Seven in ten Americans have not changed their opinion of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the wake of the bridge scandal that rocked his administration a week ago, a new NBC News/ Marist poll reveals.
Additionally, 44 percent of respondents say they believe Christie is telling the truth when he says he had no knowledge of his underlings’ efforts to exact political retribution by closing lanes of the George Washington bridge.
“The numbers suggest it’s far from politically fatal for him,” Marist pollster Lee Miringoff told NBC News.
Last week, Christie’s aides were busted shutting down access ramps to the George Washington Bridge in an effort to create deliberate gridlock in Fort Lee, New Jersey (home to a Democratic mayor who refused to endorse Christie’s 2013 reelection bid).
This week, Christie is facing fire over the alleged misuse of disaster relief funding provided in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.
Christie used the money on “marketing” television commercials starring him and his family.
The NBC News/Marist poll surveyed 1,200 adults nationwide from January 12-14. Its margin of error is plus or minus 2.8 percent.

These snap polls right after a “scandal” breaks are of little value.Lets wait and see how this thing plays out.
Remember in the immediate aftermath of Watergate, Nixon was doing well in the polls and won a landslide reelection. We all knows how that turned out.
The polls right after Hurricane Katrina showed most thought George W Bush had done a “good” job.A few months later? Not so much.
This is in the style of “move along, nothing to see here” spin.
The recent revelations that Christie did meet with David Wildstein on 11 September, three days into the traffic jam, yet claimed in his marathon press conference not to have had any contact with him.
A great picture has turned up with all the culprits appearing to have a fine time taken at the 9/11 memorial ceremony. It will be pretty hard to explain that away.
For Republicans, this is a rite of passage.
What’s hurting Christie is breakfast.
Who cares about Nikki’s new pork chop ?
