An openly gay Democrat has announced his intention to run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson in this November’s election for South Carolina’s second congressional district.

Ed Greenleaf – a manager at Medicaid/ Medicare administrator Palmetto GBA – sent an email this week to a list of supporters informing them of his plans.

“The paperwork has been filed with the Federal Elections Commission. The Exploratory account has been closed and the new bank account is open and ready to receive revenue,” Greenleaf wrote in the email.

Greenleaf’s formal announcement will take place on Wednesday, February 12 at the Seibel’s House and Garden (1601 Richland Street) in downtown Columbia.

“I thank you for your love, friendship and support over these many years and will need that support flowing heavily in mine and Michael’s direction over these next few months,” Greenleaf wrote. “I am entering this race knowing full well what I am doing. But, I have to do this for the citizens. They want a government that works together again in Washington. They want good paying American jobs created in this district. They want the federal budget balanced and reflective of the people’s values, not those of the special interests.”

Interesting …

Wilson has represented the second district since winning a 2001 special election to fill the seat vacated by the late Floyd Spence.  He is best remembered for his 2009 outburst during a congressional address from U.S. President Barack Obama – in which he famously yelled “You Lie!” at Obama.

A fiscal liberal for much of his tenure in Washington, D.C., Wilson has swung decidedly toward pro-free market views in recent years – although there is some evidence he could be swinging back.

Ideologically that is …

Anyway, like any candidate for any office, we look forward to seeing what specific policies and proposals Greenleaf brings to the table in this race.  Our website endorsed a Democrat against Wilson in 2008, and we’re obviously not afraid to do it again.

So he’s a Swinger? So we get to pick between a Swinger and a Homo?

When is who someone sleeps with gonna finally be a non issue in this discriminatory society of ours? Disgusting.

Why does it matter if he is homosexual? Just don’t keep throwing it in our face!

I think 9″ wants it thrown in HIS face, though. Just a hunch.

I can’t vote for any man that would do something I wouldn’t do. Now a lesbian would be exempt from that condition.

Who cares if he’s gay?

Oh, right, we care more about superficial shit like that in this country than what people actually intend to do in office.

I wouldn’t vote for Wilson to clean out my septic tank. No that would be derogatory to septic tank company employees. I wouldn’t vote for Wilson for dog catcher. No that would be derogatory to animal control employees. Hell, I just wouldn’t vote for Joe Wilson.

I guess that shows how much you know about the South Carolina Senator – anyone that doesn’t know he is gay must be blind, deaf, and dumb.

But he ain’t gay! He said so himself!

Reply

Of course he isn’t going to admit that he is gay; if he did, he wouldn’t keep getting re-elected by right wing conservatives! Unbeknownst to you, his mysterious longtime BF lives in DC!

MashPotato January 24, 2014 at 12:14 pm

Are you immune to sarcasm? And do you have any more details about Lindsay’s secret bf?

Attention bigots: slandering Greenleaf does not hurt him; it earns him pity votes. Be respectful and don’t embarrass yourselves.

I know this means nothing coming from a nameless person on here, but Ed is a good guy. We could have a lot worse in office, and do.

I used to work for Ed Greenleaf – don’t care if he’s gay or an alien, he was an okay boss but I wouldn’t vote for him if he was the only choice, I’d write Will Folks in first.

Reply
The Colonel January 24, 2014 at 12:00 pm

Ed’s a good guy, stylish dresser, well spoken, smart, works hard – but he is decidedly more worried about consensus and political correctness than doing what’s right. He’d be further left than I would accept – much further left than Spratt was.
I’ve learned from working with “consensus builders” like Ed that the truth is generally the opposite of the considered opinion.
Now why Will – easy, he’d be so busy throwing bombs and causing problems that they’d spend all their time dealing with him and have less time to screw me over write new legislation.

Reply
Norma Scok January 24, 2014 at 12:51 pm

If you really worked at BCBSSC like you say, you’d realize that working along the consensus and being PC is the only to get anything done there. “Go along to get along”, but in the end, getting what you want regardless.
Pragmatism wins every time.

And now we know why I left many years ago…

I was an original PGBAite (Palmetto Gubamint Benefits Administrators – pronounced Pig Ba)

vicupstate January 25, 2014 at 11:57 am

Yeah, the last thing Washington needs is someone who can find consensus.
I have found the real ‘truth’ is indeed in the middle. I don’t want the social safety net to be destroyed by the right, but I don’t want it so strong that the freeloaders destroy it either.
Extreme right or extreme left both lead to disaster.

The Colonel January 25, 2014 at 12:13 pm

The problem with “consensus” and “consensus builders” is that most political ideologues believe you’ve reached consensus when you agree with me. Anything else is extremism and many will go along just to avoid being labeled or having to defend a correct but unpopular position: examples, the war on drugs, deficit spending, many “social” programs, immigration…

first of all, who doesn’t love any kind of attention? every single person loves to receive attention, whether they admit it or not, isn’t that why you posted your comment? to draw attention to yourself? if that is the only flaw you can call him out on then I’d say he’s doing a pretty good job. and second, if you knew him personally, you would know he’s a great person and has a kind heart and is only doing what he thinks is best. but I’m guessing you don’t actually know him and that you’re just a close minded person who loves the small amount of attention :)

Discrimination:

The most basic element of individual human freedom. It may be considered “disgusting” when done by race, sexuality, etc., but it is a simple and basic freedom/choice.

That is why it must be controlled by the state.

Why is the ‘gay’ thang such big news? Didnt an openly gay lesbian already run once twice for congress here down at the coast – supermarket hheiress/scion or something of that ilk. Its sort of an anomaly to get a democrat to even run here, much less a qualified one, so maybe the headline meant ‘hey this gay guys running and…wait for it, he’s a democrat’

oui vey

When Al Gore ran for president a Democratic group was discussing the chances of getting a candidate who would appeal to a larger group of voters. One of the solutions was to find a “black, lesbian nun.”

A person’s sexual orientation, race, religion, and/or gender should NOT be why you vote for a candidate, Position on the issues, work ethic, common sense, ability to work with others (ones that agree and disagree), honesty, and integrity should be the reasons you vote for one candidate over another. I’m so damn tired of the log jam in Congress, I’m ready for some new blood in Washington. I personally know Mr. Greenleaf and I’m certain that he will be that new voice for all of South Carolina. I’m glad he’s running and he will have my full support.

I voted for Wilson a few times but he’s become too entrenched in partisan politics rather than doing what’s best for his district and he’s long since sold his vote to special interest. I don’t care who my Congressmen wants to screw as long as it’s not the taxpayer!!

Sorry Mr. Greenleaf. I just got a robot call from you asking me to support you. No. I am happy with Mr. Wilson. By the way, are you aware that the insurance application in California informs undocumented or illegal people registering for Obamacare, that it is OK because they won’t turn them in. So, illegal immigrants will get subsidized health care. Mr. Wilson was correct when he informed the President that he knew he was not telling the truth and unfortunately the President has continued his lies with Healthcare, IRS, Benghazi, etc. etc. No. I will not vote for you and wish to keep the only person in that room that day that had the guts to tell the truth in front of many. If all of them had the guts to tell the citizens the truth, it would be a good government.
