WASHINGTON, DC –Today, Representative Mark Sanford released the following statement regarding the Senate vote to invoke the “nuclear option”:
“The Senate Democrats’ vote today to end filibusters for most presidential nominees is an unprecedented action, and another example of how the political process in Washington is breaking down,” Sanford said.
“For one, the Senate has had a tradition of careful deliberation that’s been around for over 200 years. It’s a slow moving process that can be frustrating at times, but ultimately the rules have worked for every single Congress for the last two centuries. The idea that Senate Democrats in 2013 can decide to change the rules written in 1787 just because they don’t like what’s happening is incredibly troubling.”
“Second, we’re increasingly seeing a top-down system taking over in Washington. The entire point of the Senate is to listen to the views of the minority… yet removing the right of the minority to filibuster means that their views matter less than those controlling the debate. There are real concerns here no matter who’s in power, and I think we can’t take those concerns lightly.”
“Today’s vote seems to me to be part of a larger problem with the political process in Washington. Whether it’s the recent abuses of power by the executive branch, or the tendency to budget via Continuing Resolution, the overall trend is concerning. I think we ought to carefully consider how these actions are affecting the underlying political process.”

’tis true. Guess Sanford wanted to add his voice to the chorus for the folks back home. Can’t have Rand Paul getting all the good sound bites and air time.
Fuck you, you egotistical asshole. Have you married your whore yet?
Not as far as we know, but surely she will write a piece that mirrors his comments in Argentina media.
Have you cheated on your whore yet?
A better question for sure.
This is so dumb. Senators didn’t used to be such partisan assholes that they would filibuster a judge nomination just because the president picked him. The first one happened about 2 decades ago. Not 1787.
I don’t begrudge filibustering a nomination if the party feels that the particular nominee is too radical or something is generally wrong with them. I have a problem with blocking a good percentage of nominees out of political disagreements, but if you’re letting some through, no biggie. What I think is indisputably a problem is what the Republicans are doing now, essentially blocking all nominations to garner political favors that they have no hope of achieving otherwise.
You can’t grind the system to a fucking halt just to get your way.
McConnell bitched and moaned about Obamacare when Reid had his speech regarding the nuclear option. Really? This shit has nothing to do with health care reform, it has everything to do with getting around unprecedented obstructionist bullshit.
Sanford can bumble on about careful deliberation all he wants to, but everyone knows that’s not what Republicans are asking for. Not one bit.
Democrats will rue the day they pulled this in 2017 when Republicans control both ends of PA ave.
By then I’ll be in another country laughing my ass of at superstitious, right wing religious zealots turning the U.S. into a third world shithole. Have at it.
Cant be any worse than what the dope we have in office now has done. (BTW, economy was booming and unemployment was at 4% in 2007 when Republicans last held both ends)
I cant help be gleefully watch the house of cards Barry and his idiot supports build on quicksand as it burns to the ground :D
I’m not an Obama supporter, but I’m sure as hell not a hypocrite, Christian revisionist. The fact this POS was reelected, and, the republicans ran true nutjobs pols instead of competent ones against Obama shows how dumb all over this country is. Truth hurts, but hey, why don’t you and Marky go take a hike ;)
You seem confused. Can you take your bovine sewage evolved from monkeys, baby killing, homosexual marriage, family destroying, left wing, communism death toll revisionist, election stealing, Obamacare hypocrite, Democrat wacko friends with you when you go to another country? You all have turned America into a shit hole.
Thanks, bigot! My point remains intact.
Don’t look now, I think GrandTango has some competition.
Didn’t you already renounce YOUR citizenship? Self-deport already, asshole.
Promise?
Yes. Now move on.
Where are you going to move?
There’s lots of liberal, real socialized medicine, non-boggieman believing countries with a better quality of life, and overall happier countries to choose from. You may be brainwashed enough to really believe in that Americam Dream bullshit…well, guess you can if you have already enough backing from big money to ante up with.
So you can’t name any countries. If there’s so many great countries out there, then why not move now?
What’s this twenty fuckin’ questions? Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, or The Netherlands, which I have family there. Why don’t I move there already? Waiting on the wife’s retirement in, you guessed it, 2017! Whoo fuckin’ hoo that we don’t have any children. Seriously, I hope The U.S. will get it together for my friends and their kids. It just makes me sad to watch kooks like the kochs buy your politicians.
The twenty questions is I think you’re full of it. Why are you complaining about U.S. politics when you’re leaving anyways? Are you actively learning the language of your future homeland?
Those countries are Germantic in nature and many speak it. English is also very common these days as well. Admittingly, I’ve tried to up with the German language since my four years of it in college, but could study more. I know the difference of the low and high dialects, which just comes with practice. We’ll be fine, thanks.
I’m complaining because it’s so corrupt. Just because I have options doesn’t mean don’t care about the good people affected by these jerks in charge. Well, you have certainly got a bite from me, now I’ll get some work done. Actually, it’s been fun but see ya.
Hey, they have immigration policies there. They might not take you so fast since you haven’t been paying into the system since your cradle days. Are you going to renounce your Social Security benefits from the US? How does that work? Do you have to renounce your citizenship?
