COLUMBIA, S.C. (November 18, 2013) — University of South Carolina placekicker Elliott Fry has been selected as the SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance in the Gamecocks’ 19-14 win over Florida on Saturday, it was announced today.
Fry, a 6-0, 150-pound walk-on from Frisco, Texas, was successful on 4-of-5 field goal attempts and accounted for 13 of the Gamecocks’ points in the win. He connected on field goal attempts of 25-, a career-high 45-, 22- and 43-yards. The 22-yard attempt came midway through the fourth quarter and put the Gamecocks on top for the first time in the game. His 43-yarder in the final few minutes provided the final margin of victory.
Fry has been successful on 14-of-17 field goal attempts this season (82.4 percent), including eight of his last nine attempts. It’s the second time this season that Fry has been honored by the league office as he was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week following his game-winning kick at Missouri.
Fry and the No. 12/11 Gamecocks (8-2, 6-2 SEC) will host Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
