What’s a “Tea Party” governor’s solution for fixing the nation’s worst government-run system of education?
If you answered “more government spending,” you’d be correct – at least as it relates to S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley. Once among the Palmetto State’s preeminent supporters of market-based education reform (and funding reform), Haley has now completed her ideological U-turn by proposing to pour an additional $156 million into South Carolina’s failed status quo.
Haley wants to pump $97 million into districts with high poverty rates, $30 million into new reading coaches and $29 million into new technology.
“Providing every child in South Carolina with the same educational opportunities isn’t just something we should talk about – it’s something we should be actively fighting to achieve and that is what we are doing today,” Haley said.
Wow … so says the woman who hasn’t substantively addressed education once since her 2010 campaign …
South Carolina already spends $12,000 per child on government-run education – not counting bond money. That’s more than four times the average private school tuition.
What’s that investment gotten us?
Nothing … in fact South Carolina is falling even further behind the rest of the nation.
Nikki Haley used to understand what it took to reverse this chronic failure. Sadly, once she got the GOP nomination in 2010 she began to abandon her support for parental choice in favor of more middling “reforms.”
Now she’s totally in the pocket of the same failed establishment she used to rail against …
Oh well, ideological reversals (at the expense of the taxpayers) are sadly nothing new to Haley.

Looks like a cockroach, walks like a cockroach, talks like a cockroach
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise – it is a cockroach
I wonder if the eggs she has deposited in the walls of the Governor’s Mansion will be hatching little ones for years to come after she’s out of there.
Indian shit will have to be removed, with taxpayer money. Why did you guys do that ? The transparent movement ? OR just a R ?
Honestly, I thought she would be far superior to Sheheen, who comes from a long line of professional politicians. Sadly, I was wrong. Won’t be making that mistake (her) twice, though.
More republican spew, R party is done, plain and simple. The world cannot stand for them. Lie’s, Lie’s, That does’nt mean the truth, they are paid for, like Nikki. How did she win ? Answer ?
She sell’s clothes ?
When she is done, ” It’s a great day in SC “. At least a start !
Friends, let’s be honest to each other and ourselves, Haley was a horrible mistake that must be remedied/1
Yes, I voted for her also and I WAS WRONG! I MADE A MISTAKE!
“There is no education in the second kick of a mule” and “if you continue to do the same things over again and again, while getting the same bad results, that is the definition of insanity!”
We screwed up with Haley! Please, Please, let’s not do it again! She has lied and betrayed us through her first term, should she be given, or deserve another?
THE CORRECT ANSWER IS NO!
Many times, in political races we must make a choice between, “the lesser of the evils”! I do not believe a vote against Haley is a vote for a lesser evil! I think almost anyone would be better.
My friends in Camden tell me Senator Vincent Sheheen is a wonderful and honest person! I intend on voting for him as a “lesser of the two evils”!
And just in case you are wondering, I am a Republican! Who has held elected office, served in the Legislature, and had much success in life.
I will vote for support and contribute to Sheheen!
Please friends, think about what is best for our State, not our party and it IS NOT a VOTE for HALEY!!
It’s Obama
Keep showing this picture of the Goobernator. It makes my macular degeneration a little more tolerable.
Sic likes that pic because it is proof of the dab of spooge he left on her left cheek, back in the day.
Dam, I left shitloads, she should be blind
Flip’e, Flip’e, elect me, I’m the R person in charge, I will make it a republican school system for all to advance. How long she been there ?
Hey everone, lets all vote republican to stay on the bottom. Horray for SC !!!! Horray !!!
So you are actually going to argue that the average Private School Tuition in SC is less than $3000 a year? Who publishes that number? Because Private School Review says, the national average private school tuition is approximately $9,114 per year. The private elementary school average is $8,076 per year and the private high school average is $11,590 per year. According to that organization, in SC the average tuition for Private School is $9,304 for High School and $5,678 for Elementary School.
I guess its that worst private school in the nation math that makes the difference. Or perhaps just more disinformation from the Voucher crowd.
Give us Tea, or Death !
Dumb as dirt. As a retired teacher with 34 years of classroom experience, I can say without reservation this is about politics and not learning. How about someone providing facts about dropout rates, discipline offenses, SAT scores , college success and pregnancy rates comparing private schools to government run schools.
Careful there, Davis. Too much Lee/Clarendon/Darlington County truth might cause this website to fall off its wobbly axis.
Sorry to learn of “Miss” Dot’s recent passing. I know how important she was to you.
thank you for your condolences.
Who are you non Ymous?
LOL. We’ll get around to that one day. But you know me well.
May it be sooner than later.
Come on , tell me who you are.
Dude! Did everyone at TCI retire after Will left?
She’s Fits’ girl.
I am sick of Libertarians pretending to be Conservatives. Why don’t you just join the fucking Libertarian Party?
The GOP and Dems own the political process, they really have no choice.
If you want people to join other parties lobby the GOP & Dems to open up the electoral process.