Retirees don’t have little hoops to jump through. No, you don’t renounce citizenship, unless maybe you’re trying to get in as a refugee, lol. Also, I have family in The Netherlands that live there through their employers. So, if you’re younger, you’ll most likely need skills and the ability to pass a simple test of the Dutch language within eight years. Also, have a clean criminal record. Jesus, now I’m sorry I even responded to this thread.
It sounds like Jackie wants to stalk you.
Lol. Maybe I should tell Jackie I’m a Scorpio and like long walks?
You are dreaming!!
Well, it is either they rue weakening the filibuster or Republicans rue making the filibuster a tool of outright and unrepentant obstruction.
Of course, we’re assuming that Republicans wouldn’t have just weakened the filibuster the second they got control just to avoid that bitch of a payback.
Dead on, Smirks!
The Democrats would likely be too wussy to deliver the kind of payback the GOP so richly deserves.
But you’re right; the current radicals of the GOP probably would have invoked the “nuclear option” the minute any Democrat raised a question about a GOP president’s nominee.
“A filibuster is a parliamentary procedure
where debate is extended, allowing one or more members to delay or
entirely prevent a vote on a given proposal. It is sometimes referred to
as talking out a bill,[1] and characterized as a form of obstruction in a legislature or other decision-making body. The English term “filibuster” is derived from the Spanish filibustero, itself deriving originally from the Dutch vrijbuiter, “privateer, pirate, robber” (also the root of English “freebooter”[2]). The Spanish form entered the English language in the 1850s, as applied to military adventurers from the United States then operating in Central America and the Spanish West Indies such as William Walker.[3][4]
The term in its legislative sense was first used by Rep. Albert G. Brown, (D-MS) in 1853, referring to Abraham Watkins Venable’s speech against “filibustering” intervention in Cuba.[5]”
BY ITS’ DEFINITION (Wikipedia version at least) it has always been about obstruction.
So Reid finally found his balls….bout f-k-g time…….oh yeah, shut up Sanford,no one cares what you think.
But, the change to House Rules, Clause 4 of Rule XXII, is OK??
Late in the evening on September 30, 2013, the House Rules Committee
Republicans changed the Rules of the House so that the ONLY Member
allowed to call up the Senate’s clean CR for a vote was Majority Leader
Eric Cantor or his designee — all but guaranteeing the government would
shut down a few hours later and would stay shut down. Previously, any
Member would have had the right to bring the CR up for a vote. Democracy
has been suspended in the House of Representatives.
Good fuck yourself and your hairy legged whore!!
Of course it is. Do what I say, not what I do! Rule changes and the right of the minority is only good when it helps Republicans!
Dems have had the very same beef in the past. It is all part of the theater of the absurd. They are just trying to impress their voting block of the moment.
This is what drives me crazy about people in politics. They worship their party like it’s their god. The dems can do no wrong to dem supporters. Same for Reps. They’re really just all stupid people trying to “win” in whatever way they can. All the while we cheer for our “team” while they both drive us over a cliff.
no truer words were ever spoken about false idols…how can you separate the passion from the zealot or the zealot from the passion and get to the crux of the problem and fix it?
Don’t let the facts cloud some good political posturing. Glad to see a member of the House has two cents to add on the Senate’s rules.
I understand why you might call her hairy legged after her recent SKYPE interview in her pajamas from the waist up. At that age, we all need the proper lighting, hair, and makeup. Of course that grandfatherly guy at infoBae that was interviewing her would make anyone look good by comparison.
Was she impressed with the outcome when Sanford looked like a dorrk when he would SKYPE for Fox News?
Honey, don’t do it on the cheap to impress or stay in the good graces of Sanford. We see where that got Jenny… oh yeah, you know.
I guess the Republicans found out how far they could push with their obstruction strategy and now they are outraged that Reid did something about it.
I have a solution…the US House of Representatives simply needs to defund entire departments of government, unfunded laws and acts as well as entitlements as they alone control tax payer revenue appropriations the next time Obama’s budget comes back from the Senate. How? Blue-slip the revenue hikes in the budget.
someone call the waaaahmbulance!
Miitch McConnell is so stupid. He bitched about 3 judges on the Court of Appeals. Right now there are 390 federal judges who are Democrats and 390 who are Republican. But there are 93 vacancies. So Obama will pick 93 Dems to fill those vacancies. And he will get the votes in the Senates. This is a huge defeat for the GOP.
The GOP just shot itself in the foot. Bad, bad judgment.
What did he expect? Unprecedented obstruction leads to unprecedented action. I actually am nervous about this change, but it became necessary because the Senate was dysfunctional. Both parties will have times they are unhappy this rule change occurred, but the change falls on the heads of Republicans who have abused their privileges for the last 8 years. Now we will all just have to live with it.
Republicans are total hypocrites. They have attempted to make this same change in the past and look at what they have done to the House.
Politicians are total hypocrites. Reid and Pelosi with their personal wranglings and self-aggrandisements and Obama with his tone deafness, are certainly no exceptions.
Phil E. Buster needs to go. Just wait, Harry. Karma is a bitch.
MarkieMark ought to know how it works. He participated in it in our state. It worked for him. Is he frightened it will work for others as well?
