Clemson, SC — Sammy Watkins has been named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. With the selection, Watkins becomes the first football player in Clemson history to be named a first-team All-American by at least one service in three different years.

Watkins was named a first-team All-American as a freshman all-purpose player by the Associated Press in 2011. He was just the fourth true freshman in college football history to be named a first-team AP All-American.

In 2012 Watkins was named a first-team All-American by College and Pro Football Weekly. He had been named a second-team All-American by Associated Press, the Walter Camp Foundation and many others this year, but the announcement by the AFCA on Wednesday was his first first-team selection.

This year, Watkins has 85 receptions for 1237 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has seven 100-yard receiving games this year and 14 for his career. He needs just four receptions in the Discover Orange Bowl against Ohio State to establish a Clemson season record for receptions.

For his career his 224 receptions are fourth in ACC history and his 3164 career receiving yards rank fifth.

Is it the Pop Warner League that named him A-A???…Because that is the level of football in the ACC.

He likely would be a reserve if he could make the USC team. But congrats all the same….

If Watkins opts for the the draft, adjust your rabbit ears on May 8 and see where he goes in the first round. I assume that is the Pop Warner league of which you speak.

If a team is Stupid enough to take Watkins in Round 1, let ’em have him. RGIII won the Hesiman over Andrew Luck..so if you fit the pop culture, liberal myths, you get paid…regardless of merit….

It was funny to see the liberal sports media $#!* all over themselves when they found out RGIII is a Conservtive…after he was given the Heisman…..

But it looks like the NFL GMs might have learned a lesson from drafting CJ Spiller in the first round. What a Dumb@$$ move that was.

And if Sammy has to beat real talent, not ACC-level…he may have trouble.

Yeah, I don’t see how CJ will be able to get by with only a 5 year $25 million contract. Poor guy is probably on food stamps.

@CNSYD – Don’t mind ManBango. He’s a lonely malcontent who never played a down of football in his life. He never lets that get in the way of commenting on anything he perceives as slighting Scar. He never lets facts cloud his argument.

(I sense a glorious story coming from ManBango about how he played in 12 Superbowls and taught Bear Bryant everything he knew Wait for it…).

6 catches 127yrds Georgia
7 catches 93yrds South Carolina
ACC-level? Please do a little research prior to commenting.

hold on now. 60 yards came on just one play that he couldn’t even get into the end zone because the SEC was faster than what he was used to seeing against the JV teams. They bend not break as you see by them holding Cle5on to 27 points less than their “, average”so with the rest it was only 6 catches for 33 yards. You said 7 catches? It was like 4 drops too, he is scared to take a hit and drops the ball. he is ACC-level and that’s all

William R. Murray December 21, 2013 at 1:29 pm

It is evident now that you are just a pure hater rather than being a true analyst of the game. What guy doesn’t want to give a guy credit for literally out running his defender, run laterally, avoiding two tacklers (waiting for him) to get about 60 yards? I guess Georgia is not from the SEC.

hypocrites December 21, 2013 at 9:50 pm

I guess he must be the same kind of “true analyst” you speak of that say Clowney is over rated because his “stats” are down when he is double and triple teamed on every play, while the other team runs halfway across the field away from him. But I will ask in 3 years has Sammy ever scored on USC?

William R. Murray December 21, 2013 at 10:02 pm

Glittering jewels of colossal ignorance on full display. When you can’t nullify a person’s point, just change the discussion; deniability 101 (elementary).

