After only two days of a partial government shutdown, eighteen “Republican” members of the U.S. House of Representatives are already wanting to throw in the towel and vote for a “clean” spending bill which includes funding for Barack Obama’s socialized medicine law.
Along with the House’s 200 Democratic members, that’s more than enough votes to pass such a measure.
Wow … we knew the GOP was going to cave on the whole shutdown “crisis” but we had no idea so many lawmakers would abandon their prior opposition to Obamacare so quickly.
These fiscally liberal “Republicans” were roundly (and rightly) rebuked for their treachery.
“Supporting a continuing resolution that allows funding for Obamacare is the same as supporting Obamacare,” Nathan Mehrens of Americans for Limited Government said. “These House Republicans are undermining the negotiating position of House leadership in the middle of a major confrontation over what to do about the implementation of the health care law.”
For those of you keeping score at home, the eighteen GOP sellouts are Reps. Lou Barletta (RINO-Pennsylvania), Charlie Dent (RINO-Pennsylvania), Mario Diaz-Balart (RINO-Florida), Mike Fitzpatrick (RINO-Pennsylvania), Randy Forbes (RINO-Virginia), Jim Gerlach (RINO- Pennsylvania), Michael Grimm (RINO-New York), Peter King (RINO-New York), Frank LoBiondo (RINO-New Jersey), Pat Meehan (RINO-Pennsylvania), Devin Nunes (RINO-California), Eric Paulson (RINO- Minnesota), Scott Rigell (RINO-Virginia), Jon Runyan (RINO-New Jersey), Mike Simpson (RINO-Idaho), Rob Wittman (RINO-Virginia), Frank Wolf (RINO-Virginia) and Bill Young (RINO-Florida).
Another four “Republicans” – Reps. Shelly Moore Capito (R-West Virginia), Leonard Lance (R- New Jersey). Dennis Ross (R-Florida), and Steve Womack (R-Arkansas) – are leaning toward caving, according to The Washington Post.
Astounding … what was the point of giving “Republicans” control of the U.S. House again? They caved in the 2011 debt deal. They caved on the 2012 “fiscal cliff” fight. And now they are caving in 2013 on the Obamacare shutdown.
And to think, all this because 25 percent of the federal government (38 percent if you exclude active-duty military) was shut down for forty-eight hours …
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again … the GOP needs to die.

Just wondering..why does this site continue to preface certain words with “#”, like here..with “shutdown”?
I’m pretty sure this sites web geniuses are smart enough to understand that the indexing that categorizes words that start with a “hashtag” is only used on twitter..and not other web sites. At least I hope so. Noone, anywhere, is noting the use obscure phrases like “#shutdown” , or “#nancymace”.
Not true. do a simple #search on google. I’m not sure why by google seems to have instituted this as a part of the algorithm. Fascinating really.
https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0#complete=0&q=%23Obamacare
I clicked your link and replaced “Obamacare” with “Shutdown”, and Fits site didn’t come up in the first 2 pages (thats as far as I looked). And it didn’t appear that “#shutdown” was a keyword any different than “shutdown”. I do remember hearing about that additional index search was added, but it doesn’t appear to really matter.
Plus, adding the # just looks stupid. Its the written equivalent of someone saying “O-M-G” in a conversation.
How about how Cruz and Lee are trying to “negotiate” a deal with Reid and Obama rather than “Hold The Line” and #DontBlink their way to defunding? Cruz supported a mandate delay plan from the House that would have still funding the program—is he a RINO? Since he was the biggest proponent of this, why has he not stood firm even a handful of days into a partial government shutdown? Why has he tried to fund more popular programs that could be used as leverage to extract defunding?
The bill is signed and the supreme court ruled in favor of Obamacare. Just accept it and move on. The damage is done.

Well there is this,
“A Ku Klux Klan rally planned for Saturday, Oct. 5 at Gettysburg has been canceled because of the government shutdown.”
Maybe the teabaggers are beginning to understand the shutdown is affecting them now.
Fuck You
Very nice, Francis.
Them Kluxers just realized their Grand Kleagle Byrd was dead and called the meeting off. The last time they canceled was because Truman had died. Then there was the time Hugo Black died and then there was the time Theodore Bilbo died…
In case you missed it all them Kluxers I named was Dimocrats…
Don’t forget the Dixiecrats, you can add a lot more names there too.
:)
First progressives seize the world “liberal” from its classical roots, now they paint Teabaggers, Republicans, etc. as racists…lol(not that some aren’t, but still…it’s a might wide brush and a cash of the pot calling the kettle black)
You have to hand it to their PR people, they are routinely kicking the “right”‘s asses ideologically…truth not withstanding.
If blacks ever left their political plantation they’d be screwed….so the Great Society must continue.
might to “mighty” and cash to “case”
Except the Dixiecrats all became Republicans.
Every name I mentioned was a Dimocrat til the day they died.
