University of South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw will start against the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend – days after the school’s athletics department said he would miss between two and three weeks with a sprained shoulder.
“Looks like Connor is going to be fine,” Spurrier said. “He was throwing the ball very well today. It looks like he will be the starter and Dylan (Thompson) will probably go in about the third or fourth possession. They both deserve to play we think. We’ll send them both out there and go from there.”
Shaw sustained his injury during the first drive of the Gamecocks’ 28-25 win over Central Florida last week. The 6-foot-1, 209-pound Flowery Branch, Georgia native has completed 49 of 76 passes this season for 665 yards and six touchdowns. A dual threat, he’s also rushed for 232 yards.
Shaw has a 20-4 record as starting quarterback for the No. 12/13 Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC). All four of those losses have come on the road against nationally ranked SEC opponents (No. 11 Georgia this year, No. 3 Florida and No. 9 LSU last year and No. 8 Arkansas in 2011).
UPDATE: So we now know Shaw will start … but should he?

I hope for his sake they don’t take a chance with his shoulder. It would be better to let him heal a bit. One hit/tackle on that shoulder will hurt like bloody hell.

Note to self : Stock up on popcorn.
You think Carolina is getting a case of the Lou?
Nah. it’s always fun to watch Spurrier when he has 2 deserving quarterbacks…
The grimaces. The visor throws. The yankings and sideline down dressing after a misread. The reinsertion after the other guy throws a pick…..
Vintage, old school Steve Spurrier.
He’ll be out before thr second quarter. When is he not hurt?
Hopefully they aren’t rushing him back too quick, especially against an inferior opponent.
Winning The Future, and I thought Phil Petty took some hits and kept getting back up.
Connor Shaw = 100 percent.
Steve Spurrier = 100 proof.
Clowney healed him with his super powers. ESPN said so.
Who healed Clowney’s dandruff that kept him performing at his normal 10% last week?
So now is Clown(ey) going to be like the guy on The Green Mile who ends up exhausted after taking away the pain?
“Arrghh…I thank uh…Carrrter Shawwll gonna starrrt in this ball game againnsttt uhhhh theeessee Kentucky guyyysss….wee gotta cut ssomme of the crap out,” said the old ball coach.
Good Ol’ Steve Slurrier! Gonna wear out another good player no matter what.
