Nikki Haley’s FB Fans Love Nelson Mandela (Not)

Like pretty much every politician in America, S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley took to her Facebook page to offer her thoughts on the passing of former South African President Nelson Mandela.

“There are no words to describe the impact Nelson Mandela had not just on his country but on the world,” Haley wrote. “May we all continue to learn from his courage, his grace, and his incomparable strength.”

Haley also quoted Mandela as saying “courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Pretty vanilla, right? We think so … but try telling that to Haley’s followers …

Here’s a sampling of the overwhelmingly negative response Haley received from her fan club …

Come on, Nikki, he was a murdering, racist, Marxist, terrorist scumbag!Wade Smith

May his worthless soul rot in Hell.Larry R. Smith

I love Governor Haley, but why celebrate a terrorist? Will you people be having an Osama bin Laden day? His terrorist, anti-Semite organization blew up the Johannesberg train station and innocent women and children died. He was an avowed Communist and supporter of the PLO.Don Benghazi Hooker

Mandella was a socialist goon who comitted the end of his life to eliminating white people.Phil Miller

Wonder how many millions of $s he milked from the US tax payers through foreign aid?Brian Owens

He was an unapologetic Communist who adored Stalin. Read his own words if you don’t believe me. Google “How to be a Good Communist”, his own personal handwritten manuscript.Michael Bloom

Some people believe the myth that he was a great man because the media said he was. He was a communist and a terrorist who hated whites and was responsible for many deaths. Just one of the reasons Obama is going to the funeral. He did not go to Margaret Thatcher’s funeral. Nuff said.Teresa Holmes Taylor

Mandela was a devout communist, a terrorist, and a horrible human being. I love you and have nothing but praise and respect for you Gov Haley, but you got this one seriously twisted!!!!John-Michael Harris

I think her Facebook was hacked by the bozos who leaked state income tax. Do not celebrate a terrorist. If you think he was a good man it may be time for your replacement next governor’s election. My two cents.Jeff Hunter

Wrong on this one, Gov. Mandela was a devout Marxist who’s left a legacy of retribution that’s plaguing s. Africa even now. To date, 4,000 white S. African farmers & their families have been brutally murdered by Mandela’s supporters with no consequences and virtually no media coverage. Sad. Just sad.Christopher Owen

He was a common thief and murderer that lived of the backs of others. Come on Nikki, tell it like it is. He was a South African hitler, don’t glorify that. !David Sturgis

Wow …

UPDATE: Oh, and here’s South Carolina political consultant Richard Quinn making a national list of Mandela-haters.

Good thing people from the north had it in their hearts to take pity on the south and help them build roads and learn to feed themselves.

It was agriculture in the Antebellum South that helped make the South wealthy and was once of several factors in Lincoln’s decision to invade(on the basis of tariff collection).

You are truly an uninformed idiot.

Reply
A face in the crowd December 6, 2013 at 11:50 am

You are correct. It was slave-driven agriculture in the South that kept it afloat for so long, until the north corrected it, as it has had to do so many times since the Civil War.

Your face is in your ass December 6, 2013 at 11:51 am

So you are admitting that you were wrong about the “North” teaching the South how to feed themselves?

A face in the crowd December 6, 2013 at 11:56 am

I actually don’t believe that. I just love to yank CNSYD’s chain.

CNSYD December 6, 2013 at 12:56 pm

Now remind me who those ships were owned by that brought the slaves here. Also, look up the 1850 census data and see which states had slaves. Could any of them been north of the Mason-Dixon?

Sure, as soon as you go read the Southern states’ secession documents.

Mandela was a commie. It’s interesting when the average social media slut shows more understanding of the world and some of its political figures than a sitting governor of a US state.

I don’t think it’s the average IQ of these types that has risen, I think it’s more of a reflection of the IQ of the one sitting in office.

