He’s intelligent and ethical, which is much more than I can say about most in our government.
The more the government smears Snowden, the more incompetent it looks. If this dood was such an incompetent moron, then why did he get security clearances so easily?

It’s this kind of hyperbolic, anti-American nonsense that distorts the occasional valid point made during the libertarian rants here. Admittedly, both sides are guilty of it, but this shit is just plain over the top. Any fair-minded observer with even a smidgen of knowledge about the intelligence community (or who has access to the interwebs and the Google) knows that this Snowden cat is a self-important blowhard who saw his shot at fame and took it. That doesn’t mean that some of the concerns raised are legit, but the screamers who have anointed Snowden as their savior have selected an imperfect champion at best. Snowden rails on the dishonesty of the programs, even as he lies through his teeth to inflate his image. Here’s the 30 second greatest hits of his lies (abbreviated for Kool-Aid drinkers).
Broke his legs in Special Forces training? Not so fast – he dropped out of high school, and GED-toters can’t even apply for SF, even through the X-ray program. $200,000+ salary? Nope, another lie. Booz Hamilton confirmed that his actual ending salary was little over half of that. In his initial story regarding how he planned and carried out the plot, he lied about when he left home, which made the rest of the story fall apart. As a matter of fact, it has now come to light that the lie was likely to cover his contact with Chinese officials. Oh, he had previously denied that too, although the Chinese dimed him out on that one: China’s Ministry of State Security was in contact with Snowden during his stay in Hong Kong. No worries there! How did a high school dropout get this gig to start with? He lied on his resume, naturally (although some failures on the part of the CIA played a role in letting that slip through, he still lied). Perhaps most importantly, he’s 100%, no kidding, lying through his teeth about his ability to tap phones and look at the phone data without oversight as part of his job. Even other leakers are disputing this now, and it’s gotten so bad that the Daily Kos (!) even covered it. There are many more examples, but you get the point (I hope, anyway).
There are issues with the NSA program, to be sure. They do not, however, represent existential threats to our Constitutional freedoms, and Snowden isn’t the cerebral moral champion who’s saving us from our tyrannical government. He’s a self-absorbed liar who struck a good lick on his bosses. Let’s talk about the NSA programs, but only after taking deep breaths and not getting too wrapped up in worshipping this guy. He’s not that guy.

Well Mike, I see the rants here as more “anti-American government”, which I clearly distinguish from “anti-American”(as in the people).

Well, the government has told us before his releases that there was no spying on us going on in violation in the Constitution.
Now, after the releases, they admit that they have violated the Constitution. You yourself admit there are “issues with the NSA program”, somewhat cryptically.
I’m sorry, if we are going to throw around the “liar” label, the US government has admitted that it has, there has now been proof released(that forced them to admit it), and given its overall track record of consistent lying I simply attribute the US government or its lackeys no credibility what so ever.
They can call Snowden a liar, but I have yet to see any specific piece of proof other than anonymous posters commenting on the internet saying otherwise, whereas such proof has clearly come out(and continues) to the US government having lied to everyone.
The US government has ZERO credibility.
