Obamacare=FAIL

Take 3 more years time and another $300 million to try it again. Try not to use a crony friend of Michelle’s this time around too.

or face fines of up to 2.5 percent of their income

Again, the 2014 penalty is $95 per person (less for children) or 1% of your income, whichever is greater. That does not reach 2.5% of income until 2016. Also, the penalty is unenforceable except through deductions from tax returns, and despite the plethora of paranoia and conspiracy theories, no court in the country would allow them to actually come after you for it due to the letter of the law.

The penalty is also reduced if you are covered for a portion of the year. You are charged 1/12th of the fee for each month you don’t have coverage. Also, an interesting tidbit:

If you’re uninsured for just part of the year, 1/12 of the yearly
penalty applies to each month you’re uninsured. If you’re uninsured for
less than 3 months, you don’t have a make a payment.

Also:

6. What are the statutory exemptions from the requirement to obtain minimum essential coverage?

Short coverage gap. You went without coverage for less than three consecutive months during the year. For more information, see question 22….

19. Do I have to be covered for an entire calendar month in order
to get credit for having minimum essential coverage for that month?

No. You will be treated as having minimum essential coverage for a
month as long as you have coverage for at least one day during that
month.

Open enrollment does not end until after March, which if you tried to sign up afterwards you’d be past the three month mark anyways.

Dammit, Smirks. Stop with the facts.

Republicans don’t like facts. They think they are biased against Republicans.

What’s that? Even more facts?

Nixon supported a mandate, as well as other changes that are eerily similar to the ACA. Heritage Foundation’s Stuart Butler proposed the idea in 1989 and Republicans pushed for it through the early 90s, including prominent Republicans like Orrin Hatch and Newt Gingrich. And of course, Romneycare is what Obamacare is based off of.

The sad fact is that decades ago, this was a Republican idea being floated against Democrats calling for real socialist reforms. Now, the Democrats are supporting the Republicans’ idea and Republicans support mostly bullshit reforms and nothing that would significantly solve the issue of uninsured people in this country being absolutely, positively fucked six ways from Sunday.

All this hogwash about how Obama is a Kenyan Communist and the Democrats are more liberal than ever is really quite amusing, because it is clear as day that they’ve been dragged to the right. They surrendered the public option without much of a fight and fully adopted Republican reforms. Too bad the Republicans are too far to the right to even want their own reforms now, though.

Why didn’t Democrats support it then, because it wasn’t their idea?

Didn’t like it then, don’t like it now.

Three downvotes, but I don’t see anyone contesting what I’ve said. This is what is actually in the law, what the actual government sites are telling you that they are going to do, as well as pretty much any other honest person telling you what is up with the Affordable Care Act. If I posted anything untrue, it should be fairly simple to debunk, so please, have at it.

I haven’t even delved into the fact that we are discussing more capitulations by Obama that the Republicans were demanding (and holding hostages over) before the exchanges even opened.

The exchanges are open for SIX full months. Coverage from enrollment doesn’t begin until January 1st. We are just now nearing the end of the first month. The mandate penalty doesn’t get charged to you, at all, if you are covered before the end of March and remain covered for the rest of the year. The mandate is unenforceable outside of deducting the penalty from your tax returns. The penalty is heavily lowered for the first year of implementation.

I’m sorry, but it is far too early to consider delaying the individual mandate.

“… If I posted anything untrue, it should be fairly simple to debunk, so please, have at it…”

How about this one: “…and holding hostages over…” (or does hyperbole not count?)

Then there’s this: “…Again, the 2014 penalty is $95 per person…”
It’s not a penalty, according to the administration and the Supreme Court, its a tax (except on Tuesdays and Thursdays when it’s either a penalty or a mandate)

You are correct in the assertion that the tax is unenforceable (for now) but the IRS minions will still get to root around in your Obamacare file.

Obama October 2012: “…”If you’re one of the more than 250 million Americans who already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance. This law will only make it more secure and more affordable.”

Obama October 2013: “…”So if you’re getting one of these letters [canceling your insurance], just shop around in the new marketplace. That’s what it’s for…”.
