“Republicans” are a minority in the United States Senate – but that doesn’t mean they are politically impotent.
Case in point: If all forty-six GOP Senators stand firm in favor of defunding Barack Obama’s socialized medicine bill – as the U.S. House has done – they can move one step closer to avoiding a government shutdown.
“Harry Reid cannot move anything in the Senate without the help of at least six Republicans,” said Nathan Mehrens of Americans for Limited Government (ALG), one of the groups which was instrumental in pushing the U.S. House to strip funding for Obamcare.
He’s right. If the GOP Senate caucus is united against Obamacare, it can keep funding for this anti-competitive, job-killing monstrosity out of that chamber’s two-month budget resolution. And if that happens, the onus for shutting down government would fall squarely on the shoulders of Barack Obama.
“Now is the time for Senate Republicans to join their colleagues in the House and show they mean it when they claim to oppose Obamcare,” Mehrens added. “There is simply no excuse for allowing the law’s implementation.”
We agree …
Mehrens also makes it clear that “allowing a continuing resolution to come to the floor where the defund language can be stripped out with a simple majority vote is the same thing as voting to fund Obamacare.”
This is a critical distinction …
Groups like ALG held “Republicans” in the U.S. House accountable for their position on Obamacare – and as a result all but one of them voted to strip it from the legislation (as opposed to pretending to strip it from the resolution).
Now that same battle moves to the U.S. Senate, where every single GOP Senator must demonstrate the same resolve … or face the consequences. Also we can think of several vulnerable Democrats who might want to think long and hard about including funding for this abomination in the budget proposal.
Public support for Obamacare has plummeted in recent months as the law’s adverse impact on the economy has become readily apparent. Also the administration has been forced to delay key provisions of the act – demonstrating its lack of readiness for prime time.
It is time to defund this disaster … before it is too late.

Didn’t you get my memo guys? Give it up. It won’t work.
Hawhawhawhawhaw.
This is based on so many false premises, but “before it’s too late” is the worst. Obamacare is awful and it will only get worse: 1) it’s not going to provide HC for countless people it claimed it would; 2) it’s going to jack up premiums for most, yet give most no subsidy to cover the difference; 3) businesses are becoming more vocal in refusing to hire/lowering hours to avoid penalties; 4) business gets an out, but unions (!!) and individuals don’t. Why not run in 2014 when the pain REALLY hits on making Barry and the Dems defend it, especially given that all God’s children know that “defund” won’t work? A GOP Senate and House will make all the difference.

If you keep your foot firmly placed on the gas pedal, you’ll be one step closer to making your car accelerate!
Seriously, that was absolutely painful to read. Senate Democrats will not capitulate, and neither will Obama. Obstructing continuing funding GUARANTEES a government shutdown. If Republicans were not making such a huge fucking deal out of defunding Obamacare, we wouldn’t be in jeopardy of a government shutdown in the first goddamn place. That is a fact. You can’t change the reality of the situation just because you don’t agree with it, dude.
2012 wasn’t enough of a lesson, but if this keeps up, 2014 will give quite a refresher.
The Sandlapper Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America agrees with Smirks. None of us $500,000-a-year doctors or dentists want a pay cut, and Obamacare will reduce us from super-rich to ordinary-rich. We will stop contributing to our congressmen if they help poor people get health insurance at reasonable costs. We will blow our horns, pitch a fit, and stop buying American bourbon. Instead we will buy Scotch blended whiskey.
Uncle Remus does not support obama care. Paid for by Aunt Jemama
Would it make a difference? NO!!
We wonder just how many high school or college students are following this for classroom participation and awareness..?/
What should these students be doing in real time with their phones.??
Republicans Warn Iranian President Against Shaking Obama’s Hand
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — Republican leaders warned the newly elected Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that they would frown on his shaking hands with President Obama at the United Nations today, saying that any embrace of Obama would signal that Iran was not serious about abandoning extremism.
“We welcome President Rouhani’s moderate rhetoric,” said Senator Rand Paul (R-Ken.). “But those words are rendered hollow if he is willing to shake the hand of a notorious extremist.”
“This is a man who has enslaved his people, saddling them with a health-care law not of their choosing,” said Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.). “The President of Iran should think twice before shaking hands with a man like that.”
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor sounded a warning of his own: “If the President of Iran wants to give the world the impression that he cares about human rights, he should be careful about cozying up to a despot who has continually tried to take away his people’s assault rifles.”
“We encourage Mr. Rouhani’s wish that Iran join the community of civilized nations,” added House Speaker John Boehner, “but first he must renounce Barack Obama.”

Wait- a GOP Senate filibuster, of a GOP House-passed continuing funding resolution, will put the onus of a government shutdown squarely on the president?
Is this backwards day? I don’t get it….