Yeah and the rest of the Dimocrat racist just went underground…
How about passing a CR that funds Obamacare, and THEN negotiating changes to parts you don’t like, instead of just taking hostages and making demands? The GOP already has promised to lend the votes necessary in the House to approve such a continuing resolution, but Boehner is afraid he’ll lose his job if it comes up for a vote.
Face it. A minority of one house of congress is now keeping our government from working and harming our economy and people. It is time to let democracy work and stop Boehner from caving in to a fringe group.
And at this point, I’m cheering them on. #SHUT’ERDOWN
You argue your point with the well-reasoned, fact-based logic that most on your side of this argument use. I would love to engage in a constructive argument about this, but apparently you are not capable of such an exchange.
Excluding a very few people here, there are no constructive arguements on forums anywhere. Your last statement prooves your inability. My contact information is all over this website. I would be thrilled to meet in person for political discussions of any kind. Hell, I’m an idiot, right? Should be easy to talk me under the table without smart ass remarks and using the sound reasoning that many hear will tell you I am lacking in. Your ball.
OK, Frank. So, yes, I did use a personal attack in an attempt to get you to respond substantively. You chose to not respond substantively yet again. I’ll bet it would be pretty easy to talk you under the table — especially given your obvious lack of English composition abilities. If you don’t understand this comment, I would be happy to play your English teacher in addition to your civics teacher. To be honest, though, you aren’t worth my time.
I’ll walk away the winner here because I have yet to see anyone post a single reason why I am wrong.
Tell you what. I’ve said before I’ll say it again. Here’s my email

Want to have a substantive conversation. You choose the subject. Lets get together for a beer. I’m in the harbison area of Columbia.
Can’t be done on a website. This is a place to vent, be nasty or be hoighty toighty. The only thing you win on a website is the right to stick your nose in the air and say :P
Yeah I remember this article now. Hell yes. There’s a lot more substance. SHUT’ERDOWN just says it so much more succinctly.
Me too! Shut er’ down!
I love watching repubs shoot themselves in the foot and then DARE us to let them keep bleeding.
No one really thinks this shutdown is going to last do they?
If you do, you are probably one of those people that think that the US will “default”(in the traditional sense) on its debt.
lol…it will be money printing until the “end”…not a traditional default.
Don’t let the political theater get under your skin.
Look at it this way, 25% of the gov’t is shutdown and there’s no rioting in the streets or stock market losses.
What does that tell you? Obviously 25% of the gov’t is not that important.
Even further, the GOP for the most part is in a panic to get gov’t going again.
What does that tell you? They aren’t for “limited government”. It’s all a farce.
“Keep calm and carry on.” Screw them, live your life.
I just noticed the market down 100 points, so let me amend the above with “major stock market losses”, but you get the point.
The sky is not falling, you people worrying about shutdowns and defaults need to remove your tin foil hats.
or more clearly “no major stock market losses”, with the threshold at which I’m wrong being the traditional recessionary 20% drop.
One can only pray for a reasonable correction.
Any group that wants to carry the mantle of “fiscal conservative” and simultaneoulsy threaten the credit quality of our sovereign debt needs to re-evaluate its priorities.
For the good of the country, teabaggers, stop with your ridiculous antics and do something constructive before you take the entire republican party so far down your crazy trail that it can’t recover.
An extra trillion dollars in debt every year isn’t enough for you? You think we can borrow and print that cash forever?
The annual trillion dollar deficit does not include Bernanke’s money printing. If you add Bernanke’s shenanigans there is a two trillion dollar deficit that I guess is George Bush’s fault, I guess because he still runs DC.
+1/2 for partisanship
“You think we can borrow and print that cash forever?”
There’s quite a few that do.
In fact, it’s the stated goal of monetary policy via the Fed to print up at least 2% every year for maximum “growth & employment”…lol
Not withstanding the other 40%+ the print up yearly to pay the bills of course….
But yes, a good 50% of the population, if not more, believe that wealth is formed through a cascade of dollars created out of thin air.
It’s doubtful that anything short of the final realization of those policies will cause them to think otherwise. IMHO, I doubt we will NOT have to wait longer than another 10 years for that…..but the complete implementation of Obamacare will certainly drop that, assuming that the GOP doesn’t find a way to stop it(doubtful, since in their minds the solution is “repeal & replace”).
Don’t defund. Don’t delay. Don’t Replace. Repeal or be Recalled.
This thought process never fails to amaze me. ‘The full faith and credit….blahblahblah’. UNAMERICAN. Whatever.
There is another way to put this.
Your in the Dr.’s office. Your morbidly obese. I mean 4′-8″ and 800#’s. The Dr. says loose weight or die. You say, “But I’m really Hungry”. The Dr. says ‘OK. Here’s a half dozen McCheetoNickers, But just this once because you really need it.’

Boehner: Obama Stubbornly Refusing to End Crisis I Created
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) said that he was disappointed after meeting with President Obama at the White House on Wednesday afternoon, telling reporters, “The President is stubbornly refusing to end the crisis I created.”
“Government is about teamwork,” Mr. Boehner continued. “I’ve done my part by putting together an entirely optional crisis that has shut down the government and will throw thousands out of work. Now it’s up to the President to do his part by ending it.”
