stockpiling hollow point ammo, which is not useable by our military overseas due to longstanding international treaties regarding such ammo.

I hold companies such as Speer, Federal, and their umbrella organization, ATK, in extreme contempt for the way they are filling these orders for these agencies, while throwing the civilian consumer a turd to chew on with those idiotic 20 round boxes of handgun ammo which cost as much or more than the fifty round boxes they sell to government agencies. They make good stuff, but their corporate greed and lack of principle are sickening.

I don’t know what has become of all that .22 LR ammo, but I would not rush to discount possible government involvement. One popular theory is that a lot of the lowlife is buying it all up as soon as it hits the Wal-Mart shelves (and other places), then selling it online or a gun shows for three, four, or more, times its original price. Sorry, but I am not seeing enough evidence of that to make a dent in the mass shortage of .22 LR.

SparkleCity February 9, 2014 at 11:12 pm

Dumbshit lowlife buying/hoarding it is the only logical explanation.

There is not one ounce of evidence of government involvement in the shortage of .22 ammunition.

It’s hoarding pain and simple but there are so many dumbasses wanting to hang on to anything but the truth that it makes the truth moot as far as dumbasses like yourself are concerned.

The CIA is sending it all to the “freedom fighters” and or drug cartels in various places in the middle east that we have no business being involved in. They aren’t bound by any treaties because they aren’t governments. The poppy fields need security once the military leaves the sandbox, because CIA heroin has to make it back to the USA and other western countries to be sold to support their less than legal activities that can’t show up on budgets.

Just because FitsNews runs a stock photo of hollowpoint ammo atop this post does not mean that the USPS is soliciting such ammo, let alone “stockpiling” it.

Well, shit — let the NRA explain it to you:

Seriously. You should *know* that if the effing NRA is telling you to calm down about an anti-gov’t / anti-gun conspiracy, then maybe you should just calm your ass right on down. besides, Postal Inspectors actually do valid law enforcement work- interdicting terror money, dope sent through the mail, shipments of illegal weapons, smuggling, etc. Let ’em carry some rounds to go with those pistols, okay everyone?

Good Nite Irene February 9, 2014 at 1:11 am

As a former federal agent – not for the post office tho – I can tell you tone USPS agents are also the biggest single investigators of ID theft. Every federal agencies, even the zoological dept. Has 1800 series law enforcement and investgaor who enforce Title 18 USC criminal statutes that fall under the agencies purview. People can be such idiots. If this is ‘scary,’ then think about the US military ‘gasp’ their militarizing every day. Ahahahhhhhhahhhha

Mike at the Beach February 9, 2014 at 1:56 am

Right-o! I too was a fed in a previous life, and although I wasn’t a series 1800 (I was a counter-terr/intel guy, and our whole class and comp world was a different animal), I worked with standard 1800’s on cases here and there, though. Mostly FBI, unfortunately. ;-) Anyway, there are definitely some pretty strange fringe federal law enforcement outfits out there- the FDA, NOAA Fisheries, Dept. of Education, Dept. of Commerce, etc. Most of them are actually security outfits if you get right down to it. At any rate, they’re way to goofy and fragmented to ever pose a threat to the US populace, even if they did start a conspiracy. Alex Jones and crew should relax, at least on this one!

CorruptionInColumbia February 9, 2014 at 11:08 am

My faith and trust in the NRA has been steadily diminishing for quite a while now. Their steadfast support of pseudo-Pro-2A politicians such as Jake Knotts and Mikey Pitts has caused me to question their worth as a force for 2nd Amendment freedom.

Add to that, the video of Wayne LaPiere jerking off Harry Reid, and I don’t have much faith in an organization that three generations of my family, to include myself, have been members of for many years,

This is an end run around the 2nd ammendment by Obama. EPA regulations closed down the only lead smelter in the US. Government agencies buying up all available ammo it can. These are some of Obama’s Executive Actions. Dry up the ammo supply and firearm ownership becomes mute.

I think there is a very simple answer: The Postal Service, like every single agency which has made an obscenely large ammo purchase, is trying to reduce the amount of ammo in the hands of private citizens. It is a naïf plan that one would expect from an amateur administration. What they don’t understand is that serious arms carriers are still managing to get ammo from manufacturers for their customers. The Obamanuts will fail in this ridiculous venture as they have with ever other one they have tried.

But there is a bright side to this governmental silliness. In January of 2017, there will be a giant government ammo sale, but due to market forces, they will not recoup the price they paid.

Of course, Congress still has it’s grips on it even though it takes NO MONEY from taxpayers and most unreasonable demands come from Republicans, kind of like what Repubs to here with controlling road paving. Take a look at what happened when it wanted to end Saturday deliveries and article below states no funds come from us.

This article is FULL OF SHIT. It’s wrong on every front, but I’m sure the right-wing nut-bag conspiracy folks will eat it up (I don’t have to look at very many comments below to see that these folk will believe literally ANYTHING they’re told by propaganda masters like Rush and Glen Beck. The Post Office doesn’t receive a DIME from tax payers. It’s self-sufficient. That FACT (look it up) alone proves this article is full of crap. The only reason the Post Office is having trouble lately is because the Republicans in a lame-duck Congress back when Bush was in office slapped a flipping $5 BILLION (with a B) pre-funded healthcare payment 75 years in advance (for people that haven’t even been born yet) on it in order to make it fail. When the recession hit, they couldn’t afford to make the payments a few years later.

It doesn’t stockpile ammunition. That’s insane just like this article.
