Former Indiana University basketball coach Bobby Knight caused a national firestorm in 1988 when he shared his views on rape with then-NBC News correspondent Connie Chung.
“I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it,” Knight said.
The notoriously irascible coach – who was fired in 2000 due to a litany of anger issues – quickly corrected himself, but the damage was done.
Fast forward to this week, when Ranjit Sinha – chief of India’s Central Bureau of Investigation – made a similar comment.
“If you can’t prevent rape, you might as well enjoy it,” Sinha said.
Sinha made the comment in reference to the debate over legalizing gambling in India. He was attempting to draw an analogy to the fact the nation should legalize the practice and make money off of it rather than waste money fighting it.
Needless to say, that’s pretty much the definition of a terrible analogy … especially in light of the brutal December 2012 gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old Indian woman in New Delhi. One of the assailants in that case died in prison, while four others were sentenced to death by hanging.
Given how pissed off people in India are right now, Sinha will be lucky to escape that fate himself …

I feel like he’s raping me with his eyes, Jebuschrist that dude looks like a maniac.
I’ll be sure to be whispering that in his ear while I’m pounding his rear into oblivion.
A certain US Senator from SC sends this message to The Booty Warrior :
“Call me.”
No mention of Bobby Knight would be complete without mentioning his influence on the high school chess coach.
I’vee never seen this one before – very good! But I guess only chess players would really appreciate it….
“YOU CALL THAT CASTLING?”
Of course this guy said people should just enjoy rape if they can’t avoid it. With a face like that, normal sex isn’t exactly easy to come by. He’ll take what he can get.
….. and this guy is the Top Cop in India!
I wonder if he’d enjoy it if someone stuck a dick up his ass?
From his eyes, I bet his nickname is Chief Toke.
Wrong sort of Indian. Maybe Swami Toke?
I always like to remind people that back in my Buckeye days, Bobby Knight warmed the bench while Lucas, Nowell, Siegfried, Roberts and Havlicek took care of business on the court.
Y’all don’t understand. The caste system is alive and well in India, no matter how hard they try to get rid of it. The upper castes don’t have to worry about that shit. If you be in the lower ones, may as well spread ’em wide, lay back and at least let it happen.
I know we have our racial and socioeconomic divides here, but nothing like over there.
Those that make it over here are the “cream of the crop”, if you can believe it. Patels, what a crock of shit. It’s a bogus name. For every one of them there are a thousand, or more, who live in abject poverty. I work with a bunch of them, I just wish they’d learn to shower now and again, and work on that damn accent.
