House Republicans are desperately trying to hand President Barack Obama and Majority Leader Harry Reid a gift by delaying the not-ready-for-primetime Obamacare law by a year, but Obama and Reid are too obstinate to accept it. Instead Obama and Reid are willing to risk a partial “federal government shutdown.”
Wisely, House Republicans have anticipated that Obama and Reid would ignore the pleas of millions of Americans and play politics by pushing a shutdown by also sending the Senate legislation that would keep the military and federal law enforcement funded in the event an agreement cannot be reached.
This second funding law is on top of the House’s passage a Department of Defense year long funding bill in July. A bill that Harry Reid’s Senate has failed to even consider.
Given Reid’s failure to pass a military funding measure, one can reasonably wonder if the Majority Leader has always planned to use our heroes in harm’s way as political pawns in a potential government shutdown?
The sad calculus is that Reid believes that he does not need to compromise on Obamacare’s implementation and through a complicit media can shift public sentiment against the Republicans by forcing a shutdown.
In the short run, this will likely be true, but if Republicans hold firm in their demand that Obamacare be delayed for one year, the reasonableness of their position will come through and it will be Harry Reid who caves as his own constituencies demand that he accept the House position.
The fact is that Obamacare is not ready to go into effect. Here are just a few facts …

Why does Reid want to shut the government down – simple: He hates the poor, the downtrodden, the underprivileged, those of color, those who are “different” and anyone who loves freedom and the Constitution.
I think most people know which party does not give a crap about the poor, downtrodden and the underprivileged. Some of them have even expressed the belief they should not be allowed to vote.
So much for freedom and the Constitution.
Pay attention Jan – Your party is the one refusing to negotiate at all:
Reid – “…no negotiations period…”
Obama – “…dead on arrival…”.
Yeah we se what the “Great Society” has done for the poor and downtrodden.
Yes, but more poor people helps keep the need for a “Great Society”, so in that context it’s a success.

I mean, really, not giving into the Republicans demands 100% is somehow “playing politics” and “pushing a shutdown?” I’m guessing that Democrats refusing to repeal and/or defund Obamacare the last 40 times also makes it their fault for wasting Congress’ time? I’m guessing it is also only the Democrats who refused to negotiate anything ever regarding the ACA, because repeal, defund, or delay are the only possible negotiable terms to health care reform at all, ever, and making constructive edits to legislation is absolutely, positively out of the question?
The Fox News parallel universe, with its own laws and facts, is on full display. It is absolutely inconceivable that a party that only has a majority in one chamber of Congress and nobody in the White House shouldn’t get everything it demands out of the opposition in a timely fashion, even if they waited until there was very little time left to make their demands! How DARE Democrats not completely and entirely capitulate to Ted Cruz and Rand Paul? How DARE Obama not run the country like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan wanted to?

Hey Smirks – pay attention. Boehner has offered to negotiate, Reid and the President are the guys saying no here. A majority of Americans do not want the ACA and DEMOCRATS are refusing to negotiate.
You can’t fix stupid. He has no inkling the voices in the House of Representatives echo those from their respective districts. The Democrats pushed this through Congress when they had the majority and Obama signed it. They made a big mistake.

What happened to majority rule? Majority passed ACA. They have also tried to rescind it over 40 times and failed! Why not work on job creation? My bet is that more jobs were lost under GWBush than “Obamacare.”
Had the Democrats – who controlled the Congress and the White House for half of President Obama’s first term bothered to even try to pass a budget when they could have done so regardless of Republican desires we wouldn’t be here.
