The University of South Carolina’s official athletics website has yanked the most recent installment of head coach Steve Spurrier’s weekly television show – and Fox Sports South has yanked its scheduled rerun of the program.
What gives?
There’s no official answer at this point, but Spurrier’s awkward body language and slurred speech during two brief appearances on the program have raised questions about his sobriety.
“Drunk as a skunk!” one commenter noted in response to a bootleg copy of the show that was posted to YouTube.com.
“Spurrier’s hammered!” another exclaimed.
Is he? We’ll let you be the judge of that …
Spurrier’s first segment begins at the 12:00 minute mark. His second segment begins at the 16:40 mark.
Take a look …

Wow … he sure looks (and sounds) drunk to us.
In fact we can’t wait till columnist Ron Morris of The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper weighs in on this story.
Oh … right. Never mind.
Anyway, Spurrier’s No. 12/13 Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) host conference rival Kentucky (1-3. 0-1 SEC) on Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C. No word yet on whether the USC head coach will submit to a breathalyzer prior to the game.
UPDATE: University of South Carolina athletics department spokesman Steve Fink isn’t getting into specifics about why the show was pulled …
“Coach wasn’t happy with the show so we took it down,” Fink tells FITS.

I hope you are wrong but I thought the same thing when watching the show . It also could be medical so lets find the truth!
That’s a good point. Not sure if Spurrier has any known medical conditions or is taking any kind of medicine that may explain his composure.
He had a rock in his shoe and his diabetes was acting up…
Fair enough, but Spurrier wasn’t doing anything illegal at least.
Maybe he has Clowneys bone spurs, (or stomach bug, or the flu, or his poison ivy, or his eczema, or whatever is keeping him from winning the Heisman now)
Ron Morris get’s payback!!!
Great name!
I think that if the old ball sack wants to be drunk let him. If I had to spend all day around a bunch of coots in Columbia I’d be ripped too.
I’d be ripped for life if my parents had named me “Travis”.
Fail.
Sunday morning, Spurrier woke up sober. Dabo, meanwhile, woke up being the same douche used-car salesman he’s always been.
He also woke up with his team undefeated and ranked third. Spurrier? Not so much.
Spurrer woke up with a current four-game win streak over Dabo. Dabo, on the other hand . . .
Spurrier yet again woke up Sunday pissed off that his defense is horseshit and his offense is basically fortunate to score points against a weak defense.
Before Clemson’s game against WF, USC’s offense was statistically better than Clemson’s, and Shaw had better stats than Boyd. (Haven’t seen the numbers since last weekend’s game).
Just saying …
Carl’s Jr allowed UGA’s offense less yards than Clemson did. I guess that trumps the final scores, right?
Dude, I’m responding to his post about our “offense is basically fortunate to score points against a weak defense.” In that context, yes, statistics are relevant. Wins and losses, or course, are even more important. Our four straight against Clemson is very important.
Is the SEC championship awarded based on beating Clemson? Well that hasn’t worked so far and I hate to tell you, it never will.
The State Championshp by beating Clemson. We keep winnning it; Clemson keeps losing it. In any event, this smack is getting old. I’m sure both you and I probably have better things to do than to compare dick sizes on an internet forum.
So is the 24 game domination of the series.
So that is your goal? Beat Clemson. The hell with the SEC east or the SEC championship. Now I understand why Carl’s Jr lost to the red clay hounds.
I’m not sure what you are reading into my comment, and I’m not sure what Carl’s Jr. has to do with it, but our goal is to try to win every game we play. Duh! Beating Clemson is obviously one of those goals — one which we have met with relative ease since Dabo took over. He’s the anti-Bowden: beats the teams he should beat; loses to SC.
So you agree that Dabo should have beaten UGA and LSU, right?
BTW Carl’s Jr is the new name for USC east. If you prefer, substitute dirt peckers.
I’m sorry. I don’t get the Carl’s Jr. reference. Is that supposed to be funny?
