S.C. Treasurer Curtis Loftis says his office has located more than $400 million in unclaimed cash and property  – a record amount.

Loftis administers the state’s unclaimed property program via his official website. He calls the program “Palmetto Payback.”

“Millions of dollars are transferred to the program annually by companies that cannot locate the owners,” Loftis says. “Examples of the type of property covered by the program include bank accounts, stock certificates, checks, insurance policies and utility deposits.”

During the last election, didn’t this dude criticize Converse Chellis for doing the same thing he is now doing? Is this the same guy who goes on and on about transparency but over five months after agreeing to some sort of deal with a big Wall Street bank, no one has seen the contract. Just like a politician, say one thing to get elected and then do the opposite.

Must be a really slow news day when “news” like this get posted

I searched my family and found three people with claims. Totaled about $850.

May not be “news” to you but it just made our Christmas tithe a lot larger and for that I am thankful to Mr. folks.

This has been going on for about 15 YEARS. I think the program was started by good ole former Treasurer Grady Patterson.

As I scroll down, I see Curtis has his people posting again.
Pathetic pandering…

Curtis’s people? You mean to million people that voted for him?

Yea, that would be me. Sorry, did not know that voting cost me my posting rights.

Actually I’m pretty sure nitrat was referring to the taxpayer funded staff who work for Loftis. The man has no shame, he’ll say one thing and then do the opposite but if you call him on it he goes out on Facebook and cries about how “they” are out to get him. Pathetic!!!

No he isn’t, he’s telling the truth and the truth hurts doesn’t it big boy.

The last time they mentioned this ( a year ago, maybe), I went and checked if there was anything in my name…there was, so I did what was asked to get the money.
Nothing has happened since…no check. I guess I’ll have to try again.

Yeah, I did too. Not a word after filing last year. This time I followed up with the entity who has my funds as well. The Treasurer has $470 and the Co-op has $1900 that has not passed to the Treasurer yet.

Just call them. They answer the phone everyday. But then again that would put an end to your lie

Loftis is not trying to find people at all….the amount of unclaimed funds has doubled under him…it is hogwash that he cares about returning money. It is all about the PR he gets from talking about it. It is one of the WORST run programs in America. Such a shame.
