The nice thing about covering news in tiny hamlets across South Carolina is you start building readership in those tiny hamlets … well, to the extent the indigenous populations are literate (THANK YOU government-subsidized education).
And when you start building a readership, you start getting scoops from those readers.
For example, shortly after posting an item on the notoriously corrupt government-run school system in Dillon, S.C., we began receiving word from several sources alleging problems with the county’s environmental agency, too.
Specifically, multiple local residents tell FITS Dillon County’s waste disposal centers are not properly handling any number of toxic chemicals – including mercury from fluorescent light bulbs and radioactive material from smoke detectors.
They also tell us local media has chosen to “turn a blind eye” to the problem – with is beginning to impact the county’s water supply.
“Someone needs to help us,” one county resident told FITS. “We are not a sign you pass on the interstate. People live here.”

Sic Willie the environmental scientist. Please provide the evidence of the effects on Dillon County water supply. You know, the laboratory test results. Since the residents of Dillon County are as dumb as you say, I am sure they can read a lab report, right?
BTW, does Howie Rich accept “government-subsidized” as a substitute for “government-run”?
Go to Bureau of Water at DHEC for this one Sic.
DHEC can’t do anything right because it is a government agency. We need to find a way to charge people for discovering whether they are drinking radioactive water.
DHEC doesn’t charge?
Uh oh…FITS jumping in bed with the enviro-nuts…
Obama wants to charge you to breathe, and who was that Whack-Job presidential candidate who FITS liked? I think it was Johnson, who called himself a Republican, and had FITS all excited…He is a global warming Dumb-@$$ myth-lover…
Nothing worse than a common idiot, but an @$$-backwards imbecile latching onto liberal ignorance…That describes FITS, and this redneck-tree-hugger in Dillon…
The stupid just want power..if they can use an Obama-tax for living, and claim humans destroy the planet, they’ll try to screw you that way…
Nice job at looking like a dolt, FITS…You show yourself to be more easily led with each passing day…
I always thought maybe GrandTango got into some lead paint as a child, but maybe it is just mercury poisoning?
Could be, but he lives in Pelion on Bub Schumpert Road, which is the WORST brain-rattling washboard road in the USA…..
Yeah, golly-gee guys… anybody who does not march in lockstep w/ your ignorant F@*king pop culture clichés, MUST have some defect….
You people are so F@^*king lost, you cannot even express why you cling to leftwing mythology and the ignorance that defines you…
You just know that you follow everything Obama-FITS and Co. feed you…and the best you can do is attack anybody who challenges the lies and fables that under-pin your @$$-backward belief system…
GrandTangerine, how about pulling your finger out of the light socket….
GT, would you please get the rake and leaf blower and take care of my damn yard? I don’t pay you to troll the nets all day. Sic paying you for this?
I’ve been eating corn and have new Asian poo fetish DVD’s for our next rendezvous.
Actually from what I can tell he lives in West Columbia. In a trailer off of like Hook Ave?
TBG suspects iodine deficiency.
Also, it has been alleged that his mother dropped a record player on his head although GrandTango insists that it didn’t effect him *skip*…didn’t affect him *skip*….didn’t affect him *skip*……
People throw away CFLs and smoke alarms in their regular trash as it is instead of properly disposing of them. Lord knows how many are in the landfills now. The mercury in light bulbs isn’t a good thing, but from reading the EPA’s website, the radioactive material in smoke detectors doesn’t seem to be horrendous (albeit it has a humongous half life). Seriously, it says if a small child swallowed the radioactive material in a smoke alarm, it would pass so quickly that there probably wouldn’t even be any real damage (although this isn’t true if it were in powdered form):

If this is affecting the water supply, I’d like to see some testing results. All kinds of shit can be in water, and generally there are acceptable levels for some stuff. Let’s get some objective proof.
My point exactly. But then it wouldn’t be sensational.
Anything coming out of da DilloCo is suspect.
This whole article falls squarely in the ‘not a big deal’ category.
They ought to be concerned about all the oxycontin, etc, hormones that they are flushing down their toilets and what that’s doing to the people in the next town down the stream.
They also tell us local media has chosen to “turn a blind eye” to the problem –with is beginning to impact the county’s water supply.
TBG offers proofreading services for a nominal fee. As always, snark and juvenile humor are free.
