Lies are tacky little things. Like I have been 100% faithful to my husband, yet wanted to leave him for another man.

Never wanted to leave my wife, who I truly love — just wanted to have sex on a regular basis with someone other than a cold fish.

If she wins the election, it will be bitter sweet. Bitter because we’re stuck with the little girl for 4 more years. Sweet because she and her brood will not come back to Governor’s Grant for 4 more years.

Just like all government regulations, common bore will cause more problems than it fixes.

Against government regulation? Move to West, Texas! Oops, you can’t. Move to West Virginia and drink up!

Why on God’s green Earth anyone is against using the common core standards that the state VOLUNTARILY adopted is beyond me.

I think Common Core is the leftist’s response to another program founded by true patriots and academics that excludes a marxist-socialist-nationalist tainted education that is gaining world wide acceptance. This time tested curriculum has been the backbone for providing young people a world class education thus enabling students to reason, think, critique for themselves. I present to you and others who never heard of this before (been around since 1968) the International Baccalaureate Degree for children ages 3-19.

“The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”—International Baccalaureate Mission Statement

The states did not “Voluntarily” adopt it. They were bribed with Federal Race to The Top dollars (that oh, by the way we did not win any), and our Dept of Ed had less than a month to submit the 30+ page application, and did it while our Legislatures were not in session. That is not by the people for the people. Now the state is dealing with the backlash of all the invisible strings that were attached to the Race to The Top application because we jumped head first into adopting standards that were not even written yet. Race to The Top applications were due November 2009 and the Final Draft of the Common Core standards were not released until May 2010. How do you voluntarily adopt something you have not reviewed yet?

Having government administer uniformity in how & what kids are “educated” in is a dangerous thing.

The only subject I could think of trying to apply that towards would be math, where 1+1 always equals 2 no matter which state you live in.

The problem even there? How many children need what level of math(if any), for success?(which still completely disregards their innate individual ability)

Now, when we move to history or art for example, you can just plain forget about government administered continental uniformity. Allowing government to determine what is or is not history(or art) uniformly is flat out dangerous, aside from the troubling implications of placing that power within their hands.

Better to have variation and outright difference, just to keep everyone honest.

Common core is the best we’ve got. It will help us be globally competitive. NCLB ruined education. I don’t understand why a few people want us to be less educated. Oh, easier to control.

Before the Feds got involved we use to be globally competitive.

You are an idiot! You should research Common Core rather than believing everything on the surface.

My Mama's a Teacher January 24, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Are you a teacher or are close with someone who is a teacher? Common Core is THE WORST thing to happen to SC. Every single teacher I know cringes at it and prays for it to end. It is negatively affecting our classrooms.

Reply
SCBlueWoman January 24, 2014 at 4:08 pm

Common Core requires teachers to work and teach. Some of the older teachers are running scared. If preparing our kids to be competitive on the world stage is a negative thing, then, I guess it is.

Her education reform plan includes money for technology improvement. What does this really mean? We are getting the state ready for new standardized testing for the 2014-15 school year, as required by the Smarter Balanced Consortium. Per Zais, “Our schools and districts face increased demands on their hardware and Internet access. Without technology upgrades, districts cannot accommodate new mobile devices, meet “Technology Readiness” standards, and handle online testing that schools will begin implementing next year.” Common Core alignment is costing the state loads of money. Think this is really “state-led?” All states that have adopted common core answer to the Smarter-Balanced or PARCC Consortia. Note that these are federally funded.