Mr. Boehner said that he was “flabbergasted” that the President was looking to him to bring the current government shutdown to an end: “So after doing all of the hard work to push the country to the brink, I’m supposed to pull it back, too? How about you pitching in a little, Mr. President?”
The House Speaker said that he hoped he did not have to manufacture an another entirely avoidable crisis over the debt ceiling in order to stir the President to action. “Quite frankly, orchestrating these unnecessary stalemates takes a lot of energy and I could really use a rest,” he said.
But Mr. Boehner seemed pessimistic that the President “got the message.”
“Because of my actions, thousands of federal workers have already been furloughed,” he said. “How many more people do I have to throw out on the street before the President wakes up?”
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, “the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
“The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national
debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents — #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.” – Barack Obama, July 3, 2008
If the House is going to cave anyway, then a Southern Congress person who vocalizes a true bipartisan message would catapult themselves on to the National stage. Sort of the anti-Ted Cruz. A real 2016 Presidential opportunity. Heck, I’m surprised Mark Sanford isn’t attempting it.
Anarchists who desire the destruction of America in order to save America #ModernConservatism
The most amazing thing about the shutdown, the number of people that think it is caused by one side or the other, pick your side I don’t care but it takes two sides to shut down the government.
Not according to Senate Minority Leader McConnell and Sen. Paul; they’re convinced the GOP is winning:
http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/03/rand-and-mcconnell-caught-talking-strategy-on-hot-mic/
Democrats are responsible for many bad decisions and bad laws such as 1857 Dred Scott Decesion, Jim Crow , prohibition, which were eventually over turned and repealed. Obama’s affordable care tax law is bad law and will eventually be repealed.
You really need to read this article in the Georgetowner, a local Georgetown/DC area news paper. The lengths your President and his administration are going to to make the “shutdown” crisis a media event are insane. They’ve spent more money shutting down the C&O Canal BIKE PATH than it would have cost to man the very limited services offered – they actually removed handles from well pumps along the route so they couldn’t be used. http://www.georgetowner.com/articles/2013/oct/01/shutdowns-little-details-say-lot-towpath-parks-closed/
The Mount Vernon trail, another bike path has been marked as closed – even though there is no expense required to operate it and the policing of the area continues. Locals are ignoring the shut down like good Americans should. http://wamu.org/news/13/10/02/shutdown_leaves_government_workers_with_free_time_but_no_access_to_popular_va_trail
But best of all, the NPS Police tried to block access to George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon – even though it is owned by a private organization that the NPS shares a parking lot with.
And then there’s this one: http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Famous-City-Tavern-Closed-by-Government-Shutdown-226198441.html
I don’t think anyone could have done more than Ted Cruz to make this a media event.
While clueless and insensitive people joke and pretend this shut down is nothing, hundreds of thousands of people are suffering. Nutrition centers for poor seniors and children are shut down. Many government employees who live paycheck to paycheck, like most of America, have their finances at risk and could suffer long term impairment to their credit rating. Banks cannot close mortgage loans because the IRS is not there to confirm income, often leaving buyers and seller in a very difficult position, with deals possibly falling through and borrowers losing their rate lock. Banks cannot complete business loans for the same reason, leaving businesses cash strapped. Thousands of non-government employees have been laid off, because the government contract of their employer is on hold.
There are thousand more examples of real world real harm I could go into, but that’s not important. Lets talk about bike paths.
And the administration’s response to legitimate issues – close public parks where they normally offer no real services anyway.
Why in the hell are you dealing with a bank that is involved with the IRS anyway? Quicken looks at my bank statement and my Notice of Deposit from my employer then approves my loan.
Please let me know where these “nutrition centers” are so I can stroke a check to help out.
Impairment to their credit rating, oh no, the horrors – because they lived beyond their means. Cry me a river. If you want to worry about credit ratings, worry about the credit rating of the nation. The one that has already been downgraded and is set to have it downgraded again. Worry about what our inability to borrow money at favorable rates will do to all those services you are so worried about.
So if the “leaners” cave do they become RINOs?
What do you expect? Most of them are in districts that are severely affected by government cuts. The Virginia reps are under especially intense scrutiny because it is one of the states most reliant on DoD funding.
The Republicans got the House, and now sequester-level spending seems to have become the norm. The on-the-table CR holds levels where they have been, some $150-200B less than the Dems want, and only $21B more than Paul Ryan’s budget! THIS IS WHERE THE DEMOCRATS HAVE ALREADY COMPROMISED!
Fits, passing a budget is a “core function of government”. The Affordable Care Act is absolutely unrelated to passing a budget. To tie the two together is wholly irresponsible on the part of House Republicans. How can you possibly support Congress not doing its job?
Obamacare is now a LAW to be ENACTED. It should not be a bargaining chip. If Republicans wanted to repeal the LAW, they should have won the votes to retake the Senate and the Presidency. To hold our government, our economy, and REAL AMERICANS hostage over a completely unrelated issue is irresponsible.
