CLEMSON, SC – Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley announced today that he will return for his senior season with the Tiger football team. The defensive end from Adairsville, GA was a consensus first-team All-American in 2013, helping the Tigers to an 11-2 record and number-seven final national ranking in the USA Today poll. It was Clemson’s highest final national ranking since 1981.
Beasley led the ACC in sacks with 13 and finished second in tackles for loss with 23. His sack figure on a per game basis was third best in the nation and his tackle for loss figure on a per game basis ranked second. He led the nation in tackles for loss per game against teams that finished the season with a winning record (19 in eight games). He was also 10th in the nation in caused fumbles with four.
Beasley had a strong game against Ohio State in the Discover Orange Bowl with four tackles for loss and a sack, a big reason the Tigers defeated the sixth-ranked Buckeyes, 40-35. It was the most tackles for loss in a bowl game for a Clemson player and tied for the third-most tackles for loss in any BCS Bowl game dating to 1999.
Beasley was named a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation, USA Today, Sporting News and Sports Illustrated among others. He was a second-team selection by the Associated Press and the Football Writers Association. He was a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award, which is given to the top defensive end in college football, and was a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award and the Lombardi Award.
Three times this year Beasley was named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week, in Clemson’s wins over NC State, Syracuse and Boston College. He was the national Defensive MVP for the first half of the season by ESPN.
Beasley achieved all this in his first year as a starter. He played just 304 snaps over his first two years. He had eight sacks as a backup in 2012 when he helped the Tigers to an 11-2 record and number-nine national ranking.
Beasley has 21 career sacks and needs just eight in 2014 to break the school record of 28 held by Michael Dean Perry and Gaines Adams.

Heard no agent would take him. He likely had low projected draft potential from the NFL.
Shut up asshat. You make us Gamecock fans ashamed that you are a fan. He was a late 1st/high2nd round pick. He chose to listen to the lies that Boyd were told, and he will get the same results. He is an undersized DE that ran up numbers on a backup NC State tackle early in the season. Next year he gets Clowney treatment and drops in the draft, just like Boyd did when Daboohoo sold him a bill of goods.
Oh, and, BBBBRRRAAAKKK! Liberal! BBBRRRAAAKKKKK! Slap you in the face! BBBRRRAAAKKKKKK! Obama sucks! BBBRRRAAAKKKKKKKK! BBBRRRAAAKKKKKKKKKKK! The Big T parrot is back with a vengeance!!! Welcome back – the board was much more intelligent, yet less interesting, without you.
Ask Braxton Miller if he has ever met Beasley.
BTW I am glad Big T (or whatever he calls himself now) is one yours. He also said Watkins probably couldn’t make USCe’s team and if he did he would be a bench warmer.
I hate Clemson but I would take Watkins over just about everyone on our 2013 roster except Ellington, and that is because of Ellington’s ability to catch the ball. Big Teat is a joke. I’m surprised that he hasn’t said that Catanzaro would be lucky to make a CFL team. Delusional.
I don’t think you can measure Miller with Beasley. It’s all about beating the LT off the snap. Next year teams will key to him, although not many ACC teams will have the players to double him and contain the other DE. I expect a big year from the other DE, though I thought a big year from our own Chaz Elder and I was sorely mistaken. Dabo might do to Beasley what he did to Boyd. Cost him several millions, in other words.
Boyd, and before him, Kyle Parker & James Davis. These guys who stay are not only delaying getting paid this year, but delaying their second contract-which is where the real money is now (assuming they actually last that long).
Catanzaro is a GREAT kicker. I was scared of him, because I hate Clemson. He did miss a kick in the bowl game, I think. I was hoping that was an omen. but OSU was really hurt or just not real good…so it did not matter…
You’re claiming to be a Gamecock now? You have been a Tater fans (to me anyway..) Did you post w/o changing your moniker…or do you think you can change, and no one will notice???
Anyway: I’ve posted for SC and as a Conservative for years. And the hateful Liberals always choose to worship their gods of liberalism, and bash Gamecocks, if they really are Gamecocks. It’s religious level zeal.
Seems like you could separate the two, but most liberals are too F*#kin simple-minded, and the contempt to deep, to do that. Just letting you know that it really makes you look like a small-minded Dumb@$$, of sincere.