hypocrites December 22, 2013 at 1:14 am

I didn’t change the point, just pointed out if one will over look the obvious then some one else can too. You want me to only talk about Dropkins? Ok, the fact is 95% of the time Sammy would have broken that 60 (actually 57) yarder for a touchdown. But in this 5% it was one of the few good D’s he sees in a year. The defense that he played that night was faster than what he is used to seeing in on a normal Clemson schedule. Yes he is good, but no he wouldn’t do that every game against good defenses. Not even saying only SEC D’s, just saying good D’s. Against UGA, yes he had 127 yards, but 77 came on just one play on a busted coverage. FSU he only had 68 yards all game. Go back and watch the play again against USC. He broke away from the 1st guy but the rest were ready the whole way, and ran lanes to stop him from going “all the way”. He thought he had it, realized he didn’t because of the containment from the other backs, didn’t know what to do, so he slowed down hoping to try something but was surrounded, realized he had no where to go, and ran out of bounds so he wouldn’t get touched Deon Sanders style (just only 60% as good, but still good none the less). After that play he was a non factor, some part because Boyd chocked and also because he was scared to catch the ball if he might get hit and dropped it like he has a big tendency to do in those situations. How is that for staying on subject, which I never went off because you asked an open ended question to which I gave an open ended response. You were talking about nullifying a persons point, I assume you meant seeing if it was universally valid or not so I will tell you. I majored in logic and deductive reasoning, and trust me if you want to I can go back and forth with you on this, but after a bit it would be “elementary” or just plain rude of me to string you along only to bust you at any time, so I will just say if you want we can agree to disagree, and give you a way out. There is a way on both sides here to make each point valid, but minus one play (which many tigers say that’s all someone who is considered by better qualified experts than any of us, the best player in all of football had) I used that same “logic” back against a Tiger whose fan base is usually the 1st to attempt that point. Is Watkins good? sure. but if you take away “the one play again as tigers do” what else did he really do? Again I will ask, and its for a reason. Did Watkins ever get a score against USC in his 3 years? (hint a Heisman winner keeps getting dissed because he didn’t against Clem5on). Does that mean he still wasn’t the winner of the biggest individual award in all of football and there for one of the “best”? Your answer will tell if you know how to proceed with this debate. remember I was on “discussion” for as long as I needed to be on this. If you want to talk about going off subject I suggest you speak to one of your own. CNSYD makes a living of that one here. for your sake I hope its not the “4th quarter” of this discussion as Tigers don’t tend to do well there against Gamecocks. The final will still be the same result of late, so where does that leave us? (I have on purpose left many opportunities here for you. Which one shall you attempt?

William R. Murray December 22, 2013 at 7:15 am

I will attempt neither; my point has already been made “Rabbit Hole Master”.

hypocrites December 22, 2013 at 10:54 am

If he opts for the draft?
In any other place, there would be no question he goes pro. But Dabo, of course, will try to convince him that he needs another year, just like he did with Kyle Parker and Tajh Boyd, and it cost both of them (especially Parker).
I agree he will go fairly high in the draft. Against every team not-named USC he was a dynamic receiver and one of the best in college football. Against USC he was known for dropping balls, not scoring, and being on the losing team every year.

CNSYD December 18, 2013 at 8:29 pm

All Dabo advises is that if you don’t get a first round grade then it is better not to go. First round is where the guaranteed money is. I heard Parker was starving to death in MLB.

Original Good Old Boy December 18, 2013 at 10:26 pm

LOL. If Parker is starving in the MLB, I’m sure he could use that $900,000 it cost him to return for one miserable boo-filled season at Clemson.
Dabo also told Nuk Hopkins he was making a mistake last year. How did that turn out?
He has said Vic Beasley needs to come back. Dude is a projected first rounder.
Dabo doesn’t give a shit about these kids. He begs, pleads, and puts them on guilt trips in hopes they return.

William R. Murray December 19, 2013 at 1:04 am

You obviously are grossly informed. Please stop while you’re behind.

Original Good Old Boy December 19, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Which part am I grossly informed about? Please enlighten me.

Mutch January 11, 2014 at 10:37 am

First of all, he told all of his juniors to stay in school, except Sammy, which he specifically told him to GO PRO. He didn’t beg him….

Original Good Old Boy December 18, 2013 at 10:28 pm

Also, we shall see how it turns out with Boyd, but I doubt his stock was ever any higher than it was after the LSU game last year, when he had a chance to be the 1st or 2nd pick in a VERY weak QB class. My guess is he lost a lot of money coming back just so he could go 0-4 to USC.

haha December 20, 2013 at 1:16 pm

Dabo does not accurately advise his players. He begs them to help him instead of what is their best interest. Boyd’s stock dropped from last year to this one. Sammy will not have a better stock than he has right now, and Dabo will still beg him to stay. Truth is after losing Boyd, Sammy, Vic, Bryant, and a few others (not to mention the real coach of the team or puppet master Morris) Clem5on will be lucky to win more that 7 games next year. Dabo’s wont last much longer either. Not when 5 becomes 8 in 3 short years. Dabo’s Tigers are on the endangered list you know

I have to laugh. This site is crawling w/ Clemson fans and liberals…

The two most disgusting groups in South Carolina and America… The two groups already have the media on their side…and what makes the media look like Dumb@$$#$ ….

While conservatives and SC fans need competent media more than any group…and there is very little, if any…

But what a F*#kin weak cliché, like all liberals and Clemson fans, you are…
