PICK YOUR POISONS …

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention, the “Republican” Party is coming apart at the seams as factions of increasingly divergent political ideologies battle for a shrinking pool of the electorate.

And the camps are getting increasingly belligerent …

In one corner we have big government “neoconservatives” – fiscal liberals who are wholly owned subsidiaries of America’s military industrial complex. These “Republicans” want no changes to the status quo in Washington, D.C. – with the exception of perpetual funding increases for the bloated U.S. military.

In another corner we have big government Bible Thumpers – fiscal liberals who are wholly owned subsidiaries of the religious right. These “Republicans” want no changes to the status quo in Washington, D.C. – with the exception of federal funding for abstinence education and a host of other socially conservative government programs.

Finally, we have the so-called “whack-a-doodles” – fiscally conservative, pro-free market, pro-liberty voters who for the most part have aligned themselves with the Tea Party movement, which cropped up in 2009 in response to the initial overreaches of the administration of Barack Obama. This is the fastest-growing wing of the party, although it is every bit as splintered as the GOP itself.

Against this backdrop of division and declining relevancy, the Republican Party is doing a straw poll of the thirty-two politicians it believes are legitimate contenders for the 2016 presidential nomination.

In alphabetical order, they are: U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (New Hampshire), former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former pizza mogul and 2012 presidential candidate Herman Cain, neurosurgeon and author Ben Carson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, U.S. Rep. Peter King (New York), New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (Kentucky), former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio), former Secretary of State Condi Rice, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (Florida), Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.), U.S. Sen. John Thune (S.D.), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former U.S. Rep. Allen West (Florida).

Phew … right?

Right …

The straw poll asks Republican voters to choose their three favorite names from the list … and provides a write-in section in the event you’d like to vote for someone who didn’t make the party’s list.

And yes, to actually cast your vote you have to surrender your email address to the GOP …

Anyway, here’s the link …

I was wondering if anyone would notice I was mentally disabled as a child… good call! I can see how that could be amusing, so I’m not offended or anything. My mom said “laugh with them when they laugh at you!” It was good advice, don’t you think? Ha ha.

No, actually they wouldn’t allow me on the short bus because of my spastic tendencies… I’d just *go off* and start screaming, frothing and spitting all over the place… you know, like a seizure and stuff. You’ve seen that a lot, I bet.

Since I come from a redneck family without any money, they couldn’t really afford an education for me so I grew up stupid… and that’s why I don’t have the IQ to appreciate the deep philosophical questions being posed today by the tea party like you normal people.

Don’t pity me, just try to accept me for what I am – stupid.

I’m rather shocked they included Ron Paul on this list. They’ve spent the last six years ignoring him, hoping he’d go away.

Reply
SCBlues January 25, 2014 at 6:07 pm

It’ll take a lot more than hope to make Old Ron go away – and Junior too for that matter. The Republicans will have an R. Paul in the Presidential Candidate Lineup for years to come – and will never, ever elect one. I think 2016 is going to be just as entertaining as 2012 – the Republican Primary Debates are always big fun.

As far as his son goes, he’s going to support his political career, but that doesn’t mean his supporters will. Even FITS doesn’t seem to like Rand as much as Ron.

No doubt about it. The Republicans being offered up are a warty bunch, and the ones waiting in the wings, like a Sanford, are no better. But consider that the Democratic challenger, Hillary Rodham Clinton is as flawed. Were the media, elitist progressives, mind-numbing, disproved social-engineering re-distributionists, some vaulted, no nothing celebrities, some misguided feminists, and legions of gimme-gimme voters not at her back, her narrative would be no better.

There you go: a blanket statement for a blanket statement.

euwe max January 26, 2014 at 11:39 am

you’re right, of course. Hillary is no bargain, either. After being a Senator from New Yawk, she can’t WAIT to earn street cred by attacking Iran. She was sounding off about the Republican Guard during the campaign so loud, I could practically see the ruins under her feet.

The only consolation would be the continued run on blood pressure medicine from the extreme right, every time she said something about “womanhood,” “family values” or “women’s rights.”

That whole “It takes a village” thing had me in stitches! And the threat they felt about her confiscating their guns, tying them up with a golden lariat and forcing them to tell the truth – priceless!

Reply

That Congress poll is put out there to give dim-witted leftwing drones something to hope on…Why do you think I’m always imploring yall to think for yourselves…???

Congress is not elected nationally. They are the most local of all federal gov’t elects. Congress members are closest to the people, and depend more on smaller, local media than the more liberal national propaganda machines for the left…

The fact that Congress is majority GOP should scare the $#!* out of you…because that is the mood of the people, district by district. It is far more representative than the ability to get that Charlatan Obama elected, vs a moderate Republican, you were able to demonize, and it’s easier to cheat for Obama, one man, than it is for hundreds, where control is more local…

And if we PRIMARY the moderates, Congress will get more Conservative, and Slap the $#!* out of Obama even more after Nov.

