Educrat Lobbyist Mulls Superintendent Bid … As A Republican

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again … there’s not a nickel’s worth of difference between “Republicans” and Democrats in South Carolina on the issues that really matter (taxes, spending, education).

Don’t believe us? Click here … or here … or here.

The latest manifestation of this reality? Molly Spearman – head of the uber-liberal S.C. Association of School Administrators (SCASA).

Spearman – arguably the Palmetto State’s most powerful educrat – wants to be its next Superintendent of Education, and she’s leaning toward running for the seat as a Republican.

At least that’s what several sources who have fielded calls from the veteran lobbyist tell FITS …

We like Spearman … personally, anyway. She’s never been anything but gracious and considerate to us, and her son Mitchell is one of our favorite members of the Palmetto political “Twittersphere.”

SPEARMAN
MOLLY SPEARMAN

Having said that, we would sooner impale ourselves on a rusty chain saw than support her bid for State Superintendent …

Spearman is the most influential lobbyist for South Carolina’s worst-in-the-nation government-run school system – which continues to fall further behind the rest of the country. She’s also the most powerful institutional opponent of universal parental choice – the one reform most likely to transform the Palmetto State from monopolistic failure factory into competitive, market-based 21st century growth engine.

Like it’s done in Florida …

Why does Spearman hate competition? Easy: Her constituency – an ever-expanding bureaucratic horde that’s accountable to no one -receives hundreds of millions of dollars in new money each year to produce a steadily worsening product.

It’s a taxpayer-funded racket that’s been going on for decades … all under the disingenuous “for the children” banner carried by Spearman.

In fact one Democratic operative chuckled when FITS called asking their thoughts on Spearman possibly running as a Republican.

“She’s more liberal than S.C. Rep. (Michael) Anthony,” the operative said, referring to the Democratic frontrunner for this seat.

Exactly …

I tried to find this groups tax returns. Can’t find them. Anybody know where I can find them?

Is this group in the SC Retirement System (PEBA)?

Spearman running for office is a good reason for us to look into what she (and her organization) have been doing for all these many years.

Totally agree w/ FITS. This woman needs to run as a democrat. And the Republicans need to dis-avow her, if she files as an “R.”

The party has control. It now needs to purify itself w/ only Conservatives.

Someone needs to bring this up at the Executive committee meeting next week. She seems to be part of the problem not part of the solution. Sherry Few is running for the position and is a staunch enemy of common core. Sounds like she would be much better than Spearman. I will have to do some more looking but that is how it looks so far.

are you serious? Sheri Few is almost as bad as Molly Spearman. Y’all in Orangeburg are so delusional.

Reply
RogueElephant January 30, 2014 at 10:45 am

obviously you don’t know anything about Common Core. I was waiting for one of my grandchildren at their school last year and was thumbing through a literature book. Of all things to find in a literature book was a story by Al Gore saying how the depletion of the Arial Sea was a result of global warming. 1- Why was this in a literature book ? 2- If you look the Arial Sea was dried up by Russian farmers irrigating far more land than the sea was capable of supporting. 3- Why is Al Gore in a literature book ? This was my first contact with Common Core. (The book was CC approved) Since then with a little looking I have been convinced this is not in the best interest of SC. Sherry Few’s main objective is to stop CC in SC. Good enough for me.

Employees of that Association, while not government employees, are in the SC Retirement ASsociation.
Spearman was a teacher, making, say $50,000 or so. By going to work for a non-govermental association, she will almost triple her retirement. benefit.
The taxpayers, I am sure, love giving their tax dollars toward this private entities retirement plan that is much, much, much better than the average South Carolinians.

Those associations are freeloading on the taxpayers and proper government employees.
Remove them from the system now.

Thomas Jefferson:
1786 August 13. (to George Wythe) “I think by far the most important bill in our whole code is that for the diffusion of knowledge among the people. No other sure foundation can be devised, for the preservation of freedom and happiness…Preach, my dear Sir, a crusade against ignorance; establish & improve the law for educating the common people. Let our countrymen know that the people alone can protect us against these evils [tyranny, oppression, etc.] and that the tax which will be paid for this purpose is not more than the thousandth part of what will be paid to kings, priests and nobles who will rise up among us if we leave the people in ignorance.”

If she does honor this state by running, I will vote for Molly Spearman. Molly is very influential, indeed. And she has more credibility in her little fingernail than you will ever amass in a lifetime. Molly loves her state – warts and all – and will work hard to move it forward (unlike you, who takes every opportunity to drag it down). To be honest, I don’t know why she’d even want to run as a Republican – they’ve done such a bang-up job over the past decade-plus in charge of the House, Senate and Governor’s office. Not to mention the disaster that Zais has been as state superintendent. But, it doesn’t matter which party she aligns herself with – I’ll vote for her anyway. South Carolina needs more Molly Spearmans.
I will vote for Molly Spearman.

Of all those running, Ms. Spearman is the best qualified regardless of political party. I will vote for her if she chooses to run and I hope she does. And let’s all thank our stars that Zais is not running. What a joke. Molly will bring some sanity back to administration of our educational institution.

I remember (late 90’s) when Spearman was an R, but joined 4 other Rs (like Jakie) to push forward Hodges’ Billion-Dollar school building plan. It was supposed solve ALL the problems, yet Haley is now pledging $160 million a year for those same schools that Hodges failed to build…

The true Rs had a pay-go strategy, that would have saved millions for the classroom and teachers, instead of debt service on facilities….

The State newspaper lauded her as a golden girl, like they always slobber over R aisle-crossers.

i love you FITS but your ignorance of education policy is well, typical. Spearman is not a lobbyist any more than anyone with a job and an opinion. SCASA is not the enemy you think it is. and your thoughts on ‘choice’ are just laughable to anyone living outside the half-dozen big, dense districts in SC.
