NOW THERE ARE THREE STATUS QUO OPTIONS …

As we reported on months ago, two big government fiscal liberals in South Carolina – one Democrat and one “Republican” – have teamed up to form a new political party.

Former S.C. Superintendent of Education Jim Rex – a hard core statist whose tenure in office from 2007-11 was an unmitigated disaster for South Carolina academic achievement – has teamed up with cigarette tax hike supporter Oscar Lovelace to create the “American Party.”

Wait … what happened to the “Free Citizens Party?”

Guess this is the name these two anti-free market politicos settled on … and filed with the S.C. Election Commission (SCEC).

Anyway, according to the party’s official website, its goal is to renew the American dream “by promoting work, term limits and common ground public-policy.”

Hmmmmm … “common ground.”

Obviously we’re all about the creation of legitimate options to the current two-party system in South Carolina, but this isn’t a new option … it’s the same Republicrat crap wrapped up in a new label.

“These guys aren’t providing an alternative to the status quo, they’re providing amplification for it,” we wrote in our initial assessment of Rex and Lovelace’s new political party.

Of course not everyone is likely to hold such a dim view of the “American Party.”

S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley has to be thrilled with its emergence … as her already flailing Democratic opponent Vincent Sheheen must now waste time and (scarce) resources making sure Rex and Lovelace don’t peel away liberal voters from him in this November’s election.

If “it’s the same Republicrat crap wrapped up in a new label.” and “These guys aren’t providing an alternative to the status quo, they’re providing amplification for it,” it’s hard to imagine this hurting Sheheen more than Haley.

If that poster says “Are you sick and tired of Jim Rex?” Then the answer is yes, yes I am. Does Jimbo reallllly think he can win another election?

Lovelace is left of Sanford. Lovelace talked about expanding gov’t healthcare, and other gov’t, when he challenged Sanford. He thought gov’t is not doing enough in the lives of individuals…

This is not a Republican and a liberal. It’s two liberals.

I dont give a damn about this new party, but describing one of its founders with the presumed epithet,”cigarette tax hike supporter” is pretty weak Fits.

Think up something new or your old reliable,”RINO.”Being a supporter of a cigarette tax hike just really doesnt stir the juices!

Seems to me these days that out of work college graduates gravitate to either start a blog, start a 501c charity or work for both since they can’t get a job with the state. Whatever happened to sharpening your pencil, and going out there and start companies that are not another restaurant or handyman service or used car dealer? Learn how to use a TI-83 plus or the TI-Nspire CAS and your ass will follow you all the way to the bank to make deposits.

Three things, Lovelace previously won 28iish% of the GOP primary against a sitting and still wildly popular GOP gov. now US rep again – so couldn’t they peel votes away from either side?

Secondly, the American party, wasnt that the predecessor to the know nothing party which ran on a nativist platform in the mid 1800s? Come on guys.

Thirdly, they have about a 1 in 4.5 million – what our population again – chance of winning. What’s the fucking point gentlemen, egos that underfunded….

He won 35%. And Sanford was never “wildly” popular, despite what his cult followers would have you believe.

Dr. Q, I personally can’t stand the guy, but he remains undefeated in SC elections including 2 statewide elections. Then wins congress by a landslide post divorce and post payback of fines after completely embarrassing the stat on a national scale. I stand by my assessment of wildly popular.

At least they have the balls to start their own party, unlike the Libertarians and Tea Party jokers who’s strategy seems to be to take over the Republican party.

Rex has no credibility. He took the Superintendent of Education job for the sole reason of using it as a stepping stone to the Governor’s Mansion. He had no intention of trying to do anything worthwhile as SOE and did not deserve the position of Governor. One more opportunist slug we can live without.