I think we pick up big numbers in Nov. and hopefully get the Senate. We can at least castrate Obama…then wait for 2016 to finish the job…and fix the big mess he and the democrats have made…

I won’t donate ten cents to the RNC, because they are slandering those of us who are Constitutional conservatives

Since when were republicans conservative about anything?

I have been harrassed by the RNC fund raisers and telemarketers over the past 18 months…the RNC, much like the DNC, no longer appears to represent the tax paying, patriotic, hard- working Middle Class…consequently, I refuse to give what little money I have left to pro- amnesty elites who cater to the Chamber of Commerce over the backs of the increasingly shrinking American Middle Class…

Is that the list of potential candidates…or the cast list of the remake of “It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad world”?
What a bunch of clowns!

I thought the remake starred Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer, with

Debbie Wasserman Schultz playing the Jonathan Winters part.

If I could chose I would want a Democrat Senate, a Republican House and Dave who runs the hardware store in Leaksville, Ms. for President. That would keep the Government so tied up and bickering that they wouldn’t have time to Fark with anybody.

Why not put the Knesset in charge and skip the middleman?

Well, no John Huntsman? Pity. I’m going to miss seeing an adult in the room during the debates. Condi Rice appears to be the smartest person on this list. No, that’s not a compliment. If the public is reminded about the Bush administration, the GOP isn’t going anywhere. Some of these people will be really amusing if they turn into candidates though. Still, all of them would be terrible for this country.

She’ll never make it – her voice quavered when she confessed to “forgetting” what the CIA chief told her about uranium before the state of the union address.

Not such a bad idea about Condi, but we all know what republicans think about black people. Won’t happen.

Yes, the Republicans fought a war to end slavery. Whilst the Democrats are the paerty of racial hatred…the Party of Jim Crow…the Party of the Klan…the Party that punishes successful black Americans like Dr. Ben Carson….how dare he leave the Liberal Plantation! Wonder if the IRS will audit him again this year, or if he ” has learned his lesson”…

White people in SC were totally Democratic untill the civil rights movement. They moved to the Republican party in the mid-to late 60’s. Why do you think all idiots in SC vote Republican all the time? Check it out and learn your lesson grasshopper!

So you are okay that the Obama Administration is openly discriminating against high- profile minorities like Dr. Ben Carson just because they disagree with Dear Leader’s political philosophy? I would be ashamed to applaud such un-American, intolerant, and hateful practices…but then again, I am not a fascist or a PROG…Grasshopper….

Deo Vindice SC January 26, 2014 at 5:59 pm

No, not at all, Obama was the lesser evil. Our country cannot keep going to war at the drop of a hat. We cannot afford that. You do realize Iraq had nothing to do with 911, 0, right? I do not condone usless wars. To see my friends die and others with permanet damage makes me sick. I knew a Dem was a better choice on that issue.

StallChaser January 27, 2014 at 4:30 pm

How exactly was Ben Carson discriminated against? Be specific. Are you familiar with the Southern Strategy? The neoconfederates jumped over to the Republican side a long time ago. We’re no longer living in the 1950’s, neither the real ones, nor the fantasy ones that Republicans like to imagine.

FPrefect January 28, 2014 at 12:28 pm

Exactly how is the Obama administration discriminating against Ben Carson. He’s only a high profile minority leader because he’s a black Republican. Since the GOP only has a handful of those, all of them automatically become high profile. He’s generally regarded as not being a very bright person. He compared homosexuality to to pedophilia- usually a sign of ignorance. He did apologize after the sheer ignorance of his comments were brought to his attention and he was appropriately ridiculed. Still, can’t put that bigot genie back in the bottle.

He denied the reality of evolution- also generally a sign of ignorance. Here’s the fun kicker though- he didn’t do it by putting forth a valid alternative which explains all of the data. No, his criticism was fair or scientific. He did it by dishonest characterization of the process. He had to lie about evolution to support his position. That makes him a douchebag.

So based on Mr. Carson’s own words, he’s both a bigot and a douchebag. The man calls himself religious but like most firebrand religious types, he’s more full of hate for others than he is with love and he’s contemptuous enough of genuine science that he feels a need to lie about it.

I’m sorry though, you brought up this bigoted douche because he happens to have dark skin and be a republican but you mentioned that he was somehow discriminated against? How? In what way? Despite everything has going against him, he seems to be doing quite well for himself.

We all know what the Democrat Party has become. The progressive movement has been extremely successful in turning a once respectful party into a bunch of European style socialists. Unfortunately, the progressive movement has also infiltrated the Republican Party (think – Lindsey Graham and John McCain). Voters have stayed home during recent elections because a choice between social and socialism-lite is really not a choice. Help to change the direction of the Republican Party towards limited government, individual and economic freedom. Give the voters a true choice between tyranny (Democrat Party) and freedom (Republican Party) and watch as we return to the constitutional representative republic as envisioned by our founding fathers. Join the Republican Liberty Caucus today and help save our republic!