And you can spend all day bragging about the teams you’ve beaten and the teams we’ve lost to, but it doesn’t amount to shit if you haven’t beaten USC since the Bush administration. So save your smack until your team actually beats us again. Until then, talk is cheap. Your coach learned that the hard way. Ran his mouth like a fool in 2011 and then ate his words last year.
We? Whats yer number out there?
Yes, “we,” as in my alma mater. Did you go to Clemson?
I did. But I don’t play football for them.
I’ll bet the athletic directors at Southern Cal, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee and numerous others would like to know what brand he’s imbibing, if that indeed is the case.
Spurrier is showing what he’s turned into, a washed up has-been. He’s stuck with the game about 2 years too many – a la Bobby Bowden, Lou Holtz and Frank Beamer. Time to hang it up, Steve.
You mean the last two record breaking 11 win seasons capped off with two in a row bowl wins, you mean those last two years – dumbass
No offense, but I loved what he DID for the program. Truth is, SS is pushing 70 years old and I just don’t know that he has much left in him for this anymore. I know the USC faithful don’t want to hear it, but it might be time to start looking toward the future.
Let me guess, you are a 20-something USC fan who has no clue what Spurrier has done for our program and is STILL doing for our program. I dread the day he leaves us. And what makes you think “it might be time to start looking toward the future”? A loss on the road to a current top-10 team?
No, I’m a 40-something USC graduate (undergrad and law) that grew up rooting for the bottom of the barrel Gamecock teams. I freely admit it, this is as high as we’ve ever been, and we owe it to our coach. Either way, all good things come to an end and for some reason, there’s just a palpable feeling to this. I don’t know if our expectations were too high, or if we just bought too much into the hype, but for whatever reason there’s definitely a weird vibe around this season.
Fair enough but we’ve always seemed shaky from time to time every season under Spurrier. We almost lose to Wofford and then we pound Clemson, or we struggle to beat ECU and then beat Bama. I think you are getting a vibe because our defense is not like it used to be. Thankfully, though, our offense (and the emergence of Mike Davis) is making up for it.
I understand that, and you’re right. I dunno – I think that maybe we just bought into too much of what everyone was selling preseason. With all the hype surrounding Clowney, our preferential schedule and all of that. Guess we’ve never picked up on the “Speak softly and carry a big stick” saying…
I can only speak from myself, but I was never overly confident about our defense this season, mainly due to the losses of Devin Taylor (his loss has affected Clowney’s production because DT sealed the opposite edge), DJ, Holloman, and Jerideau — in that order. Thankfully, at least, the offense has exceeded my expectations.
Jeez, dude, y’all lost a close game, Between the Hedges, to a Georgia team that (if Clemson loses), may well be a national championship contender.
Damn straight!
*chuckles*
He’s only here for the paycheck and his son’s paycheck. Because who in their right mind is going to hire Jr. once he hangs it up?
Yeah, he’s showing us what he turned into. The winningest coach in USC history, the winner of four straight (and counting) over Clemson, holder of the longest streak of top-25 appearances in USC history and first back to back 11 win seasons.
Why don’t you two go get a damn room and knock cocks (assholes).
A Spurrier article filled with comments about Spurrier. Imagine that. And there’s silly you, commenting on the comments.
That’s because he’s the only coach who’s stuck around more than a half-dozen years. It’s hard to become the winningest coach when you’re only here 4-5 years before quitting or getting fired.
He’s always had some stiff, awkward posture. I think he just doesn’t like this part of the job. But this is certainly much more so. His sentence, “We gotta quit that crap,” is out of character, too. They tape these things really late Saturday or really early Sunday, depending on whether it is a road or home game. He seemed not drunk but old. So I would be careful about the speculation here. I thought he didn’t drunk. So …
If he’s not drunk why has the Ath Dept tried so hard to snuff this thing out? Removing the show from their website, nixing the rerun yesterday afternoon?
took up drinking after that game against UCF
“I thoughe he didn’t drunk”…..how many have you had?