Was SA run as a communist state? I don’t think so.
We need to worry more about right wing fascists than commies in the 21st century. People like their iPhones too much to worry about commies.

I don’t really care if Mandella was a communist or whether he supported Israel. I just have a problem with the media ignoring any negative things about SA after Mandella took power. There are now areas of SA where the women face a 115% chance of rape. That’s right. 115%. Literally every woman in certain areas will be raped, many more than once. Yet, we’re led to believe that SA is some sort of racial paradise.

“I don’t really care if Mandella was a communist”

Well, think of it this way. If you accept that communism destroys property rights, which destroys economies, and that violent crime rises substantially in environments where people can’t make a living….you then might want to consider the fact that he was a communist as important in the context of the rise of crime in general.(including rape)

interesting thing is that Mandela had the overwhelming support in place when he was president to transform the form of government in any way he wanted. Well, he chose to be the president of a democracy and step down at the end of his term. Makes for a pretty poor communist.

He could have also successfully terminated all of his enemies in SA or imprisoned them, but he did not. makes for a pretty poor terrorist.

Proof of the man is in his actions.

As to other comments about current problems in SA. I suppose you are right. They still have problems arising from race and socioeconomic issues. I guess he failed to fix all of those problems in the time he had. I guess he should have looked to us for an example of how to solve those issues.

Reply
Jackie Chiles December 7, 2013 at 10:30 pm

Legitimate points all. Mandella personally was a great leader, but I don’t think he left SA in a strong position when he left office. Still an incredibly driven person, and he should be admired for that.

Reply
HaleySupporter December 10, 2013 at 10:51 am

Unfortunately, there was only one Mandela. He turned SA over to people who couldn’t continue his mission, whether due to incompetence, corruption, or just the fact they weren’t Mandela. He admitted he failed when it came to AIDS and poverty, but he said he would serve one term and he kept his word. Not too many current politicians keep their words these days.

I guess some Repubs — those without much education or knowledge of history — will have to be reminded the sainted Ronald Reagan was a key supporter of the apartheid regime in South Africa, as was Dick Cheney and, of course, Ol’ Strom and Jesse Helms. Maybe Haley doesn’t know those facts? Maybe a line can be drawn from their support of apartheid to the present-day fanatical opposition to Barack Obama? Was Mandela a communist or, at least, a fellow traveler? Yes — but if I has been in his shoes, I would have been a communist too. Which group was anti-colonialist? Which group urged organized opposition to the apartheid regime? Not us. Not the West. We were part of the problem. When Mandela went to prison — SC was still segregated, so were we the beacon of freedom? .

Your acceptance of Andrea Mitchell’s version of history speaks ill of your capacity to be qualified to breed. Stop listening to the narratives put out by the corporate media. It is a narrative of their political posturing around a news event you are listening too, not news about the event.

“The ANC [African National Congress] remained banned in the country [South Africa], but its military wing continued to operate within Southern Africa, with assistance from the Soviet Union. The decision to align with the Soviet Union would later haunt the ANC, as it alienated the United States and Great Britain, which were otherwise inclined to support the anti-apartheid movement (and did so, albeit in limited fashion). While Mandela was in prison, the Soviet-trained leaders of the ANC’s army committed human rights abuses in military camps outside the country, and used terror attacks on civilians inside South Africa.”

Begs the question — which nations supported the apartheid regime and which supported anti-apartheid forces? As in Vietnam, Central America, and elsewhere in Africa, we abandoned nationalist movements, democrats and those seeking self-determination in order to protect the authoritarian status quo. Didn’t Ronnie R veto the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act? After his veto was overridden, didn’t his administration thwart the sanctions at every turn? Was the ANC a guerrilla army? Yes, but by what other means were they to fight? Maybe they should have just rolled-over again for the white man?

Why does an on-line discussion have be insulting? I suppose those who can’t debate in civil terms doubt their own persuasiveness or the strength of their positions.

And what in the world does Andrea Mitchell have to do with it?
