A new poll from grassroots group FreedomWorks has found that 78 percent of Republicans – and GOP-leaning independents – classify themselves as fiscally conservative and socially moderate.
Details of the poll – leaked to The Politico – highlight what the website dubbed a “libertarian renaissance.”
“The perfect storm is being created between the NSA, the IRS, the implementation of Obamacare and now Syria,” the Republican pollster who conducted the survey told the website. “People are looking at the government more suspiciously. They’re looking with deeper scrutiny and reasonable suspicion.”
Duh … we could have told you that. In fact we’ve been telling you that … for years.
And we’re not deeply suspicious … we’re downright indignant at the assault on freedom and free markets taking place in this country.
That’s why this website proudly endorsed former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul in the 2012 GOP presidential primary – and we just-as-proudly endorsed former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson in the 2012 general election.
Why? Because the “Republican” nominee was only marginally distinguishable from the socialist incumbent.
As a result of ideological betrayals too numerous to mention, the GOP is fast approaching terminal velocity in this country. It has sold out every principle it ever had … and the old tricks it used to maintain the illusion of fidelity to those principles are no longer working.
Good.
Let it die as far as we’re concerned.

“Fiscal conservatives” and “social moderates” who are still voting for corporate cronyism and social conservatism. Much like pastors that have gay affairs while fervently preaching against homosexuality, it matters not what they say when their actions show the exact opposite.
All their poll shows is that either they can’t adequately poll the country, or that most people who identify/lean Republican are just a bunch of hypocrites.
Buzzkill.
Not untrue, however, the bigger picture is that there is an opportunity now for libertarians to succeed in federal politics. This has never happened before. What they do with this opportunity remains to be seen.
Do you really think people who, for the most part, use another party’s name and organization to run under, rather than call themselves what they are, will ever be viewed as honest, honorable people deserving of widespread support?
Sure. How else can you explain RINO’s?
The problem with the political system now is that the Democrats are not organized, not totally competent, but are basically honest. The Republicans are well organized, not competent, not honest and will do whatever it takes to win, particularly if it involves suppressing the vote. Just follow the money. GREED GREED GREED
Yeah I can I see Obama was just absolutely honest. Both major parties are corrupt and bad for America. Vote Libertarian.
MCCAIN ACCUSES OBAMA OF THINKING BEFORE USING FORCE
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) — Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) was harshly critical today of President Obama’s nationally televised address about Syria this week, telling CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, “The President’s decision to think before attacking another country flies in the face of American foreign policy.”
“The United States of America has been involved in countless armed conflicts since this great nation was founded,” Mr. McCain said. “Many of those would never have happened if we’d stopped to think about them first. Sadly, the President seems not to have learned this lesson of history.”
Calling the President “an Ivy League law professor who never met a thought he didn’t like,” Mr. McCain said that he was urging Mr. Obama “to please take thinking off the table.”
“The stakes for America couldn’t be higher right now,” he said. “Our global reputation for rushing into war with no advance planning is hanging by a thread.”
Mr. McCain said that he is attempting to schedule a meeting in the Oval Office, where he plans to deliver a “strong and clear” message to Mr. Obama: “Mr. President, what you are doing is playing into the hands of the enemy. Thinking solves nothing.”

Couldn’t have said it better my friend.
Whoa there big fellow. Fiscal conservative and socially moderate does not make you a libertarian. In fact I would be surprised in many people who call themselves Republican would admit to being a libertarian. The shame would be too much.
.
Though it’s heartening to see public opinion changing, the party leaders will fight to the death before they relinquish control. Look at all the dirty tricks they used on Ron Paul in the last election. Those evil bastards will do anything to keep their power.
Why should REPUBLICAN Party leaders relinquish control to people too gutless to run as the LIBERTARIANS they are ?!?!
Do you realize what it does to your limited credibility to refer to “FreedomWorks” as a grassroots organization?
libertarianism is the sulking teenager of political movements. “just leave me alone!” but feed me and clothe me and give me my own room, but them leave me alone! its a movement of silly old farts who were wrong about W, and now just want to blame somebody else, and sure as hell don’t want to pay the bill for their error.