“Is he? We’ll let you be the judge of that …”
You do know what speculation is, right? So…
Sheve Shlurrier says bring on the the Kentushy Bourbons….
LOL!!! Spit up a little coffee with that one!
Anytime , my dear.
You and the OP have a low-brow and dull sense of humor.
We’ve got a lot of cocky Clemson fans in this thread. We’ll see how cocky you are in late November.
Yeah right, anyone who can’t stand the rubber chickies is a Clemson fan in your small mind? Get a life jocko.
“Jocko”? You, sir, have hit a nerve there.
Sorry for assuming that a political board in SOUTH CAROLINA would primarily be filled with Clemson and USC fans.
UGA says Hi.
Meh. They film these things often at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning. I’m sure he was exhausted, and he was clearly upset with his team after the game in the post-game presser. That being said, I don’t care if he was drunk filming the show.
I agree, he’s entitled to drink a few. The amazing thing is that most of the people commenting and calling for his ass 1)don’t watch the show 2) would have never heard about this if it wasn’t reported by The State.
If Carolina is not careful, Spurrier is going to tell us all to go to hell and we’ll be back begging for a coach.
Fits do I have to break all of your “news” for you?
I posted this yesterday…
You mean it was not reported “exclusively” by Sic Willie?
Looks like he’s ready for nap time after his shot of bourbon.
Is USC allowing this guy to do as he pleases? He can drink on the job, it’s ok, we’ll just attempt to hide the evidence.
His alcohol-induced rosacea has been apparent for years…
He wasn’t driving drunk with a cocktail in the truck like dayboo coming straight from the Esso Club, late for his rambling call-in show on the Tater Flagship station.
I didn’t want to believe that he was likkered up (like the hillbilly spelling?), but yeah, that has to be the deal. Look at Todd Ellis’ body language as well. He looks very uncomfortable. Probably can smell the booze over there in his chair.
Clempsucks will stop at nothing to get rid of Daddy Spurrier. They’re like the spoiled rotten step daughter trying to run off daddy. LOL, Wonder why? They don’t like the spankings!!! TOO FUNNY, and PATHETIC!
Drunk as a coot.
In this thread appear a lot of envious Clemson fans hoping that Spurrier won’t kick their ass yet again this November.
Nobody wants Spurrier gone more than Clemson fans. Admit it guys, you know it’s true.
In all fairness, story in Daily Gamecock of a professor who started slurring words and odd body language – everyone thought he was drunk. Turned out he had parkinson’s
watch him run off the field after the game, he looks like he is running in pain..just saying…I would dare say “uncle Arthur” had more to do with that morning…but just my humble opinion…I for sure did not see “drunk”…but then again he could have gotten some “smoke” from Sammy Watkins… :) Just saying…
Bless his drunk little heart. Could someone not at least brush his hair for him?
He has not dyed it in a couple of weeks.
that broadcaster looks directly into the camera in the second segment and hast that “Really?!??!!” look on his face.
Old fella on right looked like he had it together
Now, the younger fella on the left, who wouldn’t shut up, looked stoned
Just look at what the head coaching job at USC has done to his predecessors. Need we say more?
I am by no means a Spurrier fan, but he could have something else going on. I never want to revel in someone having possible health concerns. I hope he is okay.
Not a Tiger or Gamecock fan, Spurrier was drunk, simple as that and that’s not a good thing when you’re on TV.
He ain’t drunk.
If you can’t get a little tipsy late on Saturday night after your team won, when is it OK to do so?
Funny; Spurrier getting loaded like white trash on TV and the Cocks start with the Dabo put downs.
I can only imagine the calls for firing Dabo if he showed up shit faced on his coaches show…
I really saw evidence of nothing more than “tired”.. After a pre-game night of coaching and a hot as hell game. If you call that drunken slurring ever watch Corso on Saturday morning or my favorite guy Lou Holtz anytime. I saw nthing wrong other than exhaustion from watching commercials.
