The first day of the 2013 government shutdown was certainly not without drama …
There was the disappearing Panda-cam. And wheelchair-bound World War II veterans storming the gates of their memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
But the greatest first-day shutdown story of all? Hands down it was this Buzzfeed post featuring dozens of tweets from American teenagers who believe the shutdown has resulted in the de facto legalization of marijuana.
“Hell yeah government shut down!!!!” one tweeted. “It is now legal to smoke weed in class.”
Ummm … as much as we love that guy (and as much as the federal government is all about cloning Jeff Spicoli), its shutdown did not legalize weed.
First of all most anti-pot laws are enforced at the local level. And second of all, one of the many federal functions which is remaining open for the duration of the shutdown is law enforcement.
See you whippersnappers a shutdown really isn’t a shutdown … it’s like … kind of a shutdown … or something. One where 62 percent of the federal government (including the part that wages an asinine, money-losing “war on drugs“) remains open.
Don’t worry, though: This website will continue to advocate for your right to smoke yourself into oblivion … and do whatever other drugs you may choose to do.
Civil liberties, baby. And civil disobedience if need be.
Meanwhile sometimes all a shutdown needs is a Jimi Thing to slide its way … keep it swinging.

Are you feeling OK? Is it just me or are the posts from Fits becoming delusional?
Just because the republicans got their ass handed to them on a platter is no treason to go off the deep end.

Reminds me of all the concern about how Romney was going to outlaw tampons if he became president….We share a planet with these people! Scary.