You, sir, are simple minded at best. How did liberalism make it into a conversation about Vic Beasley.
Vic Beasley is a first round pick. Sammy Watkins is one of the top ten college players I have ever seen. But then, I watch football and understand the game.
That by the way if from a lifelong Gamecock and a 1984 graduate of USC. But then, unlike you, I am not a simple minded dildo.
If Beasley is a first-rounder, he is a MAJOR, MAJOR Dumb@$$ to stay at Clemson.
Watkins would be avg. in the SEC. You are clearly a product of media hype as your guide…not true analytic ability….
PS: Most simple-minded people have a hard time w/ analogies. I’m expert with them. But it is not a surprise that you struggle to understand clearly connected inferences…It’s why you’re a dumb@$$ liberal…
Watkins would be avg. in the SEC.
Watkins would be a star at Florida State.
(There are some subtle implications there, BT/GT. When your mom brings down your lunch pablum and meds…get her to ‘splain them to you…)
What gets me about you Dumb@$$ liberals…is that you attest to your intellect, based on your opinion…
I just don’t think Watkins would be all that great playing Bigtime college football (SEC) week in and week out…
Just because all the liberals, or Tater fans agree…is no more credible than my opinion…look at CJ Spiller or D’Quan Bowers. Yall all said they were all-world, I said “overrated” …And both have been disappointments when compared to the Tater-media hype. Yet, like Obama’s failure after failure, yall never learn…you just keep spouting the same ol’ ignorance…
You are welcome to speculate…but to keep proclaiming your opinion, after you’ve looked so stupid, just makes you look spiteful.
Yeah. Riiiight.
TBG looks stupid and spiteful.
Sure. … mmmmmmmmmOK.
Were the Florida basketball players dumb a few years ago to stick together and come back for their Senior year?
Not familiar w/ that situation. But Beasley is making a stupid mistake…and is likely getting some bad and selfish advice to help save a desperate, coach in Dabo, who is about to lose his crutch (Morris)….
Hey Dummy, which is it? Is Beasley good or not? One day you say he is a sorry dud: the next that he is a first or second round pick.
You would not know the difference between conservatism and liberalism, if they smacked you in the face.
No, but the former Clemson player that paid you $20.00 was
We Clemson fans are paw-roud to count BigT/GrandTango as a Gamecock!!!
Cock-a-doodle Doo!
He’s one of you!!!
This young man, a real deal athlete, is going to have one more year to learn how to use his hands, recognize developing plays, and learn how to use his instincts and natural ability in order to play linebacker, the position he is destined to play in the NFL.
“…This young man, a real deal athlete, is going to have one more year to learn how to use his hands, recognize developing plays, and learn how to use his instincts and… another 12 or so chances to have a blown ACL….
TBG feels somehow…unclean for siding with BIGT/GrandTango over Frank Howard….
ANY player for any school that has the skill set and work ethic to play in the NFL should do it. They can “improve their skills” while being paid $100,000s a year.
As much as any fan, TBG wishes that skilled players would stay at Clemson for their full eligibility…but that is being selfish. From a monetary, as well as a risk/reward standpoint…it is a no-brainer.
No problem, TBG, it’ll wash off with Texize. Stop off at Mauldin and get a gallon next trip up.
I’m thinking that the draft status didn’t show quite as high as reported by the press. Could be the only real explanation.
Dabo still has some dribble on his chin.
If he is truly as good as we’re told, he’s a MAJOR idiot to stay at Clemson..
Given that his projection was the 2nd round and many “experts” have predicted him to go higher, I think he made a poor decision. There used to be a huge payday if you came back and worked yourself into the top 10 or 15 picks. The new CBA limits rookie contracts so much that, if you are going to be picked in the first couple of rounds and thus likely be guaranteed a roster spot, you come out and start the clock towards free agency.
And I don’t know how much he will improve his status for next year. He is not going to get any bigger, and I doubt Venables will change his scheme to let Beasley show his coverage skills. All he has done is expose himself to injury and second guessing of his skills. But if he wants another year of school and thinks he can increase his chances, then good luck to him (in all but 1 game of the year).
I do hope he did not rely on Dabo for an impartial assessment of his choices. Dabo treats early entries as recruits he has to lure back to school, their own interests be damned. Dabo even says Watkins, who will be a top 10 pick, had a “decision to make.”
