In case you missed it, Auburn pulled off the most improbable game-winning touchdown this weekend since Louisiana State’s “Bluegrass Miracle” of 2002.
Leading Georgia 37-17 with under ten minutes left in the fourth quarter, the No. 7 Tigers inexplicably collapsed on both sides of the football. In fact they found themselves trailing the No. 25 Bulldogs 38-37 when UGA quarterback Aaron Murray scored on a gutsy five-yard dive that barely saw the nose of the football inch across the goal line.
After instant replay confirmed the touchdown, it looked as though one of the biggest come-from-behind victories in Murray’s storied career at UGA was complete.
(Cue Lee Corso’s “not so fast my friend” line).
Auburn took over with 1:49 left on the clock, but head coach Gus Malzahn’s team quickly found itself faced with a fourth-and-eighteen from its own 26-yard-line.
That’s when this happened …

Yeah … wow.
For those of you keeping score at home, that’s Nick Marshall passing 76 yards to Ricardo Louis for the game-winning score.
Our favorite part of this clip? The little white guy in the background at the 55-second mark who jumps about four feet in the air in uncontrolled exuberance …
Anyway, this immaculate deflection was particularly providential for University of South Carolina fans, as it (along with the Gamecocks’ 19-14 win over Florida) eliminated Georgia from contention for the SEC Eastern Division championship.
UPDATE: Trumped …

Might have been the most exciting 4th quarter of football TBG has ever seen. If Larry Munson were still with us…I fear he would have had a heart attack making that play call.
On top of it all, Murray almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with only 25 seconds left. One of those games [Immaculate Reception etc], that, if you were there, either as a Georgia or Auburn fan, you’ll still talk about it 25 years from now…..
And there’s a defensive backs coach who has been beating it into his players head to not try and catch passes like that in that situation but to knock them down. Great play centered around two bonehead Georgia players who were looking to make the sports highlight film… well they accomplished that.
Hot damn, Georgia, you fucked that one up big time. 4th down seconds to go and in the lead, hello! Smack the damn thing down and be done with it! Don’t try to catch that, he wouldn’t have even caught it!
Luck and ineptitude. A real play is the one handed grab by the white boy at UCF to tie Temple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV-f-x1PIi4
That was an unbelievable catch.
Gamecock fans get exposure in Alabama (with video) — this from my folks (Alabama fans) in Alabama who asked me, “What’s with those fans and why should we care?” — HAH..!!

Given how Bama played against MSU, they shouldn’t take anything for granted.
I like the idea of having mittens for your DB’s just for that type of situation. Or just tape all their fingers together so they don’t get any ideas of playing the hero and trying to catch the ball.
Definitely play of the year.
I’ll bet the Georgia defensive backs are really popular at Athens restaurants. They are such good “tippers”.
Proof positive the God is Gamecocks fan!
Being an Auburn fan I have to say that was pee your pants awesome…..War Eagle.
